It might be useful if there was a 'Visit a random orphan Wiki' - those which have been created and then effectively abandoned, or which have not been active in some while).

Alternatively an equivalent to the 'shortest articles/fewest links articles' lists on most wikis, which identifies such wikis.

Hopefully a number of wikis will be developed/adopted as a result (or possibly amalgamated into other wikis). Jackiespeel 15:11, June 14, 2012 (UTC)

It's likely that most of the time when you go to a random wiki, you won't be interested in the topic, so I'm not sure if they'll be many success stories with this -- RandomTime 15:20, June 14, 2012 (UTC)

There should be #some# way of identifying 'orphan wikis' so that appropriate action can be taken.

The first option is a parallel to the suggestion I have made on Wikipedia for a 'Random article with tags requesting improvement' and the second option is probably more useful - people are more likely to spot 'something they wish to develop' (or suggest amalgamation etc - as could probably happen with some of the 'dormant wikis' on [1]).

If there were a list equivalent to the 'Pages with the fewest revisions' list for orphan and abandond wikis it might encourage adoption of at least some (and merging of others).

There could then be a two phase process - adding categories according to a 'rough classification system' possibly based on the Dewey Decimal System for library organistaion: such as entertainment (literary, visual media, fanfic etc), 'food and drink', 'history, government and politics', 'geography and travel', 'practical' (similar to Wikihow) - with some wikis being merged into more general existing or unadopted wikis.

It is much easier to select a wiki (or a wanted page) from a list than clicking on the random button - and the suggestion would only involve developing a few category tags. Jackiespeel 10:03, June 16, 2012 (UTC)
