So, right now pages that need work fall into two categories, stubs and wanted pages. My idea is to dynamically enhance these pages by using two already present features, star ratings and page views.

Lets say you have a stub that a lot of people want completed. There are basically 3 types of users that will visit that page: ones that give a rating, ones that just look, and ones that edit. For example, a user visits the stub, sees that there isn't much there, and gives it a low rating as a result. Another user comes along, looks at the page, but does not choose to rate it for whatever reason. The third type of user comes along, sees the stub, and does a bit of editing.

All 3 users' behavior should be trackable: ratings, visits and edits. What I want to know is if these statistics could be compiled together to show the demand for a particular article and track it's progress.

For instance, you could sort all 1 star pages by page views to show which bad pages are in the highest demand. Displaying edit count next to it would also show how much work if any is being done to indicate progress. The title of this page mentions stubs specifically, though having this implemented for all pages doesn't really add any difficulty. All wanted pages would need to be converted to stubs, though this would not be terribly difficult for an active user.

My brutally honest opinion? I think you have no clue what's important on your wiki, or you wouldn't need this. Has anyone tried putting a link on the stub template that reads: "Looking for information and can't find it? Ask a question here!". You could appear helpful and get to know what to add at the same time. --◄mendel► 01:10, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

To strip down my idea though, is there any reason more isn't being done with the page rating system? It shouldn't be terribly difficult to see a list of pages in each rating range. I mean, a quick list of all 3+ star rated pages would be nice for someone to browse through. 1-2 star pages would also clearly be labeled as works in progress.

For that matter, is it just me, or is a page's rating no longer visible? It asks me for my rating and displays that, but not the overall rating.
