Page distortionsEdit

Some people are seeing page distortions caused by caching issues. These usually clear with a forced refresh (ctrl and F5 on most systems). Jason is woking on making this happen automatically for all users -- sannse (talk) 01:59, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

MediaWiki namespaceEdit

Replacing the words "Wikicities" and "Wikicity" with "Wikia"Edit

  • Special:Allmessages - Done
  • Fixing links like Special:Whatlinkshere/Wikia - Done

  • Angela will run a script on the server to find remaining occurences of "Wikicities" in a few days once most pages have been changed - still in progress (being run by sannse)
  • Use Special:Search to find "Wikicities"
  • Scripts such as "create new wiki" need to be fixed
  • Wikipedia:Wikicities and related templates will need updating (wait until their interwiki map updates before fixing the templates)

  • Stats: still stuck in December. Still calls people "wikicitizens".

wikia-inc.comEdit

wikia-inc.com gives a 403 forbidden error. Probably needs a lot of edits to reflect the new name. - Done

Logos and the interfaceEdit

Image:Wiki.png needs properly compressing. Is it appearing in all the right places? The search logo needs to be fixed or (preferably) disappeared. Wikicities doesn't need to appear in the footer.

I redid the logo because the blockiness due to multiple recompressions made it look bad and the text seemed to be in the wrong place, cluttering the image. The Paint Shop Pro file used to create the compressed version is here. http://education.wikia.com/ still has the sunflower logo. Angela (talk) 15:52, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Bugs with GFDL image and Wikia: namespace Edit

The GNU Free Documentation License button isn't working. I get http://furry.wikia.com/skins2/common/images/gnu-fdl.png in our site interface, which is 403 Forbidden. [[Wikia: is also broken, generating URLs like http://community.wikia.com/wiki/Index.php/Wikicities_relaunches_as_Wikia. --GreenReaper(talk) 06:04, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Also a problem with Wikia:wikia: links. Compare [1] and [2].

Interwiki links from other wikis to Wikia Edit

The obsolete prefix "c:" has to be removed within the MediaWiki configuration.

Bugzilla (404) Edit

http://wikia.com/bugzilla/ is not reachable (404) any more! Furthermore the interwiki link prefix "bugzilla:1" does not work. (only bug:1 is blue; enough?) ---Melancholie 09:07, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

bug:1 points to the old address, which is 404. Some other interwiki links (such as desencyclopedie: ) also have the old wikicities.com addressing, but bug:291 as an interwiki link is more severely broken as it doesn't work at all. --carlb 22:58, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

As stated, I believe that it was the confusion related to the wikiCities name - people thought that it was a wiki about world cities. Wikia is more ambiguous and probably more appropiate. Noticed a couple of broken stylesheets, but force refresh is a nogo. - 193.63.170.20 13:30, 27 March 2006 (UTC) (wikipedia:User:Estel)
One major reason was the people thought Wikicities were wikis about cities, so the name was very good at conveying what we really are - which is wiki communities on any topic. Another issue was that people kept using the word "Wikicity" when we don't the Wikicity domain names. Wikia also sounds better and is a shorter domain name, and every other site is called "wiki...something", so the name Wikia hopefully shows we're not just another wiki host, but something different.   • On the main Wikia page, the logo in the upperleft has changed from "Wikicities" to "Wikia" but the default logo on individual Wikia (such as ff.wikia.com or automation.wikia.com) still says "Wikicities"
  • Similarly the logo above the search box on individual Wikia such as ff.wikia.com still says Wikicities
  • And at the very bottom left of the page there is the "Hosted by Wikicities" logo which we should replace with a Hosted by Wikia logo. (Done)
  • On the new Wikia that I started to create (automation.wikia.com), most of the work I did on it yesterday around 6pm NY time has been obliterated. Is this related to the precise timing of the changeover (in which case is it possible that others' work on various Wikia was lost as well)?

Uncyc interlanguage and interwiki links Edit

Most all of the interlanguage links (such as uncyclopedia:fr:) and interwiki links (w:c:whatever...) still point to the old wikicities.com URL's (and zh: is not in the uncyc interlanguage map at all). Hover over the "in other languages" box or the language template on uncyclopedia:Main Page and plenty of wikicities.com links are visible. --carlb 04:54, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

User deletion? Edit

I've just had a user on the L5R Wiki tell me that he can't log in anymore. Sure enough, User:Glacialis doesn't appear to be an account at all. It's the only user that's said anything about it to me, but I thought I'd mention it. ~WestonWyse ! 01:27, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Multilingual portalsEdit

Various multilingual portals are missing.

http://linux.wikia.com/ and http://phpbb.wikia.com are pointing to notreal

Shared messagesEdit

MediaWiki:Shared-problemreport-url is a shared MediaWiki message for all Wikia. "Wikia Home" links to wikicities too.

SearchingEdit

Is it the move or the search function that's at fault giving me messages like this on fisherymanagement:
