Community Partnerships April Update: Intro to Entertainment Partnerships

We’ve talked a lot about our Community Partnerships team on the Staff Blog lately – from our March update about gaming wiki partnerships, to welcoming new team members, to our full overview of the Community team structure. So we thought we’d keep that conversation going with some more exciting news to share about how we’re expanding the scope of wiki partner initiatives over the coming months.

In our gaming wiki partnerships update last month, we highlighted the excellent work the Community Gaming team has been doing to connect wiki communities with the publishers and developers who make the games their wikis are covering. These efforts are a continuation of the partnership focus first developed by Gamepedia, which the Gamepedia team brough…

How Fandom's Community team works in 2024

Throughout my career at Fandom, I’ve been privileged to work with a lot of passionate Community Managers and other community professionals. These are people who truly care about and want to support the community here at Fandom, a community that’s pretty special. There’s many different kinds of communities online – some are professional networks, some are SaaS (Software as a Service) customer communities, some are brand ecosystems, some are forums or chat rooms, and more. But here at Fandom, we have the awesome opportunity to work directly with people like all of you who are often experts in games, shows, movies, and more, and who in turn are also dedicated to building and nurturing communities based around shared interests.

One of my jobs, …

Hello hello! The last Technical Update was published 2 weeks ago so it means it’s time for a new one. As always, we remind you this is just a snapshot of the work done during the last weeks. We don’t include all the minor fixes and tweaks because it would convert this blog post into something longer than the list of characters appearing in Disney sagas –12,778–

  • 1 Recent Fixes
  • 2 Fixes in Development
  • 3 Development Updates
    • 3.1 User-Generated Content (UGC) team
    • 3.2 UX Team
    • 3.3 Traffic team
    • 3.4 Platform team

  • Long usernames that don't line break caused some design issues:
    • They pushed the "edit profile" and “post to wall” buttons to overlap the right rail at some page widths
    • In the list of notifications, the name overflowed to the right, making the whole space sc…

Fandom Celebrates Trans Day of Visibility: Part Two of Two

Hello again everybody! This blog post is the second out of two for this year’s TDOV! I highly recommend checking out the first one, if you haven’t already!

A little paraphrase from yesterday: International Trans Day of Visibility, or TDOV for short, lands on March 31st. For trans lives are precious and it is more crucial than ever during the times that we live to recognize the impact of trans achievements, contributions and resilience. Not only that, but our joy and love ought to be shared and celebrated.

In continuation of our celebration of Trans Day of Visibility, more trans folk from our communities and staff have volunteered to share their stories!

  • 1 Meet Cori, aka Hewwowouwu
  • 2 Meet Mia, aka MIAWSTIC
  • 3 Meet Minerva, aka Tagaziel
  • 4 Meet Gabby
  • 5 Me…

Fandom Celebrates Trans Day of Visibility: Part One of Two

Howdy everyone! I’m Kurt! Kicking off my first ever blog post as a community manager with a project fellow LGBTQ+ staff and community members collaborated together for Trans Day of Visibility! Trans Day of Visibility or TDOV for short, is recognized internationally as landing on March 31st. It is a day of celebration for trans achievements, contributions and resilience that also aims to foster an environment of inclusivity, respect, and support by highlighting the importance of recognizing and affirming the gender identity of transgender people.

We live in a time where many trans lives are at stake, but we are not merely targets of discrimination and hate. We are family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and most importantly– people. We are mu…

Welcoming Fandom's newest Community Managers

Last week, we shared the bittersweet news that we are ending the part-time, contract-based Wiki Representative program and shifting to a full-time staffing model for Community team members who directly support our communities.

As promised in last week’s commitments, today’s blog introduces you to the four Wiki Representatives who are officially joining Fandom Staff as Community Managers on April 1st (no joke)! We also have a few updates about former Wiki Representatives who are remaining with Fandom on a contract-basis, but taking on new or different positions now that the Wiki Representative program is coming to an end.

We are really excited to be able to welcome these new Community Managers and, although we know the news about the Wiki Rep…

    • 2.2 UX Team
    • 2.3 Traffic team

Hi everyone, I have some difficult but important news to share with you today. Over the next several weeks, we will be winding down and ending the Wiki Representative program as we head in a new direction with how we support the Fandom community—which includes bringing on a number of new, full time Community Managers to Fandom staff, sourced directly from the Wiki Rep program.

As of today, a number of Wiki Representatives have been impacted by this change. This blog will be the first in a series of updates over the next several weeks that goes…
