Sorting seems to be semi-broken..? Edit

At present, the sorting feature seems to be semi-broken.  One can sort a column in descending but not in ascending order.  If one clicks on a column header, holds down the Shift key, and clicks on the same column header — the operation that usually performs sorting by a second column — then that column will be sorted in ascending order.  And the sorting works fine in both directions in the "Preview" pane, just not in the page once it's published. Article improvement Edit

Would be cool to add the further ways to edit and format cells and text within a table, by adding links in this article.

I disagree. If those matters are not about sorting, they should be (and most probably are) on Help:Tables. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 21:56, December 26, 2016 (UTC)

Suggest moving this help page Edit

I suggest this page be moved to Help:Sorting tables. There are other sorting issues that could be discussed in a general help page about sorting such as sorting articles in categories.

I have come across so many communities where the editors do not know about the {{DEFAULTSORT}} magic word. One wiki has articles on people where they name the article [[Lastname, Firstname]] when the article should be [[Firstname Lastname]]. To sort that article correctly in its categories, the editor should use {{DEFAULTSORT:Lastname, Firstname}}.

There are also those English language articles with titles that start with A, An, or The. So those articles are not sorted under A or T, {{DEFAULTSORT}} to the rescue. For example, The X-Files would get {{DEFAULTSORT:X-Files}} in its article to sort it under X.

So, maybe make this page about all sorting issues with links to the appropriate specific articles like Help:Sorting tables and an article on magic words or an article on DEFAULTSORT by itself. Lady Aleena (talk) 12:35, September 18, 2017 (UTC)

You can always create a redirect to this help page.
