Wikia Contests & Giveaways
With the recent popularity of our Valentine's Day poetry blog, we've decided to launch a Wiki Poetry Contest!
That's right, it's time for you to flex your creative muscles and craft some beautiful wiki-themed poetry. We'll be reading our favorites as well as announcing the winners LIVE at a very special Google Hangout on April 1st. (No foolin'!)
Here are a few poems to get you in the spirit. If you can can recall, here's my painfuly bad poem from earlier:
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
If you edit my wiki,
I'll edit yours too!
Any kind of poem is fair game. Haikus were extremely popular last time, so feel free to submit as many as you want. Remember, a haiku is traditionally written in a pattern of 5-7-5 syllables. Here is one o…

My name is Annette, and I'm the new Programming Manager for Wikia Lifestyle . I'd like to take a minute here to introduce myself, and talk a little about some of the new and exciting plans we have in store for Lifestyle!
As an avid reader of gaming and entertainment wikis here for years, I know the level of passion that's driven by Wikians' love for the games they play, the shows they watch, the comics and books they read, and more. Pop culture fuels a need for people to initially connect, and then that connection creates some of the most supportive and amazing communities you'll find anywhere.
While pop culture certainly gets people excited, so do other topics like food and drinks, craft and sewing, sports, toys, fashion and be…Read more >
Welcome to Middle-earth! Or at least Wikia’s online equivalent to it. Audiences the world over are gearing up for a big screen return to that lush and dangerous fantasy land envisioned so brilliantly by Peter Jackson with December’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
And while the first film in the planned trilogy may seem quite a ways off, we all know that fandom never sleeps. So to kick-off our “Countdown to The Hobbit,” we’d like to honor the brilliance that is J.R.R. Tolkien (he is, after all, the architect of Middle-earth) by celebrating Hobbit Day.
As noted on the Shire Calendar, September 22nd is the birthday of both Bilbo and Frodo Baggins – two of the most famous adventurers in all of the realm. Fans everywhere celebrate the occasion…Read more >
Wikia Games Nerd-in-Chief Lizzunchbox (aka George Jones) here again. You may remember me from such edge-of-your-seat posts such as Greetings from Wikia Games and, well, um, that’s it. Hey, I’m the new guy.
This month, I want to write about something we have planned that we’re all really excited about. A few months ago, managing editor Peter Klambach and myself were talking about the Olympics, and what we could do across Wikia Games to celebrate the occasion. In a split second, we both had the answer. We’d stage a Summer Olympics of our own, and enlist the entire Wikia Games community to help!
So, this Summer 2012, we’re happy to announce our first ever Video Game Olympics. Have you ever wondered which gaming character would win a 100 Meter s…Read more >
The train is leaving Platform Nine and Three-Quarters! It's time to return to Hogwarts -- time to take flight on broomsticks and relive the magic of Harry Potter with Wikia. Wikia Entertainment is partnering with the Harry Potter Wiki to launch our new Wikia Book Club. Why a book club? Because even if you've read the books, watched the movies, bought the merchandise - nothing compares to talking, sharing and remembering the great characters and story lines with other knowledgeable Wikians.
The first book we'll be reading is "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone). The admins of the Harry Potter Wiki are thrilled to share their passion with us and the other Wikia Book Club participants. Our hope is …Read more >
Hello, fellow movie lovers! I'm Eric Moro, the Entertainment Category Manager here at Wikia. This is one of my favorite times of year - the Oscars! From the performances to the camerawork to the visual effects (and everything in-between), the yearly Oscars telecast is a time for Tinseltown to honor its own.
And considering that Wikia has one of the most ravenous communities online when it comes to all things entertainment, we thought we’d do something special. So join us, will you, as we walk the "Road to the Red Carpet" – an exclusive tour through Wikia’s various film communities as they relate to the 84th Academy Awards . Over the course of the next 11 days, our movie experts will share their vast knowledge in such fun and quirky areas as…Read more >
Did you know that Adele has a dachshund she named Louie after he started howling to a Louie Armstrong song? Or that it’s rumored Lady Gaga will be performing both the opening and closing songs at the 54th Grammys? Or that Alexandre Desplat is up for a Grammy for his Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 score?
Pretty cool stuff, right? We definitely think so, and it’s all information that Wikia’s music communities have been busy chronicling. So to make sure YOU know all about the amazing efforts of our rapidly growing music wikis, we’re hosting a Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night.
Starting this Wednesday, February 1st on the Music Wiki, we’re counting down the 12 remaining days to the Grammys in many ways. Each day we'll be bringing y…Read more >

As many of you Wikians already know, the final movie in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, will be released to the masses in less than a week. This marks the end of an era; whether you’re a Harry Potter fanatic or not, there’s no question about it: Harry Potter is a pop culture phenomenon.
To celebrate, the Harry Potter Wiki is going nuts over this final milestone. Here’s a round-up of what’s happening:
