I've recently adopted the Firefly wiki and have a few questions about formatting the page titles. First, how do you remove the "Main Page" title from the main page? I'm wanting to clear up space by doing this. Second, where do you create the "motto" for your wiki that is displayed directly below the page title? Thanks! Adamwankenobi 00:02, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for taking on the Firefly Wikia!
Move the Main Page to the name you want. That should also create a redirect from the main page to the new title page -- probably Firefly? The other thing you probably should do is change the navigation box. I forget offhand what page that is. Best wishes! You can also sign up for mentoring, if you wish? --CocoaZen 00:09, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
see Help:Sidebar for how to change the sidebar (MediaWiki:Sidebar) including the navigation.
see Wikia Mentoring Project, if you're interested in that.

After moving Main Page you need to change MediaWiki:Sidebar and/or MediaWiki:Mainpage, so link in navigation bar will lead directly to the new name. To make a subtitle of you wiki, go to MediaWiki:Pagetitle. You should also fix links on Special:Whatlinkshere/Main Page on you wiki to avoid redirects. Szoferka 00:17, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, but how do I remove the title completely from the main page? I'm not wanting to rename it, but wanting to remove it completely. I've seen it done on Wookieepedia. Adamwankenobi 00:18, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Well, you can't actualy remove the title or have a page without title, but you can cover it, see Uncyclopedia:Template:Title. Or maybe use " " (see code fot what's that is), but it's not good idea and it will be extremaly hard to find in some cases. Why do you want to remove the title completely? Szoferka 00:26, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
I want to remove the title as it takes up too much space on the main page, and it looks better as an introduction page without it. Adamwankenobi 00:27, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
It gaves nothing. The space, where title was before, will be just blanked but will not free any additional space. This arrangement is a part of MediaWiki constuction and it's impossible (or very hard) to remove. Szoferka 00:39, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Actually the motto, otherwise known as the Tagline is found at Mediawiki:Tagline --Kirk 00:48, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Szoferka, how does Wookieepedia do it then? Adamwankenobi 01:09, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Unicyclopedia removed the title by using css to stop the title from being displayed on pages with a certain set of elements, then it uses a template to imitate the titlebar.
I wish we had some sort of MediaWiki:Titlebar page, which had the contents {{FULLPAGENAME}}, that would make it display the same as usual, but it would also allow us to change it and add in a few {{#if:expression|then|else}}'s into it to make it so that we could hide some of the Namespaces from showing. Because I don't want to do it the way unicyclopedia is doing it because we don't have the manpower to change all the pages on the Gaiapedia to fit the format. And I haven't made my bot firefox extension good enough. We're still trying to make it a decently formated wikia. I'm having enough trouble trying to get the community to communicate strongly enough. dantman 02:55, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
I've recently been fooling arround with a private mediawiki instalation on my pc and came up with a title hack like I described. It can be found at m:User:Dantman/Title Customization Hack. It's quite simple, only editable by sysops, and if installed on wikia would make title edits quite easy. Dantman (Talk) 13:36, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
