Admin Showcase: DC Admin Visit Interview

We recently had the fabulous pleasure of hosting two community superstars here in our San Francisco office: MrBlonde267, and Tupka217, both from our DC Database community!

During their visit, we spoke at length about what it's like to be a leader in such a large community, and we also had the opportunity to learn more about their own Wikia journeys -- how they got started themselves, and how their love of the DC universe led them to become superstar admins. They also shared some pointers about how new community members looking to get involved can dive in and help out (note: good advice for new members in the DC community or on any wikia).

Luckily for you, dear readers, we recorded our conversation, so I invite you jump in and learn from the …

Admin Showcase: Wildstar Admin Visit

Hello Wikians! It's hard to believe that it's already August and that summer will soon be winding down for us here in San Francisco. Everyone's getting ready to go back to school, but luckily for us, the summer fun is not over yet, as we recently had the good fortune of welcoming Wildstar admins Pinkachu and Kat ChaosReborn here in our office!

Getting to spend some time with Pinkachu and Kat ChaosReborn was such a treat, and as always, we learned a lot from the visit. Both Pinkachu and Kat are the some of the nicest admins you'll ever hope to meet, so if you're looking to get started in a new community or want to get more involved in the Wildstar community, then you should definitely reach out to them!

Check out the video we made of their re…

Khoor Zlnldqv, dqg kdssb Iulgdb wr brx doo!

Oh, what's that? You're not fluent in the Caesar cipher used in episodes 1 - 6 of Gravity Falls? I feel bad for you. Luckily, Wikia's Gravity Falls community admin YazzyDream can help! We recently had the good pleasure of hosting YazzyDream in our San Francisco offices as part of our Admin Visit program, and it's safe to say we're all Gravity Falls fans now. Yazzy is an artist, designer, music enthusiast, and now, we hope, a fan of our hometown of SF.

We learned so much talking to Yazzy about the Wikia community. Check out the video below of her visit and be sure to say hi to Yazzy if you see her around the community!

Admin Showcase: Zephyr135 from The Recipes Wikia

Happy Friday, everyone! The weekend is upon us, and if you're like me, you're probably looking forward to relaxing a little this weekend. For me, relaxing on the weekend always involves some sort of yummy food or a special meal (as a break from my usual diet of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at lunchtime during the week). As a wannbe foodie, I regularly lurk on the Recipes community  to find inspiration for my weekend cooking experiments -- so it was a very special treat to be able to host Zephyr135 from the Recipes community in our SF office!

Zephyr135 is a long time community member and also active in our Games communities (especially in The Last Remnant community). We always love getting perspectives from members who dabble in multip…

Admin Showcase: Jamie and Peteparker from The Marvel Database

Happy Monday, Wikians! Michael here, checking in with another edition of the Admin Showcase -- this time, featuring two very special admins from The Marvel Database , Jamie and Peteparker!

We recently had the good fortune of hosting Jamie and Nathan (who goes by Peteparker in the Wikia community) in our San Francisco office for a couple of days. In addition to learning a lot from these two community superheroes, I think it's safe to say we also now have two new best friends after getting to spend some time with them. It's clear that Jamie and Nathan love being a part of the Wikia family and that they believe in the power of community collaboration. Just take a look at their stats for evidence of that amazing collaboration in action: 122,000…

Admin Showcase: Tarna from Vintage Patterns

Happy Friday, everyone! Michael here, from Wikia's Community Development team. Hope you have all had a fantastic week so far -- we have had a wonderful week here on the Community Development team, mainly because we are still riding high on our recent in-person office visit from Vintage Patterns admin Tarna !

Tarna is a stellar contributor who has managed Vintage Patterns (along with Petit Main) since 2007, and has over 147,000 edits to her name. Wahoo! Not only is Tarna a super contributor and leader, but she's also really cool and fun. We all adored spending time with her in our San Francisco headquarters. See for yourself in the video!

Admin Showcase: Ajraddatz from Brickipedia

Hi there! Michael again here, checking in with another report from our Admin Showcase program!

This month, we had the distinct pleasure of hosting Brickipedia Admin Ajraddatz in our San Francisco office. Aj is a long time community member and prolific contributor on Wikia, and we had an absolutely fantastic time learning more about him and getting his feedback on the community experience while he was here in person with us. Aj had the opportunity to meet with our Community team, the Design team, our Product team, as well as many other folks who all lined up to meet him during his time here.

This was also AJ’s first time in San Francisco, so in addition to meeting with folks in the office, we also spent some time showing AJ around town. Be su…

Wikia's Admin Showcase

Hey everyone! Michael here, from Wikia’s Community Development team. My name may be new to many of you -- I just joined Wikia in May of this year, and I am still getting to know everyone in the community!

As Director of Community Development, one of my pet projects is Wikia’s Admin Showcase - a visiting admin program that allows us to invite community admins to Wikia HQ in San Francisco for meetings, feedback, and conversation about how we can be of service to you.

We have met some amazing community members so far through this program, and we have received fantastic product and community insights. Those insights, thoughts, and suggestions from visiting admins make their way into our development pipeline, and help us deliver improvements that…
