I started using Wikia sometime in 2012. Aside from the ads, it was great. It was like a version of Wikipedia where you could make a wiki centered around one particular topic. You could customize a great deal of features in CSS (which I didn't start using until sometime in 2014) and overall it was a good way to practice my writing, among other things.
But then, sometime in late 2014, things started to change... for the worse. I guess you could say it all started with that hideous new header they added earlier this year, but I've noticed that Wikia has been way more in-your-face about making sure people know Wikia Inc. are the ones responsible for EVERYTHING people see and read on Wikia. For example, in 2012, Wikia article tabs were like this: Example Page - Whatever Wiki. But now, they're like this: Example Page - Whatever Wiki - Wikia. Wikia has to make sure they're name is at the end of the tab title.
On a less serious note, other minor things that have changed are the size of the standard article font. I guess Wikia is trying to appeal to people with poor eyesight or those who are half illiterate. Thankfully this can still be changed via CSS. Also, you can't change the color of the hideous new header. It has to be stuck a dark earth blue and the annoyingly colorful tabs have to be huge and in-your-face. Is it just me or is Wikia obsessed with Doctor Who? Earth blue seems to be a theme color in Doctor Who, which is a series that I have an extreme dislike for and don't understand. DW has been around forever and now all of the sudden it's popular again. Shows like Twilight Zone have been around just as long and three quarters of the world have forgotten what it is.
To conclude, is there anyone else who dislikes some of these changes Wikia has made in the past few years? I don't want to turn this into a hate discussion. Some of these changes could detract from user attention, like the new header. I want to hear some critical thinking about these changes so we can make sure Wikia staff know what they're doing may not be the best way to improve their business. Quotes like "maybe progress should lose for a change" and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" may help in the thinking process.
