I like what was done with the you "have new messages" box, now you don't have to check more than a single wikia to know if you got messages, nice. However, it's not working propperly. I still get it after I checked the talk page hundred of times and there's no new messages anymore. Should I report it to mediawiki's bugzilla?

BTW, are we running mediawiki 1.8 now? Can I block I.P ranges from creating new accounts alredy?--Rataube 12:36, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Kernigh writes: I first noticed the inter-Wikia "new messages" feature on 17 July 2006. I do not know how this feature came into existence, but I find it very useful. There was that one time when it failed to notify me until I visited the correct Wikia, but I have never had the sort of problem that Rataube is describing.

1.7.1 is the latest stable version of the MediaWiki software, not the one that's actually used. Wikimedia's wikis always use the latest SVN version. You can see the revision version in the brakes after the MediaWiki version here to see the revision, currently used to run Wikia. DCLXVI 21:00, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

I have not been editing Wikimedia's wikis, but some wikis that I do edit are running 1.3.9, 1.6.6, 1.6.8. ... I remember when I was active at en.wikibooks.org, back when they ran 1.6alpha. I would get all some latest MediaWiki news. I left partly because as a "non-Wikipedian Wikimedian" I felt estranged from the dominant Wikipedians. At least two other people have complained about the "You have new messages!" thinghy not going away. One of them said tha it's fixed when he reload the chache, but I guess that's not the way it's suppused to work, wasn't that way before.--Rataube 00:47, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

I, too, have noticed that it goes away after reloading the page (i.e. the cache) but I suppose ideally it should simply go away after it's checked. I do think the feature is a very helpful improvement - Nhprman 02:02, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

When the talk page is a redirect

Kernigh: Last week, I noticed that if my talk page is a redirect to another page, then the "new messages" does not go away after I check that page. To make it go away, I must visit the redirect itself. I noticed this because User talk:Kernigh sockpuppet redirects to User talk:Kernigh here on Central, and I was doing experiments with w:c:NetHack:User:Kernigh sockpuppet/monobook.js. --Kernigh 21:18, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
