Although you quoted Iynque, I'm going to assume you were requesting alternate suggestions from everyone.
of course

Idea 1: Use normal links instead of imagemap links.
- You're already overlaying a div on top unsuccessfully because they're over the imagemap, so it would make more sense for the link itself to be in the overlay.
I've tried this too but couldn't make it work either. I've put text link in the div and attribute "visibility:hidden" it hid the linking function too, did the same but instead of using visibility attribute i used transparency:0.0 same result, link not working

Idea 2: Don't use an imagemap. Instead, design an infobox to look like the image.
- Images and Imagemaps have their place, but images which contain text are pointless. Text should be text.
- (This is what I would do, and what most wikis do. When I first clicked your link to your example, before reading your post, I originally thought you were asking for someone to design an infobox resembling the image.)
This is what i'll do if a solution won't be found, thanks :)

Idea 3: If you insist on using an imagemap, simply edit the image with the desired highlight.
- (I don't recommend this, but it's still a solution to your specific problem.)
this came to my mind but i was trying to avoid it because maybe now there a few images but with time they'll become more and more
