Ok, I give up - need some help with pywikipedia.
I made format c:/ and since then can't run my wikia bot.
I installed python, and now when I run login.py (from archived pywikipedia dir) all seems to go fine - "Password for user Progenitor Mover on homeworld:en:" displays, I type correct password and what I get is "Login failed. Wrong Password?" - when password is ok, as when I use it to login via browser - all goes well.
No, I downloaded pywikipedia from web, copied user-config.py, created new dir named families, and put there my file homeworld_family.py. Now, when I run login.py I get:

Please make a file user-config.py, and put in there:
One line saying "username='yy'"
One line saying "mylang='xx'"
....filling in your real name and home wikipedia.
for other possible configuration variables check config.py

^ For this I used version of pywikipedia marked 20040817, for archived one - don't know which was that. Both now, and last version I run on Windows XP Home. Now I installed latest python, have no idea which version of it was used before format. My bot has set userskin to Monobook, but wikia is using Quartz Sapphire. Wikia: Homeworld Wiki, user: Progenitor Mover, homeworld_family.py file.
Please, help me making this work SkywalkerPL 19:01, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

  • As it may be needed, user-config.py:
mylang = 'en'
family = 'homeworld'
usernames['homeworld']['en'] = u'Progenitor Mover'

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to get a previously working version of pywikipedia going after a C drive reformat. Obviously you thought of this, but given all this frustration, why not just do this the right way and install the current pywikipedia in the default location (subdir of c:\python25\pywikipedia)? The 2004 version is awfully, awfully old. If you have done this using a recent version)...
* Families and all should be ok since it produces the login message that could only be produced if it correctly found them. Does your user-config.py have the line
console_encoding = 'utf-8'
*If that is ok too, next to verify configuration... the default install created a families directory for me filled with lots of .py family files at
C:\Python25\pywikipedia\families
Did you not have that structure? Where did you create this "Families" directory you mention?
From the C:\Python25\pywikipedia directory, run login.py -lang:en -family:homeworld
Does C:\Python25\pywikipedia\login-data directory exist?

  • ok, I found the problem. There was no files in families, not even such dir in distribution I got. So I downloaded snapshot-2007-08-11 (most recent I found), copied user-config.py and homeworld_families.py and... everything works fine :D. Thanks a lot Phlox!
No problem- if you get into a jam on creating custom scripts, let me know- I am starting to understand a bit about this beast. ~ Phlox 16:56, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
