    Calm Over Conflict

    January 17, 2018 by Sannse

I've been thinking a lot about conflict on wikis recently. There's a wiki I've been watching (I won't name it) where it seems everyone is fighting with everyone else. There are groups on one side or the other of the argument, and no one is managing to calm things down. Obviously this is affecting the productivity of the community, as well as driving away those who can't stand the bickering. As I tried to think of ways to help them resolve their differences, I found a blog I wrote in 2011 that …

In 2017 we redesigned the page and article headers at the top of every wiki page as part of a more modern design experience on FANDOM wikis. We couldn't be happier with the way it turned out, but we knew there were a few extra steps we could take to make it even more impactful for logged-in users.

Today we have introduced new shortcuts to the page header that will appear for all logged-in users. These shortcuts include Add New Image, Add New Video, Recent Changes, and All Shortcuts. The All Shor…

Where to start as a Newbie

December 19, 2017 by Mira Laime

So you've found your way onto FANDOM - congrats! You're in for fun discoveries, achievements you'll be proud of, and perhaps even new friends.

But where to start? What do you do first to make sure you get the most out of your time here? We've put together some basic tips.

Most wikis allow you to edit articles and post comments without logging in, but having a FANDOM account brings you a number of benefits. As a logged-in user, you can receive notifications about article changes, messages and rep…

    Creating Your Wiki’s Design

    December 12, 2017 by JoePlay

In my previous blog post, I described the process of requesting assistance from FANDOM staff to help with your wiki’s appearance. This time, I want to talk about customizing your wiki’s theme yourself.

I’ll start with the question: What exactly is the theme, and why would you want to customize it yourself? Simply put, your wiki’s theme is its overall appearance, from the background image and wordmark to smaller things like the color of buttons and text links. One main reason to do it yourself is …

    New on-site notifications

    March 27, 2017 by BertH

Tomorrow you'll see an addition to the Fandom navigation bar at the top of the site. We are very excited to share that a new area for notifications will be added, anchored to the "bell" icon. These new on-site notifications are the future of notifications on Fandom. They are part of a central notification service which is the foundation for a unified hub giving you access to all of the activity you care the most about. Our vision is to create a simple and easy-to-use notification system that wi…

For the last several years, we've worked to broaden the ways that fans can participate on Wikia. At the core of that experience is and continues to be wiki editing - creating and expanding deep fan knowledge resources. We also knew that there was more to the fan experience than editing, which meant there was lots of untapped potential on the site. For example, we saw that fans want to share their thoughts about what they love, leading to the launch of our Fandom editorial hub earlier this year. …

    Hello Wikia!

We have an exciting new feature to introduce today: the Community Page, which can be found at Special:Community across the top 5000 communities on Wikia!

]] It's just what it sounds like - a place where any readers and editors can find out more information about your community! This feature is accessible and open to anyone on your community (logged-in or logged-out).

As a new visitor to a community, you might wonder:

    • who are the people in this community?
    • who is creating the pages?
    • who mana…

Greetings Wikians! I’m very excited to announce a new feature today - Curated Main Pages on mobile devices.

For most communities the main page is its single most viewed page. Four out of the top five pages on Wikia are main pages, in fact, and that makes sense — a search for “Star Wars wiki” is very likely to return the main page as the first result.

Main pages on desktop are typically a large collection of content, galleries, templates, and design elements, representing each community very well.…

Recently on the South Park Archives wiki, I conducted a survey using Survey Monkey for editors and readers to take. Doing this brought fourth a lot of interesting data that the wiki administration could use to help better the experience for the community.

I asked simple questions at the start, and then allowed people to input their comments. Questions like "Is the wiki up to date with content", "Do you approve of the current administration" and the question that revealed the most information "Wh…

    Hey there, everyone!

I'm Wither, and I would like to describe and promote my new wiki here. It's not really "new" per se as it's a couple months old, but it's still very empty.

The wiki can be found right here, at this sweet little link. For the info:

A lot. Its focus is anything, but then really, anything, based off an existing video game, or a series thereof. Think of animations (movies, series, shorts, anime) and literary products (comics, manga, novels, picture books), or merchandise. And here…

Hey there! This is my second blogpost, and it's a promotion for my first Wikia - Warriors Novel Series Wiki. I've been working day after day to enhance the look of this Wikia, and I think it's time to share it to the public. We currently have 13 articles, yet all but 1 is a work in progress. However, YOU can help! With a simple typo, you can become a part of our community.

Warriors is a novel series published by Erin Hunter and HarperCollins. It is a series featuring the main character, Rusty, a…

Hello, i am NinjaoftheREDclan, and i would like to show a wiki i been working on for the past few days, called Cityipedia , the wiki for the listing of cities and towns around the world, but first.

    1. Although Wikipedia lists some cities, this is the FANDOM version of city listing, and dedicated to cities as well.
    2. Currently small, but currently has 20+ pages and growing!
    3. Due to how new it is, it currently has no staff yet besides myself.
    4. The wiki is updated daily as well, especially the main page.

    It i…
