  • We’ve improved the 2017 source editor so it doesn't scroll as you add lines. The scrollbar will stay fixed at the bottom when you add content at the end of the editor. For the 2010 editor, the fix is in code review and should be released soon.  
  • We’re launching something special next week! This feature will be an opportunity for fans to enjoy their favorite fandoms. Stay tuned for updates!

Special Technical Updates: October 28, 2022

Happy Friday!

I know, I know - Technical Updates are supposed to be every other Friday, and we just did one a week ago, so what gives? Well, we decided to do one today because earlier this week, mobile theming became available to admins to begin opting in to. That means that they can now apply their wiki’s desktop theme to mobile. That’s a big deal! We promised we’d build mobile theming capabilities at Community Connect back in May, and we’re thrilled to make good on that and provide that option.

  • We received reports of the link suggest dropdown showing an empty link suggestions box when scrolling down the editor. That issue is now resolved and you can seamlessly scroll without a blank box being left behind after selecting a suggestion and when scrolling outside the editor.

  • The ability to partially block users - including blocking users just from posting on Discussions, which has been a long-term request - is live.
  • Cases of newly created wikis were throwing 503 errors and loading blank pages. That issue has been resolved.
  • Although not a bug, the current 20 character limit for Discussions categories is too low to support all naming use cases, particularly on international Discussions. Admins can now set Disc…

Technical Update: October 18, 2017

Here are the latest technical updates on FANDOM. Keep in mind that our system updates happen every Tuesday and Thursday - today's notes are for tomorrow's site update. Also note that we change hundreds of tiny details every week, so these are just the highlights.


As we announced on our Monday Technical Update post, FANDOM is shifting to a four-times-a-week release strategy. This change will begin next Monday, October 23rd. Releases will now occur on: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. FANDOM does not schedule code releases on Friday to prevent any bugged releases that might affect the site over the weekend.

Technical Update: October 16, 2017

Here are the latest technical updates on FANDOM. Keep in mind that our system updates happen every Tuesday and Thursday - today's notes are for tomorrow's site update. Also note that we change hundreds of tiny details every week, so these are just the highlights.


First, we'd like to announce that code releases on FANDOM will now regularly occur four times a week. This change will begin next Monday, October 23rd. This is a direct result of our experiment back in August. Internally, the experiment found we had the capacity to release code additional times per week without impacting the QA process or causing additional bugs.
