Currently if someone searches for a term, they must click the search button, wait for the possible results, then search a second time for a red link to appear and a promoting to create a new article. Is it possible to change the settings so a person sees the red link and prompt to create a new article the first time they click search?

thank you for your time. User:Anno1404 05:50, July 1, 2010

Hmm.... never got an answer to this question. Anno1404 14:44, July 23, 2010 (UTC)

You can't. And why do you want that to happen?! Jeffwang16 (Talk) (Contribs.) Email 15:08, July 23, 2010 (UTC)

Basically they used to have a link in the interface message a while ago, then they removed it. Edit MediaWiki:Noexactmatch at your wiki and use [[:$1]] to give a link to the page they searched for that has no exact match. The text they had on that before they blanked it globally was: "'''There is no page titled "$1".''' You can [[:$1|create this page]]." Happy editing, Joey (talk) 18:18, July 23, 2010 (UTC)
What do i do with:
<div class="emptymwmsg mediawiki_noexactmatch"></div>
Which is the default information on this page? Anno1404 05:18, July 24, 2010 (UTC)
Remove it and replace it with content. They had it so that went instead of actual content, which just calls on those two classes (nothing to worry about for you). Removing it altogether should have no negative effect for you if you add content. Joey (talk) 05:27, July 24, 2010 (UTC)
interesting, I tried it, and it didn't work, I will try to purge my cache, and try it on a different browser too.
You wouldn't happen to know where "Did you mean" is? When you type something and wikia tries to help you (badly) enter the text correctly by offering a spelling suggestion? I checked Special:Allmessages and it is not there....
Often the "do you mean" is replaced with the most worthless suggestions, maybe I can add that text to this section. Anno1404 06:24, July 24, 2010 (UTC)
HA found it, the huge Special:Allmessages probably had not loaded fully when I searched for it before:
MediaWiki:Search-suggest
Anno1404 06:29, July 24, 2010 (UTC)
OK I confirmed what I originally said doesn't work (I got that from a staffer a lonnng time ago, obviously outdated). Try .page-Special_Search #contentSub { display:block !important; } in MediaWiki:Common.css instead and you'll get a pretty nice message. See for yourself at Joeyaa wiki. (ec) I have been trying to create the above text on MediaWiki:Search-suggest this is what I get: Red_link_for_search.png

It is similar to the problems editing Mediawiki:sitenotice, the special page will not recognize coding, and is plain text only. I tried syntactic markers like, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:(( but it appears like this special page is text only, except for the magic words $1, etc. Any suggestions? Anno1404 06:52, July 24, 2010 (UTC)

Okay, you have been wonderful, god bless you, I will let you know if it works! Anno1404 06:52, July 24, 2010 (UTC)

You_searched_for_did_you_mean.png

Ha! It worked! Funny I got so hung up with the new text, (all pages starting with "sdgadg" | all pages that link to "sdgadg") i didn't notice that the problem had been solved, it is VERY rare that you get more than you asked for ;) usually it is significantly less. I will name one of the Dead Rising zombies after you in appreciation (really it is an honor).....:)
