If you go on a non-existant wiki (e.g. flafahruhrf.wikia.com) you get a message that "The wiki that you tried to visit doesn't exist yet." and the choice to either create it or search for it. However, the search bar only searches Community Central, so you're not going to find any other wikis using that. At worst, this could lead people to think that a wiki doesn't exist even if it does, and cause duplication which would worsen both wikis. At best, it just makes it harder for people to find the wiki they wanted. Manga (talkcontribs) 12:59, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

This is obviously an oversight. They recently changed the Community Central search to search only Community Central, not all of Wikia like it did before. Someone in the Staff will probably notice this or the search thing, and send it into the Tech Team to be fixed. It could also be reported on the next technical update blog, or send a message using Special:Contact.  DaRanger | Talk to Me | What I've Done | 13:41,8/16/2011

@DaRanger: It's been like this for a while now, over a month at least. Manga (talkcontribs) 16:54, August 16, 2011 (UTC)
The page uses {{int:Not a valid Wikia}} so that means it's on messaging, but the copy on messaging is something completely different so idk what controls it now. User? 17:19, August 16, 2011 (UTC)
In this case the message is stored locally, here. At first the plan was to use messaging, but it turned out that the message would end up broken for all languages that didn't have the message in their language (so instead of the English version <Not a valid Wikia> would show up. Is there a way to do an all Wikia search somewhere still or is it just gone? -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 16 Aug 2011 12:21 PM Pacific
No, you used to be able to at homepage:Special:Search, but homepage was recently changed to a Google search.  Monchoman45  Talk  Contribs  Skystone  19:25,8/16/2011
That seems to be the right link. It doesn't go to Google search for me. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 16 Aug 2011 7:32 PM Pacific
Ah - the sidebar searches Google, Special:Search still searches Wikia.  Monchoman45  Talk  Contribs  Skystone  02:37,8/17/2011

(reset indent) Actually, I think there is a Search All Wikia non-Google search, but I don't think it works on other languages. See here. Manga (talkcontribs) 11:31, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

Nvm, I think I misread. Manga (talkcontribs) 11:34, August 17, 2011 (UTC)
Adding back Staff needed. Question about a non-Google Search All was never answered by staff. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 6 Dec 2011 7:31 PM Pacific

The current search for a wiki is horrible. If you wanted a wiki, it would never show up, since it only searches "community". One would think this would result in lots of duplicate wikis being created, maintained by one person, and dying on the vine, since everyone is working on their own wiki, no one with enough content to be interesting, and duplicating all the main topics, getting bummed, and quitting. Instead all those people could be working on one or just a few wikis together, and making alot more content, without the frustration of no users. 70.24.248.23 05:22, December 7, 2011 (UTC)

No bones about it - the searching function on Community Central is very poor. We've known this for a long time and we're very much hoping to work on a more robust search engine early in the new year. We're sorry it's not better right now; wish I or our team could help, but simply put this is a very complex thing to run a search query on. I am not aware of a search all Google Search hosted on Wikia, though you could certainly use one of Google's site: magic words to help find wikis on Wikia. --daNASCAT WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 02:06, December 14, 2011 (UTC)
