Wikicities is not:
- purely a hosting company
- Only wikis that are likely to be successful and will appeal to a wide range of editors will be created. Requests are not accepted for personal wikis or wikis for small groups. See Wikicity creation policy for details, and Wikibooks for alternatives.
- a place to advertise another website
- Wikicities is to be used for community editing, not just to put up links to another website. Non-official advertising is not permitted. See advertising.
- a Wikimedia project
- Although Wikicities was founded by two of the directors of the Wikimedia Foundation, it is not a Wikimedia project. Wikicities is owned by Wikia.
- a link farm
- Wikis on Wikicities should contain actual content, not just be a link repository pointing to other sites.
