When will the next update be? The page says that "These are regenerated every week", but they haven't been updated since June 13. I'm just asking since I promised to fork a wiki for a community. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 19:10, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

When we click the Request buttonEdit

When we click the Request button there should be some kind of response e.g., "check back here in about an hour", instead of just seeming to do nothing. It is not clear when one should check back. Also there is no separate button for just requesting a fresher current backup instead of wastefully both. Jidanni 09:39, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

There is, at the top of the page. --Uberfuzzy@Wikia 05:55, September 6, 2009 (UTC)

ATTENTION: We need the logs from a wiki to complete our copy of the wiki Edit

We have an xml backup of the wiki pages. We have the images imported. However if you look on image pages for example, the comments and possibly other information is missing from each image. Instead we see "((recovered file, missing upload log entry))" ...which seems to imply this info is derived from the wiki's logs. So in order to have a complete copy of this wiki it seems we require these logs!!

Please let us know if/how we can obtain these logs as soon as possible... --12.213.80.54 03:28, September 6, 2009 (UTC)

Image tar file? Edit

Hi, is there still a facility to download a tarball of all images of a wiki, like there used to be at e. g. http://images.wikia.com/eisenbahn/images/images.tar some time ago? Thanks --dealerofsalvation 03:19, August 5, 2010 (UTC)

No, these are no longer generated. Depending on the situation, they may be generated on request, but not in every case. --Uberfuzzy@Wikia 03:50, August 5, 2010 (UTC)
OK, thanks. If you happen to reintroduce that feature some day, let me know ;) not that I intend to leave Wikia, it just gives a greater confidence to know to have a backup ;) --dealerofsalvation 04:35, August 6, 2010 (UTC)

Database bump update Edit

Hello, I'm an admin from the One Piece Wikia and I wish to ask has the database dump for our site updated yet. I've already requested a database dump and even asked via contact twice however it seems like our statistics has not been updated. It says 10:29, September 15, 2010. Is this normal by any chance?Mugiwara Franky 18:10, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

Wikia do not want anyone to move away from Wikia so are not giving the dumps out. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 18:23, October 27, 2010 (UTC)
I have my suspicions that maybe the reason but without proof I'm not really sure. If it is even partially true however, that's a very unprofessional way in dealing with the problem they created.Mugiwara Franky 18:34, October 27, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, so I'm not the only one having this problem? But still, you are better off then I am. My last database dump was last done on January 5, 2010. My request for a dump expired overnight. I'm doing my best to be patient but this is getting ridiculous. Icelilly 15:43, October 28, 2010 (UTC)

It's most certainly not the reason. With over 170,000 wikis on Wikia, the automatic dump generator needs a rewrite... so we have to do them manually right now. And obviously, with the big changes going on there are other things at the top of the to-do list! I know the latest batch were set off running yesterday -- and I think (from the dates of requests) onepiece should be in that batch. Icelilly, you are looking for hetalia.wikia? That was requested just over a week ago (which is why the button reset), so I don't think it will be in this batch, but will be run as soon as possible. Sorry for the delay all -- Sannse@Wikia (help forum | blog) 16:12, October 28, 2010 (UTC)

Try using MediaWikiDumper. Works fine. It would be funny if staffers will disable the API to prevent saving wikis this way. ~ Edward Chernenko <edwardspec@gmail.com>MediaWikiDumper 18:59, October 28, 2010 (UTC)

Thank you both for the replies. C: I apologize if I sounded rude. Icelilly 19:52, October 28, 2010 (UTC)

LOL. Only a confirmation that Wikia staff doesn't want people to take dumps. ~ Edward Chernenko <edwardspec@gmail.com>MediaWikiDumper 02:38, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

I don't know if it's because I'm tired, but I was laughing so much reading these posts!
"Ohh no! Wikia won't let me take a dump!"
"I haven't taken a dump since Janurary!"
or even better " My request for a dump expired overnight." Did you hold it in too long by any chance? If so, eat some prunes!

HAHAHA --THIEF 00:52, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

Size? Edit

Next to the download links is a warning that the dumps may be quite large. Far more useful than the static warning would be an actual filesize, which should be a trivial tweak. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:48, January 10, 2011 (UTC)

Thoroughly busted Edit

Database dumps are thoroughly busted as of 00:39, July 9, 2011 (UTC). Try it yourself. Push request. Wait a week. Check back. All still "unknown". Also who can remember to wait a week? Even Facebook sends one mail when the dump is ready.

Facebook and Google actively encourage users to make offline copies of their precious data. So should Wikia. Jidanni 00:47, July 9, 2011 (UTC)

We are changing the way these get generated. It used to be automatic, then the script got overwhelmed by the number of wikis and it had to be manual, now we're fixing it to be automatic again - so watch this space :)
Of course, this doesn't affect the full backups that we do of all wikis for general data security - those are always automatic and done alongside any XML backups -- sannse WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 22:56, July 15, 2011 (UTC)

Incorrect host name in <base> Edit

I just pulled down a database dump generated from the Disney Wikia on November 1, 2011 and noticed that the URL shown in the <base> element is incorrect. Instead of having "http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/The_DisneyWiki" as the value, it has "10.6.34.42/wiki/The_DisneyWiki". I happen to have a dump from back in January 2011 as well and that dump has the correct base URL.

Is this a known issue? Thanks. Mdillon 21:34, November 3, 2011 (UTC)
