Hi Jorge! I'm a bureaucrat on The Sims Wiki, which you visited some months ago to ask us if we'd want to be more formally affiliated with EA (you started a forum thread about it here). The general response on The Sims Wiki was positive, if not just a bit cautious. There was no real response from anyone on Wikia about it, however. That being said, an idea was recently thrown around between some TSW administrators on a way to promote an upcoming expansion pack release. Namely, some of our administrators were considering chipping in money to buy a copy of the EP to give away in some sort of promotional event on the wiki.
There are several reasons why I'm coming to you with this matter. Firstly, you reached out to us, proposing the idea of a more close relationship with EA. Their assistance with this giveaway would be appreciated, since we've found out that it is not possible through EA's Origin service to give codes out as gifts (if you buy them, they work only for your account). We'd rather not buy and ship a physical copy of the game, and from what I'm told, a copy of the expansion sold on Steam would not be compatible with versions purchased via Origin. However, we know that EA has engaged in game giveaways before (I want to say that the SimCity Wiki did one, but I don't know with 100% certainty), so they may be logistically able to award game codes where we cannot. Failing this approach, I'd appreciate any ideas you may have on how to implement this idea (or if the idea can even be implemented in the first place).
I am choosing to contact you here rather than on The Sims Wiki, because I'd rather not make this matter extremely publicized within the wiki. I'm not seeking to make this a grand secret, but I don't want to get the community there excited about something that is really just an idea at this stage. If this seems like a plan that can be implemented, we can then inquire with the community about whether they support it, if you feel it's necessary to do that.
Feel free to email me if you feel that avenue is more convenient than using the Message Wall. If this idea isn't "in your department" or if another member of Wikia Staff is more closely tied to these things, please let me know. Otherwise, I look forward to working with you!
Sorry about an extremely tardy reply. I was taking some vacation time recently I just saw this today. I think a giveaway is a great idea and if EA's not on board, maybe there is something else we can do. Can you actually do me a big favor though and copy this exact message and sent it to me via email? I'll be able to forward that along to the right people and get the ball rolling.
I emailed it to you through Special:EmailUser/JAlbor, since I don't know your email address. If you need me to send it to a different address, let me know.
Elecbullet — please also add a copy of this directly to the interlanguage link requests page itself so that we have a complete record of any and all interlanguage linking that takes place. Thanks!
I took a glimpse at the Requirement List. It seems as though my Wiki fits all of those qualities, execpt for the 200 Page part. Listen, I've seen a lot of spotlighted Wikis that only had like 57 pages. I know my Wiki is perfectly capable in being one of them.
I'm sorry to hear you're having troubles with that admin. Fortunately we have a whole team of folk with the expertise to help you out. As TK-999 suggested, please use the Special:Contact/general form to ask about this. If you don't hear a response soon, let me know and I'll follow up with them.
Best of luck,

Hi Jorge, thanks for the invitation. I am not sure about that, and I am busy on my public examination at the moment. But I want to know more about the details like time, venue, etc.
Sure thing! It would only take about an hour and will have to be recorded sometime next Wednesday, April 24th, sometime between 10:00 and 5:00 PST. I was thinking 3:00 -4:00 PST (The recording with probably only be 30 minutes, but an hour gives a good buffer for troubleshooting). As for venue, we'll be using Google Hangouts so we can record the conversation and put it up on the wiki afterwords.
Is that sometime that still sounds interesting to you and would you be available? If not, I can look into different times or I can reach out to another Don't Starve admin to see if they're available. Let me know as soon as you can.
Best,
Jorge (profile)•(talk) 15:44, April 18, 2013 (UTC)
