A persistent vandal has appeared on several Wikia, including the Central Wikia. He always targets the same page, removing the same content after each revert, and giving "Unknown" as the edit summary. Each edit comes from a different IP and at least two of them are on public lists of open proxies.

Here are the sightings I have so far:

On the Central Wikia, targeting Forum:Wikia Spotlight:
- 84.52.71.183 (on this list of open proxies -- best turn off Javascript before going there, it has some aggressive popup ads)
- 72.138.86.91
- 71.85.8.151 (on this list of open proxies)
- 211.31.56.56

On nethack.wikia.com, targeting Wikihack:Style guide (which is now semiprotected for a few days):

On gameinfo.wikia.com, targeting Guide:Looney Tunes B-Ball:

Mmmm i had the same issue but he attack Alchemy Encyclopaedia : Part G : Guild Collectors until i decide to semiprotect it for 1 week here are the IP's

The target at doom.wikia.com is How to download and run Doom. The sysop who semiprotected it says the perpetrator "appears to be a broken spambot". Here are the IPs:

Blocking the IPs might be justified on open-proxy grounds, but the vandal seems to have a good long list of them. Protecting the page might be more effective.--Ray Chason 18:01, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Just be sure to only semi-protect. Since the vandalism is only occurring anonymously, semi-protection will continue to let logged-in users edit while blocking the vandals. Another recent feature that I like, is that we can indicate how long we want the protection to last. I'm guessing this should blow over within the next 30 days. --Kirk 18:22, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
