Hello, I tried to insert a photo from wikicommons into a text. But i.e. this link will not work:

File:Watching Sunset Salar de Uyuni Bolivia Luca Galuzzi 2006.jpg

What is the reason? -- Tirkon 17:46, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Wikia projects are not connected with media from Wikimedia Commons. G.He(Talk!) 17:55, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
Alternatively, you could upload images locally or externally link them if necessary. Commons Picture of the Day can be inserted via:
http://tools.wikimedia.de/~daniel/potd/commons/potd-400x300.rss
and will appear as:

Thank you for your fast comment. But I do not understand how to produce the correct link-text. Thus there are remaining many questions:

 • 1) Why is wikicommons not connected? It would be very useful.
 • 2) What has to be done, if I want to upload a wikicommons photo to Wikia, which is not mine?
 • 3) The "picture of the day" was only an example. Can I link every photo from wikicommons? How can I link this photo of mine and which is the recipe to produce "wikicommons link" --> "Wikia to commons link"? File:Erkrath Unterbach Korresberg Heiligenhäuschen 3.JPG --> ???. Can I use the "Wikia to commons link"-photo with "thumb"-alike and floating around text and a description under the photo. -- Tirkon 18:30, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
1) They are totally seperate projects. Wikimedia and Wikia are only loosely affiliated (some of the same founders and contributors, different in almost all other respects). To allow widespread embeded images from Wikimedia would be bandwidth theft (and would encourage Wikia users to abuse commons).
2) All images on wikimedia commons should be free (public domain, GFDL, Creative Commons), so all you have to do is download it, upload it, and link back to the image on commons -> [[Commons:Image:Foo.jpg]] (as well as tag it with the appropriate license, which remains the same).
3) do what now?

It seems like he/she/it (I can never tell) wants to know how you can link to other wikicommons pics like the one above is linked, and if you have it as a thumbnail with text below it. I think. ~ Ghelæ 16:47, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Like sparkla say Download it from commons, then Upload at wikia, then create a link ([[Commons:Image:NameOfImage]]) to give proper credits and comply with any of the licenses. And thats how you get your image from commons.
If he is meaning to draw the image from the wikicommons in a more automatic way like sparkla said is bandwidth theft. Also the link above its just a temporal link, once it gets updated tomorrow with the new featured picture the image will change. --Cizagna (Talk) 23:19, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
