Portable infoboxes can be edited in two basic ways: visually or via source editor mode.

Basic infobox creation and editing can be done visually with the Infobox Builder, but more complex changes and customization will likely require source edit mode.

The Infobox Builder loads when editing infobox templates without complex tags, or when creating a new infobox template. The template must also have the "Infobox" template classification.

The left side of the editor pane has a preview version of the infobox with elements. The right sidebar contains buttons for adding new elements. The elements in the preview can be clicked on to be edited in the right sidebar. The elements can also be rearranged by dragging them around. To remove an element, click on it and use the trash can button on the left.

The source edit mode for infoboxes acts very similarly to the source edit mode for the general classic editor but you will see more XML tags used by portable infoboxes. The editor supports syntax highlighting.
