I had a question about a blog you wrote on Wiki 24 about the related videos module, it's here. You mentioned that the community could add and remove videos from the module - it's gone live recently so I wondered if you could let me know how to go about doing that?
Hi. I was wondering if it's possible not to be the bureaucrat on a certain wiki. I am the founder of the wiki but I really don't want that status anymore. I created that wiki about a specific series but now I really hate that series really much so I want to delete my account from that wiki. Is it possible to take away your founder rights on a wiki?? I would like to do it for No.6 Wiki and Natsume Yuujinchou wiki. Natsume Yuujinchou wiki I adopted but I don't want to be an Admin on that wiki anymore.
I'm not Staff or an admin, but I'll go ahead and tell you that you can easily remove your own rights. This is permanent, unless you have your rights restored via adoption or another bureaucrat- you can't restore rights on yourself.
Realistically, there is little to be gained, so please consider just leaving your rights unchanged. You certainly have no obligation to edit any wiki, but perhaps some day you will have a change in heart.
Edit:
You're the only bureaucrat on Natsume wiki. Consider giving bureaucrat status to a trusted administrator before you leave. Otherwise, with no bureaucrats, an adoption request will have to be made by someone before any user rights can be changed- a pain for the other users of the wiki.
Regarding our previous discussion, I have some good news and some unfortunate news. Good news, I did make the blog as well as making most of the changes I wanted, particularly regarding one or two things posted on our main page(i.e. our Countdown clock and a small video change). The unfortunate news, however, is that there aren't many changes on the Wiki's theme.
While I was able to change the buttons from black to red as well as taking out the image background(where we only see solid black for until we decide to upload a new image background), I was unable to get a black background perfectly. Turns out, if we changed it to black, it would mess things up a lot. It was alright with article titles and most of the content, but when it came to templates(like infoboxes), it kinda made things look like there weren't any words at all. Plus some of the boxes on the main page, like polls and "Featured..." didn't change to black but stayed grey. So I kinda decided to leave the background grey, knowing that making that particular change would probably be too much work and be better suited for someone who knows Wiki tech better than I.
Anyways, thought I'd let you know of this firsthand.
Sorry it's been so long, but I've had a rough couple of months, and haven't had much time for wiki business.
Now, as you may or may not be aware of the TB Wiki is a complete and utter shambles. It's being vandalised and spammed daily by a series of IPs and people are disregarding all policies and standards and simply doing whatever they wish.
However, I'm not willing to give up on it just yet! Not after the 2 years of hard work that me and Buff have put into it! I have a rough plan of sorts of how to get it back on track in time for S6, but I will need assistance from Wikia.
Do you think we could arrange a time when we could meet in the TB chat room so I can share some of my ideas?
I'm sorry to hear that and will of course try to help True Blood Wiki. Do you think we could set up a time next week? Leave me a message letting me know what time works best for you on my talk page on True Blood Wiki and we can quickly chat.
Hi, TKOTF, see I thought of a Nick for you already lol, has Buffy left WIkia Wikia or Just TB wiki and perminantly or just for the meantime i saw her message on her profile....
Sorry we never got around to talking. I'm going to be pretty busy this week, so I think it would be best for me to share my ideas here, and you can mull them over at your leisure:)
Firstly, I'd like to request that anonymous user be temporarily prevented from editing the wiki. I know this is a step that Wikia likes to avoid, but in the case of the TB wiki, I can't simply can't see any way around it. As you know, I'm currently the only active admin on the wiki and it's just not possible for me to get the site back on track while it's being bombarded to such a degree. Now, to my knowledge , the perpitrators are exclusively IPs, and I've yet to recall a single constructive edit being made by an anon.
I'd also like to request that the blog feature be switched off for a short while. I intend to draft a policy aimed at curbing things like innapropriate or off-tpoic blogs, but at the moment it's just becoming a distraction with people using it as their own personal social network and flooding the recent changes page.
I know these steps are quite drastic but as you'll see from the site they are necessary, and like I said they would only be temporary.
I think that just about covers it. Think it over, and get back to me at your conveniance:)
Scratch the second request, I didn't realise admins could shut that feature off! Also, do you think you could stop it snowing on the TB Wiki? It's really quite annoying and is slowing the site down.
At Liberapedia I can't easily ignore conservative trolling and ask liberals to be nice. The liberals will think I'm picking on them. If I'm even handed, ask both liberals and conservatives to stop trolling that will often feed trolls. Up till now I could stop even trolls with dynamic IP's, I just ignored them and eventually they got tired. I'll try discouraging liberals from replying to provocation by writing stuff like, "Let's show those rude conservatives we're better than they are." Overall I fear trolling may well increase if I'm forced to pay attention to it.
(...) we're more concerned with making wikis a safe and open environment for our users, so hateful language directed at another user is a considerable offense that should be warned.
I've had a look at the wiki, and the 8 pages created so far don't seem to be a big issue.
As I think Kate said before, bad language in itself isn't something we consider a Wikia issue (individual wikis may have their own policies). The exceptions to this are when it is very extreme, when it's used as an attack on another contributor, and when it's hate-speach. But in all these cases, it has to be pretty bad for us to put our foot down, and we are most likely to leave it to a local admin to draw the line.
So in the case of this wiki, what I'm seeing so far is mostly critique rather than personal attacks. "Liberapedia is a horrible piece of [blanked]", for example, can be seen as valid (if rather crudely stated) opinion on another site. The only page I would be worried about is w:c:pharyngulagula:Anuran, which looks to be the start of an attack page about a non-famous contributor (famous people are generally seen as fair targets for criticism, even if the format is impolite)
So my advice would be to ignore this wiki, unless the author really starts making personal attacks on people. Certainly I would deal with bad language by not going to the wiki! Let me know if you have other worries though
Hi Kate. I am an administrator on The Walking Dead Wiki. I noticed you posted a message on the talk page of the user BanishU about a "Fantasy Fellowship". I was going to create a blog post to inform of our community of this and their opinions on it. Would it be possible for you to provide more details for me as well as anything you would like for me to include in the blog? Also, is there a way for me to be directly informed of events like this rather than seeing it through another user's page? Thanks for your help!
Glad to hear that you'll create a blog- we'd love to have The Walking Dead Wiki participate! All the details are in the blog- once you come to a community consensus you can leave a link on the blog saying that the Walking Dead Wiki would like to participate.
If you'd like to follow Wikia news, you can follow Wikia Staff Blogs via here!
Thanks for noticing for what's going on in the Sucker Punch Wiki and replying one of my messages.
I am abused by one of the SAW admins called Chrys. She first kick banned me from the chat because she "felt like it". Then she blocked me from further editing on the Wiki for a period of a year. I didn't even do anything. I should have screenshotted the chat conversation before i was kickbanned.. But i was so angry i closed the browser, which was my mistake. Here are some screenshots i took after though.
She unbanned me after i sent that msg on her wall. Then she ban me again.
i took a few more, but i couldnt upload them somehow. =/ I think carlos is an extremely immature and irresponsible admin and should be demodded. She even made two people admins when they have 0 edits.
I hope I'm not being too personal with asking this, but I need some advice on something that I think you might be able to help with(as it kinda involved a certain blog or post you made). I'd ask my question here, but it's a matter that should stay...private, shall we say.
So...is there any way we can bring my dilemma via email(I'm sorry for being mysterious with all this, but I don't know how to talk about this privately)?
