  • So recently, I've been trying to do an adoption on the Samurai Jack Wiki. I want to adopt this wiki, because, there have been quite a lot of pages that need to be deleted, some things need to be updated, kinda need to add badges, add a message wall and add templates because I feel like Samurai Jack Wiki is in short of templates.

Of course, I do need your opinion on this.

  • On Samurai Jack Wiki, an old (and inactive) admin protected these articles several years ago for no apparent reason. That seems unnecessary now, so can you unlock them? I already tried to contact you on your Samurai Jack Wiki talk page.

  • Hey Grunny. I noticed a ton of pages from the sorcerer spell list have been removed on grounds of copyright. Who filed the claim? Can we rewrite the pages?

  • Just curious if it would ever be possible to have an undo summary added as an option when using AjaxUndo. It's been really useful for me but I want to ensure that those that see me use it can know that I'm using a script.

  • I know that the current Oasis skin has some problems with platform support that can't easily be solved, such as consistent layout rules. At the same time, I know Venus is controversial among the users. Would it be okay if I proposed a third design to Wikia? If they're integrated, some of the changes I propose might make the users more accepting of another skin change.

  • Subject says it all. I'm very much looking forward to this as I've got some templates I'd like to work out on the Payday Wiki that are complex enough that they would probably greatly benefit from this.

  • Hello, Grunny.

At the Shadowhunters' wiki, I have recently attempted to copy some codes from the Star Wars and the Harry Potter wiki, particularly the "Template preloads" and "Alternating row colors" for the infobox(es). I noticed that you seemed to be the author of both, and I was wondering if you could help me figure out what can be done to make them work on the wiki. Thanks in advance! :)

    • Hey. I added some missing methods from Wookieepedia's JS. That should fix those two methods. I hope that helps. :)

    • Thanks, the preloads worked!

However, the alternating row colors haven't yet. I think it has nothing to do with the codes, but do with the infobox on the wiki (here's an example: Infobox character) which is different from the ones in HP/SW. There's currently a code in the Common.css page that works fine, until the headings are removed from the infoboxes with a prompt/parameter, and then the rows above and below where the headings should be no longer alternate. Do you think you can help with that? Thanks again

  • Hi Grunny,

I would like to know how Dr. Ball, M.D. works and what it is actually used for.

  • Hello Grunny!

I had recently a discussion with programmers of a very usefull bot (on wikipedia. I got a rather positive response regarding the fact of running it on Wikia)

This bot is really usefull that's why i ask them if they could make use this on wikia.

So I told them about the idea (please check this link to know more about how to indicate informations that will help them to do this bot works on Wikia)

It complements very well AWB bot and it is very easy to use this. They seems to be ok.

But they need informations that i dont have, i told them to go ask you. But they cannot contact you. That's why I ask you if you could take a look and tell me if the Special:Contact is suitable for this kind of thing.

    Thank you.

  • Hey Grunny,

I like the simplified templates. I can actually understand the source code on them. I'm assuming that the DPL is what accesses the comic issue for the information that your templates require manually, and that it was slowing something down. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

My question involves the use of two seperate templates. A while back, I asked around, and none of the Admins who responded knew why there wasn't one template that could both display the Season, and the Story Title. Even if there was a reason burried in the complexity of those codes, it seems to me that with your simplified versions, one could just not input a Season or a Story Title. Can you think of a reason to keep them seperate?

As a side note, How much of the Marvel Wikia needs to be changed this way, and do you need any help going through the Volume pages?

    • Hi,

Yeah, basically, DPL was being used to load the content of the individual comic pages to get that information. This information was static (release dates, comic titles, etc.), so didn't need to be loaded dynamically, and doing this hundreds of times per page is slow. By simplifying it as I did, we've seen an 80% improvement in parse time for those pages. :)

As to having just one template, that would work, but I wasn't really sure why there were some comic pages that should display the info in Cis, and some that should only show what's in the Cid template. Since I'm not an editor on the wikia, I wanted to minimise any impact of my changes, so just left them as separate templates. If the community decides to just have one template, that's easy to do.

I am going to run a script to convert most of the Volume pages over to these templates, but just started with the slowest pages that use these templates the most to verify the performance improvement. So, I'll soon be running a script in batches to go through all the nearly 4,000 pages in Category:Comic List to convert most of them. For most of the pages, there's only a few uses of those templates, so it doesn't really matter to much if they still use the DPL versions, but the ones that use it a lot needed to be done first. Thanks for the offer to help! But, like I said, I'm going to run a script that will automate the conversion, so will save everyone the time of having to do it manually. :)

    • Thanks. Since I'm not an Admin, I can't speak for the site, but I'm pretty sure this would be a blessing, and cut down on edit wars (A few editors go around switching everything to Cis, but I've been making sure the Comics that use Season have Cid).

I just mentioned our conversation in the Forum Thread that we had been talking about merging them back in June. http://marvel.wikia.com/Thread:626118

Hopefully the Admins will be more willing to make a definitive decision, since you are using your script to get it all in one go.
