Are there any plans to add a chat feature to Wikia? I feel it would be nice to have one chatroom for each Wikia wiki, accessible through the sidebar. Ideally, it would be integrated with MediaWiki so logged-in users would automatically show up with their Wikia username as their nick. --Spankart 13:11, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

We've already got a number of communication tools. Talkpages, Usertalkpages (Which automaticly notify the user when edited no matter what wikia they are on.), the Forums (Which can be installed on any wikia), and IRC which is also accesable through the web-baised chat. Any wikia can start up their own room on irc.freenode.net and then submit that chanel to the wikia staff and they'll add it to what the web baised chat can access. They did that for the chanel I created for The Gaiapedia. But what I would like would be a little auto-notify feature. I mean, you get a nice message box telling you you have messages when your talk page is edited. But if you're holding a chat on another user's talk page, or an article talk page, or even a Forum page. You half to keep an eye on it (The watchlist dosen't auto-notify you, even when you're on the same wikia). It would be nice to be able to turn on an auto-notify feature so that when you start talking to say, one of the staff, you can click an auto-notify button so that you'll be notified when a reply has been made. Then you can just turn that off. It would also be nice for those like me who split their talk page. On the gaiapedia I split my talkpage into subpages for things such as discussion, and bot requests it would be nice if I could turn on an auto-notify feature for those pages so that I'll be notified when they are changed like with the main talk page. Thanks. It would still be cool to have a chat extension in MediaWiki somehow. But the freenode channel solution will do for the time being for those wikis who want a chatroom. I started a poll to see if there are enough people interested in chat in my wiki. --Spankart 20:39, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
