Hi everyone,
Last Friday we made Monaco the default on 1500 of the smallest wikis so that we could test it out in a variety of environments. We found a few issues that we've been working to fix before making it more generally available. I'm happy to announce that Monaco is now available in your skin preferences so that you can check out your wiki in this new skin. We consider this much more a successor to Monobook and hope you like it.
In the next few days, unless we find any blocking issues, all wikis that currently have a Quartz default will be changed to a Monaco default. If you want to switch it back, you can via the skin chooser. For the wikis with fairly heavy customization (ffxi, marveldatabase, dcdatabase, wookieepedia, etc.), there should already be a custom version of Monaco. To check it out in advance just add "?useskin=monaco&usetheme=custom" (without quotes) to the end of any page url to preview it. (Right now the skin chooser lets admins set "custom" but that sets it for the whole site... this way you can preview without doing that.)
Some wikis have already set Monaco as the default skin by themselves: http://muppet.wikia.com (admins, just go to skin preferences, scroll to the bottom to "Admin options" and you can set it there, too).
There is a page here: http://help.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Monaco_Skin_Customization that talks in more depth about how to customize Monaco.
There is a page here: http://help.wikia.com/wiki/Help:New_Skin_Chooser that talks about the skin chooser in more depth if you have questions about that.
One nice thing about Monaco is that you can create your own personal sidebar and toolbox links (see the customization page for how to do that).
Please take a look at your wiki with Monaco and let us know if you find any issues.
Thanks,

Like the new skin, but can't change logo
Hi, I like the new skin, the more space on the right and can change lh menu (not got that far yet), but not able to upload new logo on w:c:sca21. Uploaded w:c:sca21:Image:Picture(png)-002.jpg, but unable to get anything to go to Wiki_wide.png as http://help.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Monaco_Skin_Customization says (?) Philralph 12:06, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- The logo must be saved as a .png file, not as a .jpg. On the "Upload Files" page, be sure to set the "destination filename" as Wiki_wide.png -- you can just use this link, if you like. Good luck! — Catherine

FFXI collective issues
We've set our custom skin to Monaco lastnight and we've chosen this thread on our forums as the place to compile errors, bugs, and other odd things(including a wierd script error for a few). Please take a look at it when you get a chance. --CharitwoTalk 13:01, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- From that thread discussion I think the only large items was related to how large your menus were (836 links) and so they loaded slower. That's been taken care of by reducing the # of links but we're going to put in some limits so that people don't do this accidentally. :) Johnq

Action Bar Sprites
Is it possible to be able to customize the sprites on the Action Bar (Edit, History, Watch, etc) to match the themes of different wikis? If not, doable? --CharitwoTalk 13:01, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Editor's pick/choice
I'm trying to customise w:c:sca21 as per [1], Main Navigation - Magic Words, by populating MediaWiki:Most_popular_articles, but it's not clear what format to use? Is it just a list of names? names with brackets? bullet list, list using two stars before each item, or something else? Thanks for help Philralph 14:47, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Philralph - yes, that will need clarification. You can find an example here: http://help.wikia.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Most_popular_articles . Johnq
