What the Frell is this new "read more" section added to our pages? -- Roguebfl talk contribs email 16:26, December 7, 2010 (UTC)
And here.--Lapidothtill 09:11, 7 December 2010
- It would be nice to have some insight into the algorithm used for related pages. Some of the results are definitely odd. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 11:25 AM PST 7 Dec 2010
- I agree. Some of the results on my wiki really make no sense. It also appears on pages with a "related links" or "see also" section, which seems kind of redundant to me. If Wikia can't improve it or give us manual control, I'd be interested in finding a way to globally turn it off. Monchoman45 Talk Contribs Skystone
- Follow up: I've observed that if you add a read more header to the bottom of a page, it removes the header and lets anything underneath it float up to the last header to make room for the special read more section. This seems destructive to me, especially on any wiki that used a read more area on all of its pages prior to this update. Monchoman45 Talk Contribs Skystone
- Yes. I think that hidden categories will not be used for the "related pages" and "read more" sections. In lt.biologija@wikia very offen are used images from [1]. This images aren't generated in the Related pages and Category galleries as trumbniles (see lt.biologija:Mėlyngurklis lampornis. We are using template for auto formating of title lines of pages on the many of pages of our wikia. When auto generator don't find images it get only last part of title line (see lt.biologija:Lampornis clemenciae bessophilus). This is not correct. So, I think this autogenerated parts is not usefull for the lt.biologija@wikia. How I can manage witch contents of this parts will be generated? Where is full description on this new feature? Where is approval of comunities for using of this new parts of pages - disinformation about things witch are describen in the main part of article? If this parts You won't leave, I think this parts must be moved from the end of articles and from the begining of categories to the left to the other common wikia futuries (recent wiki activity, foto of this wiki, more from wikia). This will seperat article text from contents witch is not closely linked to the article text. -- Vpovilaitis Talk Edit Count 06:45, December 8, 2010 (UTC)
- Wikia does not have a user friendly (or admin friendly) release process, as far as I can tell. Wikia is way, way, WAY behind on help pages, but don't seem to have any urgency.
- My advice... if you can't find the info you need to use or manipulate a new Wikia feature, ask for it at Special:Contact. This is the only place where they won't say something like, "we don't really look at or follow insert communication method here that isn't Special:Contact." If you don't like the answer, ask again. Keep asking until you get the answer or they realize by not giving you the answer they have spent so much money on supporting you, it is cheaper for them to give you the answer you want.
- As I have said before, I challenge anyone to prove my suppositions wrong. I welcome it, even. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 11:49 PM PST 7 Dec 2010
- Yes. If will be used the "related pages" and "read more" sections in same condition, I think, that I and my comunity will be must reassess our attaching pages to the category polisy. We will be need exclude of using hidden (witch are use for the special conditions: fullness of article, requirement of name translation ...) and will be need leave only smallest categories in the article in witch are collected articles with closely related pages, and we don't can leave categories in witch are colected articles by the one or two conditions by witch are realated this articles. This is a big work and after this will be very unuseful caterogisation of articles for the administration of our wikia and for readers. So, I think, that using "related pages" and "read more" sections without upgrades is a bug of wikia. -- Vpovilaitis Talk Edit Count 15:02, December 8, 2010 (UTC)
- I'll second that. Assuming the new update is never changed or improved (which is probably unlikely), to force it into proper use wikis would have to use smaller categories of pages, which would be difficult for large wikis, and tedious in all wikis. Alternatively, according to Wikia's article on the feature, the algorithm attempts to find pages with as many categories in common as possible. So using more unique category combinations would also make it more specific. Still, I think Fanyllic has the right idea here: we should be using Special:Contact. - The Read More section disappeared from my view in Monobook. Has this happened for anyone else? Monchoman45 Talk Contribs Skystone 21:59,12/8/2010
Templates need to be expanded
At least when this module tries to include (parts of) pages, then at least have it expand the templates used on those pages, before including parts of it...
I mean look at this and you will know what i mean...
If the module isn't able to do that, then there is no valid reason to keep it...

- That's a fail. The text it provides is already awkwardly large and too short to be of any real use, but if it has to consume some of the few characters it actually displays for table syntax, then I agree with TriMoon. Useless. Monchoman45 Talk Contribs Skystone 23:42,12/9/2010
- You should still report this via Special:Contact (or w:c:unchartedwaters:Special:Contact). -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 4:06 PM PST 9 Dec 2010
- Nahh its not visible on monobook, so wikia just makes their own brand look amateurish without my help ^^
As soon as it starts popping-up in monobook, ill just kill it with CSS as it has nothing to do with their advertisement's clause in the ToU...

Custom "Read more" section and "Category galery"
After request, default wikia "Read more" section and "Category galery" was excluded from c:lt.biologija:. This wikia are using Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) and will have special properties whitch was used in the articles for describing realated articles, images in the article and images texts. For this reasons I made templates Galerija (Galery) and CatMain. This templates are will used for making custom "Read more" section and "Category galery" in the c:lt.biologija:. See exaples: Mėlynkrūtis tulžys (Cat), Paukščiai (Cat), Kolibriniai (Cat), Mėlynkrūtis tulžys (Article), Paukščiai (Article), Kolibriniai (Article), ...). Custom "Read more" section is collapsible and auto collapsed. For show You must use [rodyti], for hide - [slėpti]. -- Vpovilaitis Talk Edit Count 08:41, December 17, 2010 (UTC)
- I don't really know what to make of that. But I got a reply from Sannse through Special:Contact, and she said that you can add __NORELATEDARTICLES__ to a page to remove the read more header, and Wikia does have the ability to mass remove category galleries. Unfortunately, I added __NORELATEDARTICLES__ to a page and it did nothing. So I don't know what to make of this. Monchoman45 Talk Contribs Skystone 12:51,12/17/2010
