Finding this page and CN template[]

First, I had a lot of trouble finding this page. Please add some redirect for 'reference' and 'citation'. Second, this page still does not answer my question. I need to know how to place a 'citation needed' instead of a real citation. I've seen it somewhere and it's like 'cn' with some kind of brackets. It seems a nice addition to this page. --Vittek 16:10, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

I've added the redirects - good spot. As for the citation needed template, that comes from {{fact}}, as used on Wikipedia - see wikipedia:Template:Fact (though this specific version is much more advanced than almost any other wiki needs).
Not all Wikia wikis have a fact template, but the code for the Template:Fact page if you need to create it is basically just:
<span title="This claim needs references to reliable sources" style="white-space: nowrap;">[''citation needed'']</span>
...which creates [citation needed].
Hope that helps! Kirkburn (talk) 16:21, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Thank you very much. Anyway I've found out that the wiki I'm working on uses {{cn}} since that's the name of the template. --Vittek 20:10, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Help with Cites[]

Hello, I'm Sweet Fur. I'm the admin on Julie's Wolves Wiki, and I'm having some trouble. I put this code to get a citation (it's connected to a template page). You'll have to go to source mode to see it. But it won't work, either way. Can you help me? Thanks. --Sweet Fur AmySweet Fur and Storm Call 02:31, February 3, 2011 (UTC) </references>Revealed in Julie of the Wolves; page 153</references>

Oh, I just saw this does not belong here. Where should I move it for help? --Sweet Fur AmySweet Fur and Storm Call 02:32, February 3, 2011 (UTC)

Double References[]

Is there a way to have one reference link (the [1] thing) be placed in multiple parts of an article and still direct to one link on a reference list.

For example, if I use

<ref>google.com</ref>

twice in an article, it will link to references number one and two. Is there any way for them to both link to number one? Thanks, WarriorLoverInc 16:51, June 28, 2011 (UTC)

Hello, the instructions are hidden under Help:Cite#Named references. Named references act as footnotes to the same note. noreplyz 13:51, July 11, 2018 (UTC)
Nearly necroposting, but this is still a legit issue. The article states "You can then refer to the same footnote again by using a ref tag with the same name." But when I try it on my own wiki every pair of ref tags show up as their own reference at the bottom of the page, even if I used the exact same text inside them. How do you reference a previous source that already used a ref? — Emitewiki2 (talk) 07:00, July 11, 2018 (UTC)
Once you make a named reference tag (<ref name = "[whatever"]>https://example.com</ref>), every subsequent reference to the same source can be used with this syntax: <ref name = "[whatever]" />. An extra number should be side-by-side with the one link in the reference list. Are you able to link the page you're having issues with? Hope this helps regardless.

Customization[]

Is there a way to customize the reference box so that it can look different? The Perverted Copy Wheel Eye of Justice 19:46, November 16, 2016 (UTC)

"No Reference Tag Found"[]

Hello, I'm Xander Shelton, the admin of The Mario and the Jambastions Wiki. I still have a problem with the references on my pages. So, I tried the cite source code, but when I save my current page, it has a red text and says:"Cite error: <ref> tags exist, but no <references/> tag was found". Xandershelton183 (talk) 01:36, July 20, 2019 (UTC)

Say you have made a reference (<ref>reference</ref>). This won't display in your reference list if you don't include <references /> in your reference list. A reference list is like any other section on a page, but it's automatically generated if you include <references />. That is how you remove the error text you encountered. Hope this helps!

Make the ref appear directly at source[]

Hello, I'm doing some lists that have to be short-content but which there is much to say, so on almost each line I make a short phrase and I add a ref to develop all that has to be said. But I'm annoyed that the refs are links that lead to their proper section, farther in the page. Isn't there any way to make my ref appear in some kind of popup, right there we are when we're reading the list?
Thanks in advance
