The Ginpe[1] (ギンペー[2] Ginpē?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, penguin-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance[]

Ginpe

Ginpes are penguin-like Badniks that possess egg-shaped blue bodies with white bellies, yellow and rounded feet with gray screws underneath their heels, a short pointy tail, stubby and pointy wings, short and soft yellow beaks, and cartoonish black eyes with large pupils. They also wear large and metallic black top hats with a red band each.

Overview[]

The Ginpes make their only appearance in Sonic Advance 3, where they appear exclusively in Twinkle Snow. In gameplay, they move back and forth on the snowy ground, periodically shooting an energy ball out of their top hats in an arc behind them that can damage the player. The best way to destroy a Ginpe is with either a Spin Attack or a Spin Dash. Upon their destruction, a Ginpe will release a Ring

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing, a group of Ginpes were gathered at Tails' Workshop for an experiment by Sonic, Tails and Belle. There, Belle would transfer Motobud's nonaggression subroutine over to the Ginpes using the Miles Electric. When Tails then unveiled Sonic in front of the Ginpes, these Badniks would mind their own business in pleasant ways, making the trio's experiment a success. Later at night, however, the Ginpes received a beacon signal that compelled them to head to Eggperial City.[3]
