Why having everything on a Discussions-based format is a bad idea and Threads should stay

Greetings, Fandom users. I will now share to you why having everything Discussions-based is a bad idea. Here, I will present all evidence necessary to prove why Threads should stay. Please note that this is meant to be informative.

  • 1 Overview
  • 2 Posting
    • 2.1 Editing
  • 3 Deleting/Locking
  • 4 Linking
  • 5 Migration
    • 5.1 "View older replies"
  • 6 Conclusion

Now, here is what Discussions looks like firsthand.

Ignore this, I put it here by accident and can't remove it.

It's obviously a separate realm from the rest of a wiki. It is clearly not advisable for import on small wikis in general. On some wikis, they coexist with the simpler more practical Forums. They clearly have different places on a community.

Here is what posting looks like.

As you can see, t…

How-To on Wikis - Introduction

Hi!

So welcome to my blog series, called How-To on Wikis. In this series, I will be giving you some advices about editing the wikis.

I've originally start by editing Wikipedia in 2017 as anonymous. In February 2018,I've registered there and started editing there. Also, I was editing Gamepedia. Later in 2019,I've decited to start also on Fandom. Since 2017, I've received many experience of edits, communication and admin tools. But, it is obvious, that many peoples did not have these XPs and are learning from their mistakes. And this is why I created this blog series.

I will release these blogs frequently (at least 1 per week). How long? Well, till I will want to do these blogs.

So,what I will made? Well, I know I will be making about these thing

Public Service Announcment Regarding The UCP.

Your attention, please. I would like to state that the UCP should be prevented due to creating changes, that will make Fandom less Fandom. It will destroy threads, and convert the entire design to some  overly-digital broken-down-phone style clanky format which would reduce the quality of what makes Fandom Fandom.  In this blog, I would like to state why the UCP should be cancelled and I would like @Mister Woodhouse to respond to me in the comments.

  • 1 Whose idea was this ?
  • 2 Why should the old format stay ?
  • 3 Gamepedia matters
  • 4 Mediawiki
  • 5 Wish you luck !
  • 6 Afterword

I am informed that the core purposes of the UCP have been considered necessary long before, but the project in general is lead by Mister Woodhouse. Well, who put him in charge ? He has ba…

Why Discord is good for Fandom communities.

Discord has been used for many communities across Fandom as an alternative to the chat feature. Because of this, it is useful to have, if your community has a need for it. Using it has many benefits, which will be listed below.

I’m sure you’re going to ask, which is better?, and the answer to that depends on your personal preferences and interests. Fandom's chat feature is good for users who want a more localized chat platform. However, utilizing Discord can do a better job in connecting a particular community of fans with each other

Unlike Chat, Discord can be much more organized and clean, with the interface used being divided into channels and categories that can be used for different purposes (bot commands, off- and on-topic discussion, …

Is there a Limit?

Hello and greetings fandom users.

So I have been thinking about community contribution across Fandom and I'm yet to show my true colors regarding that, mainly because I'm yet to find the right community for me. I've browsed through many users on Community Central to see what other wikis there are as a way to broaden my horizen on the various fandoms that inhabit this entire part of the internet. I've contributed to Wakfu wiki, Villains wiki, Gravity Falls wiki, and even CC. But none of these ever really clicked with me. Even so, while I've seen a variety of communities and fandoms across the vast sea of wikia, I feel the need to ask,

Is there a limit to what can be made into a wiki here?

In other words, does the community have to strictly be …

Gamepedia Account ft. Twitch

I would like to request help with something. I have tried to create a Gamepedia account, which obviously requires a Twitch account, for many days now; but every time I try to create one it says that I'm underage. I'm not. I was born 28th of November 1990, 29. Could someone tell me why this is happening. It would be much appreciated. Have a nice day!

Wordmark Help!

Hello! I've been slowly building my own wiki, (find it here) and i've recently had some issues and quetions about wordmarks. Wikis I often go on, such as Jurassic Park wiki have nice wordmarks, however when i try and resize and enter my new design, it is either too big, small, or the wrong file type. My main setback right now is that my logo is WAY too small and compressed. Does anyone here have any ideas, advice or ANYTHING really so i can make my logo bigger or design a new one. My wiki is about extinct life, it is called Prehistoric wiki.

Most Common Reasons Why Your Wiki Gets Closed

I noticed more and more people are complaining that their wikis got closed for some reason here, so I'm just going to give the most common reasons your wiki might get closed.

  • 1 1. It's Inappropriate
  • 2 2. It's Inactive and Contains Very Few Pages and Edits
  • 3 3. It's Literally Copying Content From Another Wiki
  • 4 4. It's a Harassment Wiki

If your wiki is only just spam or contains extremely obscene, hateful and sexual topics with pictures, don't expect it to last long. You will also get globally blocked for it too.

If you and your community are inactive on your wiki, and made very few edits and pages there, expect the wiki to be closed. However, if a wiki has an inactive community, but has a lot of edits and pages, it'll most likely not be closed by F…
