    Picking A Username

    November 20, 2017 by Ariolation

Hello everyone, I'm Ariolation, and today, I'll be explaining and talking about usernames. To start off with, we need to know what a username is. So what exactly is a username? A username is a name that uniquely identifies someone on a computer, service, internet or website, like FANDOM. With that being said, let's start off from the beginning.

Usernames uphold the current stat of a user and the value of a username is made by the amount of hardwork put into it. Unique usernames, are made out unique minds, unique thoughts. You could take it as, "one username could represent your entire life" sort of deal. It is reccomended when picking a username, that you keep it simple, unique and short. A good represantation of this is this username.

    Content Creation Tips

    November 19, 2017 by KCCreations

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I last wrote an advice blog, so I've decided to do another one. This time, I'd like to go over a topic I feel not many others have touched upon: content creation.

There are many help pages about starting a wiki here on Community Central...but, at the same time, there is no guaranteed way to create good pages and all. Given that no method of creation works perfectly for every topic, the aforementioned is not surprising, though it definitely can be frustrating.

I've been writing the pages of a lot of my own wikis for a few years now, and today I'd like to share some tips I've learned over time. While this isn't a guide to the writing itself, hopefully you can pick up on a few things from this.

    It can be tempt…

Wikia (now known as FANDOM) has recently made some decisions that have invoked negative responses from several users. Of course, I'm not taking sides in this but I personally do think I can get used to the changes, which I have for the most part. So why are the Staff making changes people don't seem to like? Wouldn't that hurt their number of users joining? Well, no and here's why.

Advertising is understandably disliked as it gets in the way of things from watching YouTube videos, visiting websites and even makes its way on illegal websites from what I've heard. However, believe it or not, advertising does something good for the website as well: Revenue. Let's think of how you create an account. You just type in a username, password and ema…

Hello wikians, this is RedBomb1 here with another blog on a wiki issue. In my first blog I discussed the negative nature of harassment and why one should never resort to it, and in this blog I will be discussing a similar issue that has been ongoing ever since knowledge databases like FANDOM and Wikipedia launched. Specifically, vandalism.

Vandalism is, to put it simply, blatantly bad-faith edits to pages. It may include the addition of juvenile, deceiving, repulsive, offensive, derogatory, off-topic, or overall inappropriate content, often replacing the accurate information and overriding users' productive contributions.

Good question. I too have always wondered why people would find it interesting to perform such juvenile acts. There could b…

    Starter wiki problems

November 16, 2017 by Lady Aleena

Hello. I was shown the new infobox categorization scheme on Starter and was horrified by what I saw. It makes me glad I am not creating a new wiki right now. I would not want to clean up the start wiki's mess right at the start.

The following categories are on WantedCategories on Starter.

    • Category:Templates/Infobox‏‎ (8 members)
    • Category:Quests‏‎ (2 members)
    • Category:Locations‏‎ (2 members)
    • Category:Items‏‎ (2 members)
    • Category:Events‏‎ (2 members)
    • Category:Episodes‏‎ (2 members)
    • Category:Characters‏‎ (2 members)
    • Category:Books‏‎ (2 members)
    • Category:Albums‏‎ (2 members)
    • Category:Templates/Quote‏‎ (1 member)
    • Category:Templates/Navbox‏‎ (1 member)
    • Category:Policy‏‎ (1 member)
    Questions
    1. Why are category sub-pages being used to categorize anything?
    2. Why are inf…

Hi, I'm that guy with an incredibly long username that many of you use copy and paste to type out. It has come to my attention that trolling is still a big issue and I have noticed some people responding to it incorrectly so I will tell you how to deal with trolls.

As a former troll (outside of Wikia), I know what trolls want: Your reaction. If you show them that you're angry, they have succeeded in their trolling as the point of it is to attack serious people to invoke a reaction because they have nothing better to do with their lives. A way to prevent them from winning is to ignore it completely, which seems hard in practice but it can be done when you think about how they are just doing stupid things for attention. Ignoring them could po…

    Abandoning your Wiki

    November 15, 2017 by ItsAsIf

I'm here to talk about abandoning a wiki. Sometimes you feel like you want to go to other wikis, and abandon a wiki, but you don't want anyone to adopt it. Here is how you balance your activity on FANDOM so you don't have to abandon your favorite wiki.

You could switch, or promote a user to admin to keep watch while you are gone. You don't have to edit and be on a wiki constantly unless you want to make it prosper.

Balance on wikis. I have had issues with this lately. Being afraid someone would adopt my wiki- but then I made someone admin and I trusted them. So whenever I was inactive on the wiki, the admin would help and did a lot I could not. Sometimes you just have to take a break from FANDOM. My big break lasted two days. I stayed at hom…

Hello everyone. Over the last two months of my most recent stint on Fandom, I have seen a lot of people asking for help ineffectively. So I decided to pass on a few tips I have learned over my decades of asking for help effectively all over the internet. These tips can be used anywhere help is offered.

    1. Don't ask to ask, just ask - In most places designed to offer help and assistance, it is fully expected that people will come in and ask questions. So you do not need to ask if you can ask a question. Just ask your question.
    2. Be patient for answers - In most cases, those who are able to help will know the answer right away. There are those cases where helpers will need to do a little bit of research to find you an answer. So after asking your ques…

Have you ever wanted to apply for/receive a certain user right on a certain wiki, but either didn't succeed or never knew whether or not you were qualified, and you want to increase your chances? Worry no more; in this blog I will be addressing all the advice on how to be promoted to the following positions: administrator, bueraucrat, chat moderator, discussion moderator, and rollback.

A rollback is a user who has the ability to revert the latest edit(s) on a page in one click: by simply pressing the button in the revision that reads "[rollback]". This is a quicker and more convenient means to revert vandalism or other counterproductive contributions and helps prevent them from disrupting the recent activity feed.

In order to become a rollback…

    FANDOM: How to Become Admin

    November 10, 2017 by ItsAsIf

Most people on wikis want to become an admin.

Admins jobs are not to brag about edits, or creating feuds and rivalries between normal users, and they do not wear a cape and run around screaming I will save you. To become admin, you must show your trust to a wiki.

To prove your worthy, you must choose the way of balance and elegance, stand out with your actions, your edits. Don't be asking everyday, saying you have more edits.

A warrior does not ask to win. A warrior must fight for what she or he wants. You must get ranked in the first page, stand out so admins can see you are winning a game- but being an admin isnt a game. It isn't what it seems at first, you know. You have to follow rules. Superheroes can't battle villains and set buildings …
