I keep trying to make wallpapers, but unless they're tiled I can't get them to work. I was trying to make a wallpaper like these wikis,

http://harvestmoon.wikia.com/wiki/Special:WikiActivity
http://avengersalliance.wikia.com/?redirect=no
http://deadisland.wikia.com/?redirect=no

Like they have a part in the middle that doesn't have anything and has pictures on the side. I don't understand how they can have a picture that big without going over the data thing. Is there a special photo editor that they use of something? Any help would be appreciated, thanks! Mai Is Me (talk) 23:13, September 21, 2012 (UTC)

You should be fine with the gap, I think they've given us enough space for backgrounds.
I believe some people use another wallpaper as a reference/template when they do go to create a background. Currently I think the layout/navigation update blog might have some images that will be helpful. One of the problems is, you need an image big enough to fit the dimensions. If you need help editing, feel free to message me on here and include the image. When I created one, I actually dimmed the background so it fit with my wiki's theme a bit better as well as had less colors/information to load.
When it comes to editing pictures, Aviary has a free browser based image editing program. You made need to create an account to edit things. I hope this was some help. Notesworth Paddington (talk) 03:32, September 22, 2012 (UTC)
Another Wiki wallpaper
I did what you said, thanks for the help by the way, but when I did it turned out to be 2 MB, here it is. Mai Is Me (talk) 19:57, September 22, 2012 (UTC)
Never use a fullscreen PNG for a background, convert to jpeg at 50% quality and it should be less than 150kb.--Sxerks (talk) 22:48, September 22, 2012 (UTC)
