    Here are the latest technical updates at Wikia. Keep in mind that our system updates happen every Wednesday, so we're posting this on a Tuesday to give you advance notice. Also note that we change hundreds of tiny details every week, so these are just the highlights.


    • Highlighted threads will no longer display misaligned in the notifications dropdown.
    • New image galleries will now be compressed to a narrower layout when appearing alongside infoboxes and similar page content.
    • Facebook widgets, such as the Like button and Share button, will now display properly. No changes to existing widget code should be required.
    • An issue which could cause the notifications dropdown to get stuck on 'Loading notifications' will be fixed.

    • A third round of planned updates to the global navigation will be arriving - this week's update will include:
      • Notifications listed in a separate menu, with improved behaviour for high numbers of notifications

    Since the Forum feature was introduced, many communities have found that it's a great way to help fans connect with one another, make plans around editing projects or community events, and get questions answered. A common feature request, especially from very active communities, has been for a better way to moderate forum activity.

    We're pleased to announce that, with tomorrow's release, a new "moderator" user group will be available to all wikias. Along with this come some updates to what regular users can and can't do on Forum and Message Wall threads.

    These updates are relevant only to the Forum and Message Wall features. As with other user groups, admins can assign the moderator role to users if the community has the need for it. See below…

    This week's release will occur on Thursday, January 8.

    • An error that prevented avatars from being changed on some wikias will be fixed.
    • Table sorting will no longer stop working after the first sort attempt.
    • Opening dialogs will no longer cause the page content to shift upwards in the background.
    • Fixes for an issue that could sometimes prevent wall notifications from appearing for newer wikias will go live.
