## StargateWars WikiaEdit

Hi again Angela,

1. Is it possible to have article names beginning with lower-case letters? If so, how do I go about doing this?
2. Could my Wikia please have a spot on the Wikia Spotlight at some point? Most appreciated.
3. Is it possible to make it so that when one enters a page title into the search box to the left of each page and click "Go" it goes to that article directly, instead of to the search results? I have put one of these input boxes on the Main Page, but it's still rather annoying.
4. What are the different types of input boxes? Is there a list somewhere?

Thanks immensely,

ZPMMaker 12:29, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure the wiki is large enough to be in the spotlight yet, but feel free to suggest it at Forum:Wikia Spotlight for future consideration. Angela talk

## Wikia Poland Edit

Hey, Angela

I still think you're the best. You're my hero! :)

Ps. By the way, can you tell me, what's the pronounciation of word "Wikia"? In polish it's like "Veekya" :)

I just dropped by the iPod Wiki and noticed that there was no favicon.ico (eg. std wikicities icon). I tried to upload one, not knowing if it would even work (it should be protected from non-admins like me). It instead shows me uploading a 0x0 ico which looks just like the wikicities logo in the image file history (with an upload log entry), and I see no change in the logo on random pages (I tried refreshing). It also created an image description page with my edit summary. This appears to be a very strange compramise between protecting the page and not protecting it, and it is definitely not supposed to do that. I still would like for the icon to work, and in case my first upload was unretrievable, I successfully uploaded the same icon to Image:Favicon2.ico.

P.S. When I say Wikicities above, I mean Wikicities, not Wikia. The standard icon is still that of Wikicities—it should be changed to a Wikia logo. —Marco Polo 18:12, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

You've uploaded it to the correct place, and it looks fine. something.wikia.com/favicon.ico is a 302 redirect to something.wikia.com/images/6/64/Favicon.ico so it can be very persistant in caching, and doesn't work in certain browsers. --Splarka (talk) 05:55, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

## Thank you for your kind comment... Edit

Dear Almighty Angela (I read up a bit on you):

I'm not new to technology by a longshot, but this was was first time "Wikiing." Can we use Wiki as a verb, like Googling?

Being a novice, a question comes to mind: What's the difference between Wikia and Wikipedia? Are you simply complementary competitors? Are there rogues amongst your forces that edit each others' entries to keep each other in check? LOL!

Thx again, and I appreciated your note, which at first I thought was one of those automatic replies to all who are new, but I'm glad it was heartgiven.

Jeff

Yes, I think Wikiing can be used to mean editing a wiki. It's not commonly used yet though. Wikia aims to provide a place for non-encyclopedic content, so it's not competing with Wikipedia. One way to think of it is that Wikipedia is just the encyclopedia whereas Wikia is the rest of the library (and the magazine rack). Angela talk

## Wikia cloak request Edit

Hi, Angela. I'd like to request a Wikia cloak; I started out with an unaffiliated cloak, and I think I've followed all the steps correctly. My IRC nickname is Amina. Hope I'm doing this right! :) « Amina . skywalker (¿Hábleme?) 00:54, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

## Remove, please, www.vilenin.info from the black list Edit

In the following 3 cases you have made mistakes with a site www.vilenin.info: 1 2 3

There was no spam, you could check up it using http://www.translate.ru/ or having contacted administrators of those Wiki.

In 1 User:Grep have already rolled away yours editing with the comment "Has returned back of a boat-maniac, has disguised a link under tinyurl" (Compare www.vilenin.info and http://tinyurl.com/juy9x)

Remove, please, www.vilenin.info from the black list, and I promise, that it to appear only in these 3 Wiki

With respect, Aleksandr

Are you the person adding these links? How is adding the same link to the home page of every Russian wiki not spam? How is vilenin relevant to those 3 wikis? Angela (talk) 11:27, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
• Yes, I am this person;
• In "every Russian wiki" (Actually not in all) I am adding not only link on www.vilenin.info, I am adding link on www.vilenin.info with thematic to a site and to them text, but I agree, that I have gone too far. For this purpose the optimal only 3 specified wiki

Unless another Russian speaker who I can trust says this link is needed on the wiki, I'm going to leave it blacklisted since you have admitted to spamming this on multiple wikis. Spam is not allowed here. Please just accept that and stop trying to promote your own site in this way. Angela (talk) 08:51, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your comments. In 1 User:Grep have already rolled away yours editing with the comment "Has returned back of a boat-maniac, has disguised a link under tinyurl" (Compare www.vilenin.info and http://tinyurl.com/juy9x) Original Russian version: "откат бота-маньяка, замаскировал линк под tinyurl" You can check up translation, for example, by http://www.translate.ru/. I think, that this actions he has already told, that this link is needed on the wiki. He has one of the biggest edits history in Russian wikies. Before, I have already promised you, that my site to appear only in 3 Wiki. Remove, please, www.vilenin.info from the black list. Thanks. With respect, Aleksandr 89.109.3.90 13:59, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

I see no reason for that link to exist in 3 wikis. Trying to force your own site on Wikia like this is simply spamming. Angela (talk) 13:19, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

I do not see the reasons to leave www.vilenin.info in the black list, you can always bring it there repeatedly if I shall be engaged in a spam. Thanks, with respect, Aleksandr 89.109.9.99.

I have created new design of my site. With respect, Aleksandr 82.208.126.20 23:53, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

External sites are not needed to make the content of a wiki good. Furthermore giving out the link to your own site pegs you as someone trying to promote their own stuff. If you wish for your site to be promoted then you'd better find a member of that wiki that realy thinks that it would be a important addition and have them post that message here as proof. Furthermore, due to it's spamming potential, and lack of purposefull use, I vote that we have a site wide discussion/poll inside the forum on whether or not we should block tinyurl from Wikia to stop spammers from advertising sites on the blacklist. Dantman (Talk) 15:06, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Excuse me again, but I think, that you have not read through my previous comment or have made it very inattentively. To User:Dantman:

I didn't say "I was false in saying that velenin.info is your site"

I sad "You have named me spammer and the proengine of own resource, it is necessary, that you to apologize before me."

Velenin.info is my own site! You must to apologize before me for "You have named me spammer and the proengine of own resource".

"there are many inactive wikis in which allowing you to place your link will leave it there to near never be removed", - For such you may use a script as it already did ...

"Furthermore you are copying statements", - because you are not read through my previous comments or have made it very inattentively.

With respect, Aleksandr 89.109.3.148 20:20, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

You were named a spammer before I even came here, I have no point to apologising for continueing something that was already started before I began posting. And the spam blacklist is universal, it can't be selectively configured to affect only certain wikis. Just because you may have a degree dosen't make you correct, especialy in places that have nothing to do with degrees. Since the method of translation here is bluring the lines of what is being said, I to will list out the points of my statements. Dantman (Talk

Proengine is not a word defined in english(dictionary search) but from it's context it would be believed that the definition would be something allong the lines of someone who promotes something of their own creation. How does adding content to a wiki with links to your own resource not fall under that. If a wiki has a area defined where you can place links such as that such as where we allow people to post links on 3rd party tools made for the site we document then it's ok to place things there. But adding links to your own resource is like trying to promote it. If you tryed that on wikipedia then you would surely be banned. Dantman (Talk) 21:13, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
But I prefer "I offer my own site to examination", not "I proengine my own site". In Wikipedia is no censorship, therefore after users will be convinced, that the link added by me is more useful then present links there they will leave it. By the way, by then my site will be more in size, then now, and have an English version. With respect, Aleksandr 82.208.105.244
The spam blacklist is universal, parts of it cannot be disabled for only one or two wikis. Dantman (Talk) 21:13, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
I asked to remove www.vilenin.info from the black list, not from the black list for "only certain wikis". With respect, 89.109.0.22 21:38, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
If it is not spam, why are you so desperate to add a link to it. Why not contribute actual content to the wikis instead of trying only to link your own website? That is not what Wikia is for. I am not going to remove it from the blacklist since I have no reason not to think you won't simply re-add that link on lots of homepages where it does not belong. Angela (talk) 14:22, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
I am added relevant articles or paragraph with my link. It were removed by you by mistake together with my link. With respect, Aleksandr 89.109.3.148 20:33, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

To User:Angela: "I have no reason not to think you won't simply re-add that link on lots of homepages where it does not belong.", - Excuse me again, but it is delirium.

As you know, I could put references to redirects to my site (tinyurl or other) or to put references to other domain names of my site. But I didn't do it because, I only want, that you have recognized your mistake. Understand at last, that inability to recognize the mistakes heavier sin, than their fulfilment. You have already enough dishonoured yourselves, wish you to dishonour yourselves more or recognize, that you are mistaken? With respect, Aleksandr 89.109.3.148 20:54, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

I think, that when my site will be more in size, then now, and have an English version, you see, that Wikia need link on it. I will be back and, I think then you are recognize your mistakes at last. With respect, Aleksandr 89.109.0.22 21:38, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

## Comment of Absurdopedia sysop Edit

Hello Angela, as sysop of Absurdopedia I can confirm that this link added to article about Lenin is relevant. That was not spam. Edward Chernenko 18:34, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

I still think the wiki would be better off without it since this user has been spamming other wikis with the same content. You can write about the topic without needing to link to one site about it. Angela talk

## Random page button Edit

THis is most definitely the wrong forum for this but is there any way to change Special:Random to include items in the User: and Category: spaces instead of the main namespace? The interface is in the right language now. If you still see it in English, it may be because you have English in your preferences, which you can change for that wiki. The interlang links are on the to-do list for the tech team. Angela talk

## Idea on how Wikia can turn a profit Edit

I think maybe if Wikia used a company like doubleclick.net, it would make good ad revenue. Individually a wiki here may get little traffic, but combined it should be enough to satisfy doubleclick.net. Do you think it could work? Tretonin 14:18, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

## iPod Wikia stewardship Edit

Good day, Angela. I took a liking to what was started over at iPod Wiki, and started really filling it out with content, formatting, templates, etc. - much like we've done over at SW1MUSH. Who is the admin over at iPod Wiki? If there isn't one, or there isn't an active one, may I respectfully request investure as an admin, based on my "references" and experience at SW1MUSH (bureaucrat-admin)? ## various trekkie thingsEdit

Hi Angela -- i've been transitioning over to "stexpanded" from "memory-alpha" to try and move some things that have been placed on the wrong wiki, over to the other.

i really like stexpanded, but i think there is an organization problem with the sysops -- and there is a real vacuum when it comes to wiki policy.

• one user (with no major edits) was awarded admin status with no explanation and began protecting pages that you had recently unprotected.
• pages i have worked on have been blanked out, again by admins, and replaced with deletion messages without explanation except "there's no way in hell this should be added".
• i also had some pretty simple (moving articles to simplest possible titles, again, a staple of the wiki idea) page moves reverted before i had a chance to explain myself.

now i hear they're blocking out unregistereds. is there some requirement wikia makes for keeping the page friendly and active with policy defining these actions, or are these ideas freely up to the admins who make them.

not trying to stir the pot, just feel like i could have been better received. i have a pretty good record as an admin at Memory Alpha, but i'm having a hard time keeping a cool head faced with the roadblocks that stexpanded has presented. -- Captain M.K.B. 14:39, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

## X-Files Wiki Image Problem Edit

I seem to be having a problem with viewing virtually all images on the X-Files Wiki. The problem has been ongoing for at least a few days but I didn't know where to post such concerns and didn't want to bother you as I thought you might be extremely busy! Is there anywhere that's best to use for posting concerns about bugs/other wiki-related problems, now that the wikicities site status page seems to have died a death?

I don't know whether it's only my computer that's not able to see the images on the X-Files Wiki (I've recently had to deal with some problems with viruses) and would therefore be extremely grateful if you could look at even the first page to see if it is. If so, what can be done to recover the lost files? Anything?

My thanks in advance. --Mulder 17:55, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

I've confirmed the problem is with the site itself, but I can't report a bug on the site because I can't access any e-mail accounts! Obviously, this problem is pretty big as images are usually (if not always) a big part of any wikia site. The exclusion of images ruins the X-Files Wiki - not even the site's logo is being displayed on this site or on the wiki itself. Please help in any way you can; even if you can't, I'm guessing you know someone who probably can. --Mulder 04:21, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

No problem. Good luck relaunching that wiki. Angela talk 15:25, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for making an admin there. I was wondering if it's possible to delete the site's entire database as so much of the content has just been copied from Wikipedia, constitutes vandalism or is written about the novels and written stories when I would really like to start anew and make it the James Bond movie wiki with articles written from an "in-universe" point of view, not unlike Memory Alpha, rather than the factual perspective that Wikipedia uses. The only thing that should be kept is the main page, but to remove all the rest of the content is extremely time consuming and possibly unneeded (if the entire database can be deleted). --Mulder 14:04, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
I've replied at w:c:jamesbond:User talk:009
Sorry for my deletions; I was just trying to "relaunch" the site, as it receives hardly any visitors and I thought a movie wiki would prove more popular. Also, I don't see the point of copying wikipedia articles to that site (or any other, in fact) as, obviously, that info is already available on wikipedia and copying them means adding links that have nothing to do with any James Bond releases. I've requested a James Bond movie wiki, but as I am unable to use e-mail, I didn't include it in my request; is it essential? --Mulder 15:03, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
It usually is essential since whoever makes the wiki will contact you first about your request. In this case, I think it will be est to start the content on the existing wiki. Angela talk 05:17, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
I'm afraid that's impossible - the narrative of the books and that of the films were never meant to be artificially fused together; their events and overall timeline is so completely different that, when attempting to push them together, they don't make any sense in any sort of fictional sense. Therefore, it is highly probable that every article written on the "Double-0-Wiki" site will be written from a factual perspective. It would do no good to litter the site with "in-universe" information as it wouldn't make sense with other areas of the site and (if concerning a subject that appears both in the novels and films) it would contradict even itself. --009 11:57, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
The books and films are so entirely different, in my opinion, that it would be best to use the Double-0-Wiki for either information from the books or from the movies, and to create another site that deals with the other media. Both would present the information from an "in-universe" perspective, as factual information regarding the different topics is already available on wikipedia (as established above). --009 12:09, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
How about having a separate namespace for the books? It doesn't look like many people want to add info on the books there anyway, so it's fine for the main focus of the existing wiki to be on the films. Angela talk 06:39, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank you so very much for coming up with that solution and for again eliminating vandalism on the X-Files Wiki. :) --Mulder 10:32, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Just out of curiousity, is it possible to delete an entire wiki's database and, if so, how possible? Could a vandal manage to do it somehow or are the databases secure enough? --009 19:53, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
I'm reasonably sure a vandal couldn't do that. I'm not aware of any bugs that severe in MediaWiki ever, and smaller issues than that are fixed pretty fast. Even if they could, we have offsite backups now since we have two colos, so there's no need to be concerned. Angela talk 01:31, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

## Big project Edit

Hi Angela, I'd like to show you This project, and ask you for some advice. Is something like that possible? Do you know how I could start such a project? Should I do it or is it better to keep every wikia's things on that wikia? Answer on the project's talk page if you can. Thank you and Ciao! --Let's 14:27, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for asking you this, with all the things that you have to do... I'll go to the forum. --Let's 20:37, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
No need to apologise. I just didn't have a chance to comment on it yet. The forum is a better place to get feedback though. Angela talk 06:38, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

## Math Edit

The math wikitext doesn't work for me. Why? Example: $1+1=2$ Thank you --blogadmin 17:24, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Inez has just fixed this. Angela talk 08:51, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

## Interwiki for the Inciclopedia Edit

Hi Angela! I'm a user of Incicolpedia: the spanish Uncyclopedia.

I was wondering if you could change the interwiki link to Valenciclopedia, because it appears as "catalá" but I would like it to appear as "Valencià"

Thanks for your attention--[Fer] 20:00, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

It's not something I can change myself, but I'll add it to the list of things the technical team are doing. Another Inciclopedia bug was recently fixed though, and that wiki now appears on the wiki stats. Angela talk 05:21, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks to the tech team for fixing the bug!--Rataube 15:51, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

## Namespace name on pl.wikia Edit

How about changing name of pl.wikia.com from "Wikia Poland" to "Wikia Polska"? "Polska" is "Poland" in Polish and it will be easier to find in google nad more familiar to people. If you say yes, it should be:

```Wikia Poland -> Wikia Polska
Dyskusja Wikia Poland -> Dyskusja Wikii
```

The second choice to to avoid full name, but it could be also "Dyskusja Wikii Polska" if it's needed. Szoferka 01:36, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

It isn't currently possible to have the project talk namespace be anything other than Dyskusja_(project namespace). This will be fixed when we upgrade. Angela talk 11:13, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

## Memory Alpha issue Edit

Angela, you may already be aware of this discussion on Memory Alpha, but if not, I thought it might be of interest to you. The condensed version is that someone want a page about them on MA deleted and potentially blocked from being recreated. I don't know if there are any potential legal ramifications pertaining this issue, but the consensus of the community is that the information is 1. minimal 2. publicly available from a number of other sources 3. pertinent to our stated goals and mission, and therefore 4. should not be deleted. It also leads to a larger discussion about what to do if someone doesn't want (for whatever reason) to have an article about them on MA (or any other wiki, for that matter). I'd be interested in both your personal and Wikia's official opinions on this. Thanks! -- Renegade54 14:22, 17 October 2006 (UTC) (MA admin)

I think the way WikiFur handles this is very good. See w:c:furry:WikiFur:Personal exclusion. Angela talk 06:38, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

## Job QueueEdit

Hello Angela, Esemono from Halopedia here. Our Job Queue doesn't seem to be updating with our maintence backed up since Oct, 17. Looking at this page Help:Job_queue it says you can run the job queue manually by running maintenance/runJobs.php is this something we can do or something you can do? -- Esemono 13:07, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

John said that it's something only the tech staff can do. The issues is related to them being in the middle of transfering the cron jobs between colos. We've hired a network consultant who will be able to help with this next week. Angela talk 15:34, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks good to know its being taken care of -- Esemono 01:40, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

## "Wikia messages" Edit

I'd like to point out that the logo to the Wikiality Wikia includes the Wikipedia logo, which is copyrighten. While I'm not sure about fair use/parody, it is technically copyright infringement. -- Zanimum 18:28, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

I think it's fair use since it's a parody, but I've pointed Jimmy to your message so he can decide if the Foundation cares about this. Angela talk 02:16, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
And he's passing it on to Brad. Angela talk 03:32, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

## Blocking IP Edit

Hi, Angela! On Oct, 13 04:43 you block IP's class numbers 213.76.96.0/20 on Nonsensopedia ([1]) for one week. It's not fair, because this IP's are dynamic dialup adresses (see: [2]). I can't edit this Uncyclopedia :( Please, unblock this IP's class numbers.

This is unblocked now. Angela talk 11:13, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

BTW: Why new URL's containing "wikia.com" are suspected for spam??? It is absurd! :) Sorry for my bad English. 213.76.98.74 21:16, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

There's not currently a way of whitelisting pages from the captcha. However, you can use the interwiki link [[Wikia:Whatever]] instead of using the whole URL which shouldn't trigger the captcha. Angela talk 11:13, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

## Wookieepedia Userpage Edit

• Hello Angela. FYI, a template fetch or something like that failed on your Wookieepedia userpage. I'm no techie, so you probably have a better understanding. P.S. I once mistook a different Angela on Wikia for you. Oops. I go by Atarumaster88 on Wookieepedia.
Thanks for pointing it out. It's a bug with shared templates that is often fixable by purging the page. Angela talk 02:18, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

## To many user namesEdit

Every time I type out my wikia user name. I have a new user page. How can I put them all on one page or is it not possible?

What do you mean? Are you getting the capitalization right? Or do you mean you have to make a new page for each wiki? Angela talk 02:19, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

What do you mean by the "normal" site? You don't have any edits on the Simpsons wiki. Angela talk 04:34, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
The normal site is this site, Wikia. --~BENDER 23:49, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

## Unusual numbers on Pen Pal Wiki Edit

Hi Angela. A certain individual (IP 81.177.14.26) has been adding some random number to the end of c:penpal:Wiki. You reverted it (thanks), but now it's been done again. Is there any particular reason that somebody would persist in putting some seemingly random and pointless number at the end of the article? Thanks, Markdarb 04:55, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

See: Forum:String_of_numbers_type_vandalism (not a lot of help though). --Splarka (talk) 05:30, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
It's probably some sort of spam bot. Just revert it you see it again. If it starts happening too often, we can block all long numbers, but that can sometimes interfere with genuine edits. Angela talk 02:31, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

I've cut the original message since it was being interfered with. igsky and gogoer are now blocked. See also my reply on w:c:dofus:User talk:Cizagna. Angela talk 09:32, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

## Permissions on Dynasty Warriors Wikia Edit

The Dynasty Warriors wiki no longer has bureaucrats. Could you restore Whopper's bureaucrat permssions on there (he's the founder)? Serov 08:05, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't think it's a good idea considering he went round adminning people who had very few, or even no edits. Angela talk 08:10, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Well, if he doesn't show up and the necessity for permissions comes up (like persistent vandalism for days, necessity for deletion of some pages for content purposes or whatever), is there a place where I can request permissions if I'm still the only active editor? Or is it better to just rely on staff members? I don't want to be too forward here as I've only just started editing the wiki tonight, but I'm hoping to expand it to the point of presentability, and it may end up attracting vandalism. Serov 08:15, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Any of the community support team can give you adminship if you need it unless you're banned on another wiki. It's best to make some edits and get involved with the wiki before worrying about permissions since they aren't really needed on a new or small wiki. Angela 08:24, 3 November 2006 (UTC)/17:14, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Ok, I'll keep that in mind. I don't anticipate the wiki needing administrators until far down the line, but I figured I'd ask just in case. Thanks for your help, in this and my my other questions tonight. Serov 08:42, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

## SgWWikiaEdit

G'day once more.

1. Is it possible to export every single page in my wikia without having to type each article name into Special:Export?
2. Is it possible to make new page namespaces? This would need support in the search function...
3. I am attempting to set up a board of users with various different permissions. At this stage I am the only one with delete and protect permission, and the only way of allowing others such priviledge is to make them sysops. However, I wish to set up groups who can only delete OR protect, not both. Is such a thing possible?

Thanks very much for your continued support.

ZPMMaker 04:20, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Edit: don't want them all to be able to block users, either... ZPMMaker 04:33, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

You can export all articles by downloading the database. I can add new namespaces for you as long as no pages already exist in that namespace. There aren't separate groups on Wikia for delete and protect. If you can trust someone to do one of those, you ought to be able to trust them to do the other, so splitting that probably wouldn't have much advantage. Angela talk 11:40, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
Ta. ZPMMaker 13:43, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
• OK, could you create a new namespace with the name of SgWWiki Policy please? ZPMMaker 09:23, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi again Angela, I was browsing recent changes which led me to Talk:Wikia, and I read a comment about a suspected troll. Well, you linked to Wikipedia's troll guideline-ish page and then to Wikipedia's article on vandalism, so I assumed you meant the policy page and changed it. Hi, this is Oddlyoko from the RS Wiki, and I have a few more ads that it would be nice to have removed. The first looks like a scam, the second breaks Jagex's no selling of game stuff in real life rule, and the third looks problematic, similar the the previous ad.

I realize there might not be much you can do about the eBay one, reading from a post another RS Wikian made further up on your talk page, but I thought I'd post it anyways.

Dofus is having the same problem. There seem to be hundreds of new sites like this appearing every day. It might be better to just warn users about this in project:about on your wiki since blocking one only seems to make way for a new one. Angela talk 09:36, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
That doesn't point anywhere. Perhaps whatever it was advertising has been removed now? Angela talk 01:58, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

## GFDL vio on the Hurricane Wikia Edit

Some members of WikiProject Tropical cyclones on the English Wikipedia noticed that several articles there are straight copy-pastes of articles on the English Wikipedia, including two featured articles. There was not even any effort put into removing templates that don't exist on the wikia. The articles include:

None of the copies acknowledge Wikipedia, so these are violations of the GFDL. The Hurricane Wikia is inactive, with only four editors, and no edits in the past month, so leaving a warning probably will not help. --Coredesat 00:49, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

[7] - And this template is a straight copy-paste of Template:Infobox hurricane. --Coredesat 01:04, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for reporting this. GHe is doing some great work adding templates to attribute Wikipedia, so I hope that solves the copyright issue. I've added a message on the edit page warning users not to submit unchanged pages from Wikipedia and to use the attribution template. Angela talk 09:42, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

## Las Vegas Wikia Edit

I have sort of informally adopted the Las Vegas Wiki. There was very little content when I started posting in September, and I've pretty much added all that is there (I forget to log in sometimes and also post from a laptop, work and home; so it may look as if more people are posting). I've been unable to post lately, as I was out of town. I just looked and found that someone had hacked several of the pages, and they had been reverted by you. Thanks. I was wondering if I could be given admin rights to the Las Vegas Wiki, and have the main page locked? Also, how could I upload a picture for the Wiki logo in the top left corner of the pages? Thanks -- Jillian2000.

I'll reply on w:c:lasvegas:User talk:Jillian2000. Angela talk 09:44, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Is it possible to change a username? If so, could I please get it changed to Flexo. --Bender Bending Rodriguez 22:28, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, it's not since Wikia uses the same user database across all wikis. You can simply make a new name at Special:Userlogin instead though. Angela talk 04:59, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, but if I do this, I will not be a sysop on the Futurama Wiki anymore. I'll do this some other time. --Bender Bending Rodriguez 03:34, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

I'd like to contribute to the Reviews wiki, but only if my work will not be lost barring total shutdown of Wikia. Obviously there are theoretical situations in which wikis are deleted, like if its content is illegal, but where is the line? Would a wiki ever be deleted for lack of activity, possibly because the effort to revert vandalism is too high to justify keeping it? Thanks in advance for any response. --o 05:15, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

If a wiki is really inactive and has no content, we might redirect it to another wiki. For example, if there was a wiki on a nintendo character, we could redirect that to the Nintendo wiki and move the content over there so if anyone still wanted to edit pages on that character, they could do so on the broader topic wiki. No content would be lost though. We'd either move the content to another wiki or at the least make it available as a database dump. The reviews wiki has such a lot of potential though that I don't expect to ever close that one. Angela talk 06:15, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

## W: prefixEdit

Using w:topic creates a wikicities prefix for the link - should this now point to wikia, as it can look a little messy? Ace of Risk 16:44, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, it should be changed. It's on the list of things for the techteam to fix but it's not really high priority since the links do still work even though they have to go through the redirect, so it'll get done, but I can't promise it'll be straight away. Angela talk 16:50, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

## BureaucratEdit

Oh, one more thing, is it possible for you to turn me into a bureaucrat on Futurama Wiki. If so, can I? If it is not possible, that is okay, I will not argue. --Bender Bending Rodriguez 01:36, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

No, I don't think that's a good idea considering the Sock puppetry going on on that wiki. Angela talk 02:38, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

If it says possible, what is the link, because I want to know if that other kind of Wiki has this kind of feature. --Bender Bending Rodriguez 00:26, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't understand what you mean. Angela talk 08:51, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

I mean "what is the link", the URL for it like http://community.wikia.com. And the Special:Makesysop can make people into sysops. What is the URL for making a bureaucrat? --Bender Bending Rodriguez 02:08, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

The link for what? Do you mean the link for Special:Makesysop? That would be [8] but it won't work for normal users. Only bureaucrats can make sysops. Angela talk 03:30, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

How to you make a bureaucrat is what I mean. --Bender Bending Rodriguez 19:16, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

You make one with Special:Makesysop. Angela talk 03:44, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Oh, yes, I saw that with that image on this page. I have also known recently that bureaucrats can be made if you are the creator of the site. --Bender Bending Rodriguez 03:36, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Sometimes the founder of a wiki is given bureaucrat access, but not always. If that person is making sockpuppet accounts and being disruptive, they obviously won't! It's important to note that the creator of a wiki doesn't have ownership of it. Angela talk 05:35, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

3. How can I arrange or add in Right hand menue boxes?

The mailing list password is separate to your wiki account password. Did you get an email telling you the mailing list password? If not, I can reset it.

Hi Angela, first I want to thank you for all the great work that your'e doing on Wikia - it's been an amazing time seeing Wikia grow from what it was more than a year ago to what it is now. Congrats! There's one other thing: I didn't found RPG Wikia, but I and my team took it over from being practically dead and brought it to the state is in now - not a day without an edit. We want to stay focused. We want to keep the Wikia on the topic that it has now - pen-and-paper rpgs. There is a big difference to computer rpgs and the kind of content that a computer rpg wiki would need. There are specialized Wikis for several computer rpgs (Doom or Dofus being good examples). The reason I'm writing this is that Wikia recently refused the founding of a flyff Wikia on the grounds that they can "go to RPG". As I said, it's better for them to found their own Wikia or go to one that focuses on computer games or MMORPGs ore some such. I write this because I think it's an example case. We want to be welcoming and open, but we still want to keep our focus. I think focus is one of the big strengths of Wikia. So if you refer people with a project to RPG, please don't send over the computer RPG guys. I don't want to disappoint anybody or send them away when they come in hope of a welcome for their content. What do you think? Do I make any sense or do you think that's not within the spirit of Wikia? Best regards! --KainNiemand 20:31, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

P.S. Please reply on my User Page on RPG when you find the time. --KainNiemand

## New Namespace Request Edit

Good day Angela. We'd like to request a trio of new namespaces for SW1MUSH. We found dire need for a RPlog: namespace (since they're treated/read differently than common articles), and could use Story: and Report: namespaces as well. Thank you very much! -- Hawke / Rtufo 16:44, 24 November 2006 (UTC) Hawke on SW1mush

I'm adding these now. Angela talk 08:59, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

## Top of Wikia pages Edit

What is wrong with the top of the pages on all of the Wikia sites? You cannot see your username, and other things, part of the top is missing. What is this error? --Bender Bending Rodriguez 03:33, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

It's a bug which we hope to have fixed soon. Angela talk 05:35, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

## business use of wiki Edit

hi there angela. trying to see if this is possible, and since im the techie in the family i get to ask around. anyways, i have someone who is interested in having a wiki setup for their (rather large) health insurance company. it would mainly be a way for 100+ users to create and access secure proprietary information. is this possible, and is here the right place to ask about it? if so, is there a phone number or some such at with which i could 'pass' a laywoman to talk about these things? (please reply on wikipedia, same username - thanks). JoeSmack 20:57, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

I've replied by email since it's off-topic to Wikipedia. Angela talk 06:56, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

## Toys templateEdit

A little daunting prehaps - especially to wiki virgins. But might work. Check my answer on my talk page. --Helenmarie 13:42, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

## SgW Wikia... sort of. Edit

Hi Angela,

Just wondering if it is possible to prevent users from editing if they aren't logged in? Don't plan to use it on my Wikia, but we use one at school to keep a database for science stuff, and we only want teachers to be able to contribute, using their own account. Is such a thing possible? They are running on v2.0 of the MediaWiki code.

Cheers,

ZPMMaker (16081) 01:56, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes, it's possible. See m:Preventing Access. Angela talk 08:38, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. ZPMMaker (16081) 02:28, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

## When Edit

When can I become a sysop on the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Wiki? I don't mean now. Just whenever how many edits... how many edits do I have to have? --Bender Bending Rodriguez 01:35, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

There isn't a need for you to be an admin anywhere else. You seem to be trying to collect adminships. It's not a trophy. Angela talk 08:38, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

## RecentlyEdit

I recently started the article Aboutus.org on Wikipedia- surprised it was not there yet! The editors have attempted a speedy deletion without even checking to see the large volume of search results on GOOGLE. I felt it was similar to DMOZ and deserved to be listed as it is a very open directory wiki style and has over 80 million page view as per ALEXA. I am only writing because When looking for references.... I saw your link on the Ray King talk page. Please see the new AboutUs.org article and see the rebuffing of a relevant topic.--162.83.180.170 20:37, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

I think the site is too new to meet Wikipedia's inclusion guidelines. Feel free to write about it on the Internet Wikia instead though. Angela talk 08:38, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

## Warriors WikiEdit

Recently, I discovered the Warriors Wiki... It was in disrepair, and the founder hasn't touched it since 13 August 2006. I've been working on it, sprucing, organizing, and drawing in people I feel can do it justic and help get matters in order..

But... I'm concerned about the Wiki itself... The fandom is made up of many young and enthusiastic people. Without an active person with sysop status...

I sent an email to Oglog on, the 30th of November (I belive) but have yet to receive any sort of response. I feel like introducing the Wiki to the fandom of the series would help get the place created and suchlike, but without someone at the helm to maintain order... I fear unleashing the fans of the series...

Kitsufox 18:20, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

I've made you an admin there. Angela talk 08:38, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Either the change didn't take.. Or I possess a complete inabilty to locate the functions for things such as deleting a page (some title corrections have been made, so some things have been completely moved to new titles.) Kitsufox 16:40, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
That's odd. Try it again now. Angela talk 05:46, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
It worked this time around. Must have been being moody. Thank you very much! Kitsufox 04:51, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

## Ads on Runescape Wiki Edit

I've seen your forum post re: changing the advertising provider for rs wiki.

I can see that we're playing a game of whack-a-mole with the google ads, so yes sounds like a good idea! --Eucarya 10:59, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

## Dungeons and Dragons wiki Edit

I would like to adopt the Dungeons and Dragons Wikia, dnd.wikia.com. I have already started working on it (and some other people woke up too, I suppose more will come when the changes reach Google). It had only 76 articles and was left effectively abandoned for quite some time, but now we have 138 articles (mostly NOT stubs), it's growing, it has news section which gets regularly updated, etc. I'm almost sure this will revitalise it and attract new contributors. However, there are things which I need admin rights for (e.g., locking pages and vandalism rollback), which cannot be given to me easily because the only bureaucrat has left WikiCities a long time ago. Ian, a fellow Wikian and a founder of White Wolf Wikia, advised me to contact you. Can you make me a new "founder" for Dungeons and Dragons Wikia?

P.S.: w:c:pl.dnd and polaqu: Wikias and still out of my reach. I'm a D&D expert, but I'm afraid I don't speak even a tiniest bit of Polish ;)

--Radaghast 18:26, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

You're now an admin at dnd. Angela talk 05:46, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

## new admin at novelas.wikia Edit

16:04, 3 December 2006 Angela changed group membership for User:Yunzhong Hou from (none) to sysop

On what grounds was Yunzhong Hou made sysop at novelas.wikia? This user does not seem to know what is going on, and in particular does not seem to understand the basic idea of working with a community to reach decisions. --JWSchmidt 04:32, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry for any problems that caused. He said he needed admin rights to clear up some problem pages. I'll remove that now and wait for the community there to decide who should be an admin. Angela talk 05:46, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
I was more looking for information than requesting a reversal of your action. Yunzhong Hou is willing to do sysop chores, which is a good thing. You are correct, the community should discuss the matter. Thanks for your continued support! --JWSchmidt 23:44, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

## Editing StarCraft Main Page, Again Edit

The featured article section of [9] is permanently bolded, which makes that section a bit ugly. Do you know how to turn that off? PsiSeveredHead 00:15, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

I am from the RPG Maker Wiki and along with Abyssal_leviathin I've been working on revitalizing the wiki itself through a reorganization attempt. Thing is, Abyssal_leviathin has disappeared without a trace. He founded that Wikia, and he's the only one I know who is an admin there. I've tried contacting him in any way I can (various email addys, IMs, various forum PMs, etc.) over the last month or so but I haven't received any response other than a short note that he's been having computer issues. (see the mainpage for details) If he's vanished, is there any way I can contact another "sysop" (I think that's what it's called) to work with or maybe somehow arrange to become an admin myself so I can just get it done? (deleting excess categories, pages, etc., then laying out the framework as seen on the Category Planning page) Can you determine if there are any other sysops on that Wikia and/or how I can locate a user that is one? I can't seem to find any clues as to which users are sysops. (if any are even active) --Invisionary 23:28, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

I've sent you a reply by email. Angela talk 16:32, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

## Importing From Another Wiki? Edit

Hello once again Angela. I have recently created an EditThis.info wiki which gives access to import. How do you import from other wikis? --Bender Bending Rodriguez 22:56, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't know if they offer that service. If you want to import into Wikia, let me know. Angela talk 08:31, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

They do. I was just saying if you could tell me how to. --Bender Bending Rodriguez 22:20, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

What you wrote:

Hello,
Thank you for your Wikia request. There were
actually three requests for this
wiki (from KemCab, Machchunk2 and Fire). I'm
concerned that the last one was
closed for legal reasons. How will you ensure that
the same problems won't
happen if the wiki is re-opened? Are you in contact
with members of the
community of the old wiki? Do you think they will be
likely to join this new
wiki?

Well, for one, the wiki wil be on Wikia servers, so I'd doubt that phisher would want to keep running back on the site. That is, if he still is even running (doubt that too). And yes, I am in contact with the community. KemCab was an admin there, and I'm sure CartoonDiablo (another admin) will be eager to rejoin.

Sorry if I addressed this in the wrong place. --Machchunk2 23:15, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. This wiki now exists at w:c:newgrounds. Angela talk 09:32, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

## HI FROM SPAIN Edit

Angela thanks to answer me, I don´t have any problem with Wikia, the problem is me, I am not an expert on Internet. I find this too big to me. But don´t worry I´ll find the way, with time enough I´ll feel more confident. Sorry but my English is my own English. Un saludu, Mon.

If you need some advice on where to start in Spanish, I'm sure Zuirdj will be able to help you. You can find our Spanish wikis at Category:Spanish. Angela talk 05:04, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

## Patrolled Edit Edit

Hi Angela, was wondering if it could be activated the m:Help:Patrolled edit for sysops only, on the w:c:Dofus as it would aid me because normally I'm checking in different computers (home and work) and sometimes i find my self re-cheking edits. Also that the other low activity sysops could see what has been check.--Cizagna (Talk) 20:25, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your help --Cizagna (Talk) 15:33, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

## Archaeology wikiaEdit

I haven't looked at the list yet, but if there isn't already one, would you like me to start up an archaeology wiki? ZPMMaker (16081) 13:11, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

• OK, I've decided to adopt archaeology.wikia.com - I am about to tell the previous founder about this. Could you please organize beuro access for me? Thanks. ZPMMaker (16081) 13:26, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
• Gee, my spelling is hopeless today... bureau access is what I would like, not beuro... (idiot!). ZPMMaker (16081) 13:30, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
• A bureaucrat is just someone who can make other admins. Since there's no community there yet, I don't think there's an urgent need for a bureaucrat. I suggest you get involved with the wiki for a while first, and then see if a community forms and wait until there are some requests for adminship. Angela talk
• Guild Wars Wikia was in a similar situation (inactive founder), and I was recently given sysop and bureaucrat user rights on it. As a community hasn't yet formed there either, it also has little need for an active bureaucrat at this time. Could I get that user right revoked (leaving me with just sysop access)? --Rezyk 01:30, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
• Cool, the founder is still active and wants me involved too, so that is good. ZPMMaker (16081) 02:41, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

## French Nintendo WikiEdit

## lt.runescape Edit

Hi, Angela I have problem, I doing lt.runescape style, and google ad is not transparent... Are you can do it transparent? Please of my bad english, Rtz 07:35, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, but since this comes from a script provided by Google, I don't think we can actually make changes to the style of it. Angela talk 07:38, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

I thnink, you can, it`s source:

and

is colors settingss, i think, blank fill is transparent.
