This needs to be OPTIONAL. I hate this, and if this crap is going to be on wikia at all, give us a choice. {{SUBST:User:BionicleKid/Signature}} 18:27, September 29, 2011 (UTC)

Question[]

When are the list of wikis who test this on beta going to use this, like Ben 10. Sorry for my impatience, but im very excite to use this feature! TheBen10Mazter (T-B-C) 00:01, October 11, 2011 (UTC)

If they don't make this optional, they will lose even more editors. They are already losing many wikis and editors because of all this stuff that is being put out without anyone having a say-so. I say add this to the wikifeatures. —Technology Wizard ·Contribs· ~Talk~ ·E-Mail·  00:35, 10/11/2011

This need to be optional. I personally don't mind it, but I know a lot of people will. :3 TwiTalk / Contribs

Typo[]

It says you can delete posts on here, but actually you can only remove or close. How come? Down with Rebelle! RNN6 (talk) 20:48, November 15, 2013 (UTC)

It will be better if you contact a local admin/contact Wikia --Echoblast53 (talk | contributions | chat) 22:08, April 17, 2013 (UTC)
What I have found is that after you remove a message, if you reload the page, the message shows back up again with the removal notice at the top. The menu will now have a Delete option for a more permanent removal. However, it's not a real deletion of the message. It's more like a better method of hiding the message than just removing it.
I found this out because I went through the removal/delete process on some messages where I had put in the Delete template. When I checked the What Links Here for it, those message wall messages still showed up in the report and they're still in the user's contributions list rather than their deleted contributions. But if you go to those messages, you're told they have been deleted.
In order to break the connection between the "deleted" message wall messages and any other templates or pages, you have to use the View/Restore button to show the entire message. Then you can edit the message or reply to remove the link or template. Once you click on Save, verify it's gone, then exit out of the message without actually restoring it. Then the message wall message will be as deleted as we can get at this time. —RRabbit42 (leave a message) 16:43, July 12, 2014 (UTC)
I am going to add a note about this since it's an important point to remember when it comes time to do maintenance for a wiki. —RRabbit42 (leave a message) 16:18, August 24, 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia Flow[]

Is Message Wall the same thing as Flow? andrybak (talk) 07:30, September 24, 2015 (UTC)

Forbidden[]

Hello, a user by the name of SuperSajuuk (on a certain wiki) has forbade everyone to delete messages on their Message Walls, without any consensus or validation that it's even remotely a rule we should follow. He even threatened to ban me (as I was "disruptive" in his words). How should I go about this?--Princess Hibana (talk) 13:31, February 3, 2016 (UTC)

Please see the message I left on your message wall. Lelouch Di Britannia Talk Page 13:46, February 3, 2016 (UTC)

Message Wall not working on some Wikias[]

It does not function in some Wikia such as the Villains Wiki. JohnnyD-the-VGNerd 21:35, April 6, 2016 (UTC)

The message walls have to be enabled. Plenty of wikis prefer the old user talk pages. --Tupka217 21:55, April 6, 2016 (UTC)
They are enabled, Tupka. @Johnny: Could you be more specific? I just checked it and tested it, and it seems fine. If you are experiencing an actual bug, report it to Staff via Special:Contact/bug. Shyguy-emoticon.gifJoey (talk)

Certain User-groups and Removing messages[]

I've recently noticed some removed messages on my message wall. But even though they aren't deleted, I wouldn't be able to restore them if I tried. I've been reading up on the page about message walls, but I can't find any explanation as to why I wouldn't be able to restore certain messages if I tried.

I've just discovered that with message walls, users apparently can't restore messages that were removed by an administrator or discussion moderator. I tested this on my bot account, revoking their discussion moderator rights, and having them leave a message on their own message wall. And then using my main account, I removed the message from their message wall, and I checked, and my bot account was unable to restore it.

I reinstated my bot's discussion moderator rights, and checked again. This time my bot was able to restore the message they left on their message wall. So it seems that any user can restore any message that another user (without administrator or discussion moderator rights) left for them on their message wall. And if another user leaves a message on their message wall, and the user decides to remove it from their message wall, the user that left them the message will be able to restore it.

But it seems that if an administrator or discussion moderator (both user groups can remove and restore any messages posted by any user) removes a message from another user's message wall, they will be unable to restore it, despite being left on "their" message wall, and not someone else's. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 11:39, July 31, 2016 (UTC)

archived user talk pages[]

"Archived user talk pages will still appear in maintenance reports. Should you wish to edit the archived pages, they can still be edited via the URL as follows: https://yourwiki.fandom.com/wiki/User_talk:someuser?action=edit"

This is inaccurate. It just redirects to message wall.{{SUBST:KrytenKoroSig}} 17:08, October 16, 2020 (UTC)

How do you fix the message wall when it's broken?[]

How do you send messages to other users on the message wall when it's broken?

Links within UCP message walls[]

I know that this has to have been asked by at least a few people elsewhere, but I need to know. Prior to UCP, links were simple links. Now if you put one in, the raw code for the link shows up, like this: [[link|description]]

Your only choice seems to be to paste in the URL and watch as it gets changed into a big box with a picture auto-inserted into it. On the one I just left for a person over on Moviepedia, the picture is the outdated "Wikia Entertainment" logo that was discontinued years ago. On a message I received on a different wiki, the person asked me a question and included links to eight Fandom wikis, which bloated the message into taking up more than one screen of space.

Is there any way to include a link in a message on someone's Message Wall without having it get converted into a billboard advertisement? —RRabbit42 (talk) 16:05, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

The preview box is added automatically, but you can easily remove it by hovering over it and then clicking the trash icon that appears.
Also just FYI, you can link any text, you don't have to display the full URL. Just select a text, click on the link button in the post toolbar, and put the URL there. (This will still add the preview box which you can then remove as mentioned before)
Nam 07:28, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the answer. I have been editing on wikis in source mode since I started and stuck with it after I watched how mangled pages got with the one or two visual editors, so I rarely use the buttons provided even for simple things like bolding. In this case, the link button is necessary for it to work correctly. —RRabbit42 (talk) 15:40, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

You've broken everything![]

Pretty please fix everything by changing all the wikis back to normal as they were years ago! —This unsigned comment is by Asmit005 (wallcontribs). Please sign your comments by adding "~~~~" in the source editor.

Unfortunately this isn't going to happen - though there will be improvements made to the new software over time. noreplyz talk 00:33, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Please, I beg of you! Pretty please, listen!

Please change the wikis back to normal and fix the reCAPTCHA connection on the login wikis. I want you to change the wikis back to normal as they were years ago right now. This has been covered many times before. The way it used to be, which was the heavily customized version of the MediaWiki software, was taking a lot of effort to update those customizations. Keeping it the way it used to be could have led to a situation where the customized version had so many problems that it couldn't be fixed. Fandom's updates bring it closer to being back in line with the industry standard version of MediaWiki. —RRabbit42 (talk) 17:02, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Can't use template on message walls[]

So before wikis migrated to UCP, users were able to add templates onto message walls. But after the migration, it's not possible. I'd suggest you add them back as before because it'll make a wiki better 99.225.26.102 15:37, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

Removing summary when a message on a Message Wall is deleted[]

When you delete a message on someone's Message Wall, you can still see the first 100 characters of what was deleted in the Social Activity feed if you're an administrator or have Discussions moderator rights. That can be useful to show what was deleted but since there's no way to recover a deleted message any more, it not needed any longer.

In cases where the message being deleted contains profanity, threats and other harassment, admins and mods are stuck looking at them every time they look at Social Activity. You can see that right now on The Smurfs Wiki. (Note: As of November 16, 2021, there are many death threats and personal attacks by the same person, so tag this as NSFW right now.)

At present, there's no way to remove that 100 character summary because there's no reason tracking for deleting something like there is standard pages and files. There's a filter to narrow down what you can see to only show deleted messages, but not "show everything except deleted messages".

Standard users and people who are not logged in will not see deleted messages, but for admins and mods, adding the ability to modify/delete the content preview or filter to not show deleted messages would help. —RRabbit42 (talk) 15:49, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

I think it would fit more to call it a "log" than a summary, and I agree that admins should have that ability to filter deleted out when viewing Special:SocialActivity - the same way as they have (by default) when viewing the actual feeds like a message wall or Discussions. You may send a feedback to Fandom about that via Special:Contact.
As for restoring deleted messages, it is actually possible.
