Is it possible to remove the 'Recent Wiki Activity' and 'Photos on this wiki' boxes from the right-hand side of articles? They don't appear on the front page, only on articles, but they take up too much room and make the articles look squashed.

Thanks for any assistance. OllieMartin 11:07, October 26, 2010 (UTC)

add this to your MediaWiki:Wikia.css is OK
.WikiaMainContent {
float:none;
width:auto;
}

.WikiaRail {
 display: none !important;
}

Thank you for the response, but this doesn't appear to work. It looks good on paper, but has no effect on WikiGardener OllieMartin 18:16, October 26, 2010 (UTC)
If you're going to hide these boxes, you can only do this on your personal CSS and not the site CSS. If you make changes like this to MediaWiki:Wikia.css, that (unfortunately) is a Terms of Use violation. If it doesn't appear to work at first, keep it there and come back in a day, as there may be a cache problem. :) The 888th Avatar (talk) 00:09, October 27, 2010 (UTC)
I thought that might be the case, even though the front page doesn't have the box by defauly, so 'conformity' doesn't exist throughout the wiki, which is usually the excuse for not allowing such a change.

I have noticed, however, that the WoWWiki has increased their page width and this doesn't appear to be a problem! Anyone know how to do this? OllieMartin 08:38, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

I was coming back to ask how to do this without it also removing the leadership board info off of user pages. but I guess I have to revert if it is a breach of the ToU.   Hooper   talk    contribs    email   01:24, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

OllieMartin: That was a Wikia-approved change. Unfortunately, the chances are that you won't be able to do this on your wiki. You can try to contact staff about it, and it is definitely possible from a technical point of view, but it's unlikely to happen. The 888th Avatar (talk) 10:34, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

Why do they get special treatment? I have used Special:Contact, but still haven't heard anything. If one wikis allowed then all should be. OllieMartin 17:30, October 27, 2010 (UTC)
Because it's a special wiki. Wikia is no democracy. DWI.--PedroM (talk) 22:50, September 5, 2012 (UTC)

Thank you, HayateYuki! It looks like that doesn't work on previews, though. Is there a way to make it work there? Bobogoobo 21:16, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

Ideally every page should have the same heading as the main page, which just has the header row with drop-downs and the second row with Home: Edit, Pages on this wiki, 'Add page', talk and 'Search this wiki'. That way the whole wiki would be uniform and you wouldn't have to hunt around for where the 'Add page' button has moved to and articles could take up the full width. Any know how to repeat this for every page? (I'm not bothered about the Terms of Use). OllieMartin 08:22, October 28, 2010 (UTC)

I did it on my test wiki, it looks really cool, but also really weird. I wouldn't suggest doing it. Joletole (talk) 20:51, November 1, 2012 (UTC)
You're 2 years too late Joletole. This floated to the top because Mathmagician is doing a category purge, this page had an irrelevant category which he removed so it floated back to the top of Forum list despite being ancient. [In any case, removing the rail is not allowed. You can add personal CSS or JS to do it, but it must not be done to the wiki itself; the Staff will remove the code if you do and you'll get a warning about ToU] Lunarity 01:01, November 2, 2012 (UTC)
