I am working on a Taxobox template. It is similar and based on the Infobox template, but for use with Animals and plants. I have trouble with some of the parameters not showing up. This is the first parameter :
|-
| style="width:30%;" |
'''{{{Class}}}'''
| style="width:70%;" |
{{{Class|No information}}}
and this, along with other parameters that come before it (ie. pictures, caption, title, etc.) is all that show up. The next parameter is
{{#if: {{{Subclass|}}}|
{{!}}-
{{!}}
'''{{{Subclass}}}'''
{{!}}
{{{Subclass|No information}}}

, and all the parameters, including this one, don't show up in the appropriate article. I was wondering a) what do I have to put into this template to make all parameters listed show up, and b) What do I have to put in to allow the template to skip unfilled fields? That is, lets say I fill in Superorder, but not Order. I still want it to go to Suborder, Family, etc.

Thanks for any help! --meghunter99 22:55, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

With the example you gave this are the issue i see

  • in red, you are missing "}}" that are the closing of the #if parser function
  • in blue, you are putting that Subclass as a parameter while you dont need as that is your title cell
  • in green, redundant since you are using the #if: to check if its empty
 {{#if: {{{Subclass|}}}|
 {{!}}-
 {{!}}
 '''{{{Subclass}}}'''
 {{!}}
 {{{Subclass|No information}}}}}

What you mean about the "all parameters listed appear?" like a list with all the parameters {{{}}} used inside the template?

if you encase/warp each parameter individually like the subclass; example:

 {{#if: {{{Subclass|}}}|
 {{!}}-
 {{!}}
 '''Subclass'''
 {{!}}
 {{{Subclass}}}}}
 {{#if: {{{Alias|}}}|
 {{!}}-
 {{!}}
 '''Alias'''
 {{!}}
 {{{Alias}}}}}

only the parameter that have some info will display --Cizagna (Talk) Dofus » 04:43, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

new problem

I started to try and get the new taxobox template working again, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Link to the taxobox test template: http://fossil.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Taxobox/Test

Link to the test page that I tried to implement it in: http://fossil.wikia.com/wiki/User:Meghunter99/Neovenator

If you notice on the bottom of the taxobox, below species, it states This is a test page to test the new Taxobox template.. However, if you look at the text when you edit it, it should appear outside of the template. How can I fix it? I'm not too good with templates, so I appreciate anyone's help.

Also, I was wondering if there was any way to reduce the amount of white space between the Scientific classification heading in the template and the first paarameter. Also, the amount of spaces seems to vary. By this, I mean that the parameters:

  • Kingdom
  • Phylum
  • Class

All appear to widely spaced out. However, if you look at the parameters

  • Superorder
  • Order
  • Suborder
  • Superfamily

they appear to be fairly cloely put together, which is something I would prefer in this template. Is there anyway to standardize the spacing?

Also, if you look at this page, that is what I want the taxobox template to work like. On the test template, everything appears all jumbled up and mismatched; floating all over the place. For example, on my user subpage I linked to above, under the superorder parameter, both Dinosauria and Saurischia appear below it. Is this a fault in the template, and is there anyway to fix it? Fixed that. My mistake.

Thanks in advance! --Meghunter99Talk to me! 01:09, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

You didn't end the table inside that template.
Also, look at the way I remade the rows, with the "|-" outside the "if" functions; that way, the empty rows generated by unneeded if lines do not generate space. --◄mendel► 10:22, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
