This latest edition of our “Day in the Life” series will focus on what it’s like to be a remote staff member. Wikia has a couple of offices around the world and our main headquarters in San Francisco. What you may not have known though is that not all Wikia Staff members work in one of these offices. Most do, but there are a few of us—myself included—who work in various different parts of the world. I myself live in New Jersey, where I work from home.

On the Community Support team about half of our members also work remotely. In this blog you’ll hear from Sean, George, and Tim Q about what their days as a remote staff member are like.

Hi there. I’m Sean, and my role here is as Community Manager, Trust & Safety. Here is what my day is like:

    Greetings Wikians!

Welcome to another addition of our "A Day in the Life" series. Each month we focus on a day in the life of a Wikia staff member in order to give you a better understanding of what goes on in the Wikia office. Last month we followed a day in the life of a VSTF member. While they don't work out of the Wikia office, they're still a vital part of our Community.

Can you believe it's been a year since we've started this series? It's occurred to me that since we starting blogging about life at Wikia, the Wikia office has changed dramatically. We've doubled in size and have overhauled our space. With so much going on, we haven't had time to show off our new office! So I thought for this month it would be fun to give a general over…

Happy 2013 everyone! Our "A Day in the Life" segment continues this year as we look at a day in the life of some our awesome VSTF members! We thought we would change up our regular format a bit and breakdown an average day of a few of our users from one of our awesome volunteer teams. Take a look!

You may see users floating around Wikia with the tag VSTF on their profiles. The VSTF, or Volunteer Spam Task Force is a group of Wikia users who volunteer to help keep Wikia free of spam and vandalism. You may see them on your wiki if you ever encounter a serious issue of spam or vandalism. In order keep wikis clean, they have been given an additional user right which allows them to detect, delete and block spam. While they are not official Wikia…

    Greetings Wikians!

After a brief hiatus, our "A Day in the Life of Wikia" staff series has returned! Today I chatted with one of our Product Managers, Stanley Tran who leads our Mobile team.

A Product Manager is a member of our product team who works to create new features as well as improve existing ones. Product Managers work with every single team within Wikia to ensure that everything is running smoothly. We have 4 major product teams teams, each specializing in their own field. Here, we'll be focusing on Mobile.

The Mobile team focuses on expanding and optimizing the product line for the rapidly growing Mobile user base (both the mobile web and apps). The team also builds APIs to encourage third party developers to use Wikia content to b…

Here at Wikia we're all about community, which is why we have not one but two teams devoted to it! Previously in A Day in the Life, we covered the Community Support team and how they assist you with any questions that you may have about your wiki. Today I'm proud to introduce the Community Development team (or ComDev), who works hard in serving the community from a different angle.

The Community Development team is primarily based out of San Francisco. They work on taking requests to help improve wikis by creating content and assisting with engagement. This could be anything from helping set up a Twitter account to creating a walkthrough for the latest game. You may recognize one of the following members of the team who may have put up a sk…

Did you know that we have two major engineering teams here at Wikia? It’s true! We have one here in San Francisco and one in Poznan, Poland. In this installment of "A day in the life...", we are going to follow a day in the life of our engineering team in Poznan . There's about an 9 hour difference between the two offices, so at midnight on the West Coast when everyone is asleep, it's already 9am in Poland and the engineering staff there beings to shuffle in. As a result, we have more or less 24-hour coverage between the two offices.

The engineers help keep our site running by developing the latest features and improving upon old ones. They are constantly working to keep Wikia running and track down any bugs that may pop up.

    9am - A few folk…

    Greetings Wikians!

Have you ever wondered what goes on inside the Wikia office? If so, then you're in luck! Today marks the first part of our new series entitled "A Day in the Life" which will follow various staff members and teams at Wikia for an entire day. We'll introduce you to staff members, and tell you what they work on in a typical day. This month we begin with the Community Support Team.

The Community Support Team stretches not only across the country, but around the globe with team members located on both the east and west coast, and several countries (Germany, Poland, Spain and Australia, just to name a few). They directly support users via email, forums, chat, talk pages, webinars and blog posts. By collecting feedback and input …
