Currently we're dealing with a vandalism attack on Gaiapedia. I do pretty much have it under control by using check4change to check the recent changes for updates every minute and banning every ip and reverting it on the first hit of vandalism.

But couldn't there be some special feature that could be used during the time that a mass vandalism attack. Basicly it would be nice if we had a special page where we could enable something like "Martial Law" where unlike normal only registered users would be allowed to make edits. It would slow things down. I know it could be done in the settings by changing the permissions, but it can't be done currently by a breucrat. Which would be nice.
- Forcing people to log in isn't going to solve much since it's so easy to make an account. What might be better is an easier way of adding editing limits. Page moves are currently limited to 2 per new user. We could make it so an IP or username could only make one edit a minute, which would slow down the vandalism without completely preventing normal editing. Angela talk 01:19, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
- Ya that sounds nice. But the main thing is it would be nice if that limit could be put into said more restrictive mode with a simple use of a special page by a founder. because the actual issue is the time lapse between contacting a wikia admin and getting a restrctive mode turned on to stop a attack. The attack has started to subside already, and now I've actualy gotten 2 or 3 edits of people actualy adding propper content to the wiki.
Or even better. A hightened restriction on CAPTCHA. While I don't like how it restricts my members from adding external links to threads and pages on the site we document it would be nice to make it more strict while vandals are attacking. Dantman (Talk) 02:39, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
