I've been really happy with Wikia. It was great to be able to save the Hitchhiker's Guide to Hitchhiking by moving it here. But last week I and others decided to move to hitchwiki.org - to have a cool domain name and no ads on the right side. I personally know about half of the active contributors and I think no one will keep on editing the Hitchhiking Wiki on Wikia.
We used the database dump, but somehow we went down from over 200 articles to 114. I really wonder why. So I started checking page by page and replacing the text with a {{moved}} template. But apparently that is not the way to do it. See http://hitchhiking.wikia.com/wiki/User_talk:Guaka#blanking_pages
How can I found out what happened to those 142 pages? GuakaTalkCS 06:19, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- You could just make a list from Special:Allpages and see which of them you have on the new wiki. Angela talk 04:13, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- Special:Allpages only lists stuff in the main namespace, you have to use the other options on it to search the rest. If you want, I could create a User on your new wiki, throw together the Family files for both wikis, then build a quick Pywikipedia bot to compare lists of articles between the two wikis. Though, when we move the Gaiapedia, I'm hoping for a different method of moving the entire wiki. It's not going to be all that great unless I get part of the users table, the blocks, and the full unaltered table of articles etc... transfered to the new wiki... even If I half to fork over a temporary MySQL user to the devs here and create the export for the users that have edited on our wiki. - All content seems to have been copied correctly.
- For the Hitchwiki there's not a big issue with users, since there weren't that many. And all five or so active users are really happy to move to hitchwiki.org, but still Jimbo and Angela want to keep and even promote the Wikia thing. GuakaTalkCS 23:19, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
200 articles according to what? Perhaps you're using different stats on the new wiki. Have you tried to just look at the wiki and work out if anything is missing? Have you counted how many pages are in Special:Allpages? Angela talk 16:43, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
The wikia says 2,059 articles. The new wiki says 2,224 articles. Dantman (Talk) 17:44, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
