Advertisers have been able to purchase such campaigns on Wikia for some time now. Blizzard did this when they launched Wrath of the Lich King as well (I was working on the Warhammer Online Wiki at the time). Additionally, it can happen to any project; Warhammer Online purchased such an add on WoWWiki when they launched a new expansion.

Numerous projects have asked Wikia not to support such campaigns, as it hurts the volunteer wiki community of the projects that such ads appear on; many feel this is treatment the contributors of any project should not have to put up with. Unfortunately, Wikia does not seem to agree on this point. As Fandyllic mentioned, it comes down to the money. -- Heaven's Agent 17:44, December 4, 2010 (UTC)
