Bug with thumb images Edit

It seems there is a major issue wrt thumb images, I don't know if it is specific to our wiki or not. A lot of them are now invisible when the size is insufficient. This affect the c:onepiece:Special:NewFiles, the images categories and some galleries (check the 4th image of this one). Thanks for your help Kdom 19:05, August 6, 2010 (UTC)

OK thanks, also I'm not sure to understand exactly how new servers make image thumbnails bug, that's not very clear from the article. But shouldn't it be wise to make a global warning on that subject like I have sometime (currently it's an add for the staff blog). I suppose I'm not the only one who was disturb by this behaviour. Help with some templates Edit

Hello there sir. I've been working on adding some of the templates featured in the Wikia Templates area, particularly the game character infoboxes, onto the Vanquish Wiki for use. I've been modding said infobox in my personal sandbox on said wiki, and the only problem I have now is rendering the font in white. I can't seem to do it. Seeing that you are the top user at the Templates Wiki, I thought you could help. Here's the link to said sandbox. WoWWiki getting any help? Edit

Hey Kirkburn, I noticed you've mostly been staying out of the whole WoWWiki/Wowpedia thing, but do you know if Wikia is planning to give any help keeping WoWWiki alive? The only real admin there now is Deadlykris and he doesn't seem too interested in maintaining it, since he doesn't play WoW anymore and his real loyalty lies with The Vault. Also, it is getting flooded with fanfic and very few Cataclysm updates.

Are you planning to get back involved with WoWWiki or is Wikia just planning to let it sort of wither away, but try to collect ad revenue until it is truly dead?

Yeah I've generally been staying out of active stuff (way too stressful ... not stopping me playing WoW of course - just resurrected my oldest character, an original warlock :) ). Anyway, we don't plan to let it die - the main issue atm is ensuring there's people to look after it, and we're looking to see what we can do there (with myself advising in a passive capacity). difficulty making createplates Edit

Hello, I'm trying to have createplates on my own wiki. I follewed instructions on the Help:CreatePlates page, and I think I did do the necessary. But my createpage isn't changed at all..! Most of it should be feasible, with the layoutbuilder, yeah. CreatePage is no longer really supported (it will likely disappear at some point in the future, no ETA yet) - whilst LayoutBuilder, which you could view as CreatePage v2, is under continued development. May I have a moment of your time? Edit

I couldn't help but notice that the Tamplets on each section (on Harry potter wiki) were designed in a very unique way. I also noticed similar styles on other wikipedia (Such as the StarWars Wiki.) uhm, http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Dark_wizard_infobox . By any chance do you know if this is unique only to certain wiki? Or is there a way to configure the biography the same on other wikis as well? Because when I tried to use it, other than it appearing as does on the other wikis the bottom half is configured as a 'Square' shape. Do you get what I am trying to say? Like so:

You want to use a rounded corner at the bottom? The harrypotter example appears to do it in a pretty crude fashion - it's just rows with progressively shorter widths. I suggest checking out the code to see how they're done it - the CSS they use is in [2] under 'rounded corners'. (Border radius via CSS is generally a better way to do it these days - though IE doesn't support it yet, and it's not as easy to do with tables.) I did much of the portals individually, but the linking them together part (the funky JS stuff) was a bit beyond me. I think you have the right idea so far ... Template:Wwp just looks like the annoying one. Excellent idea, btw!

Hello Kirkburn,

I just noticed your message on my talk page in which you, to my pleasure (thought it's incorrect as far as I am concerned) said you contacted me about the new poll system because I'm the most resent admincrat (my own term) to edit the wiki. xD Not true I believe, but that is of no importance.

I have just decided to give this new special:createpoll a try WITHOUT the use of the rich editor and I immediately noticed something odd about it. When I hit "publish" nothing happens. It's like mashing a colorful button which looks interesting in the hopes of it doing something while it serves no purpose at all. lol

I do not know if this is a temporary bug or has something to do with the fact I'm using Internet Explorer as my browser at the moment, but I still wanted to report this (probable) issue with the new poll creator.

Not much I can add to it there, on my end it looks like a bug causing the feature to malfunction. If that is the case I hope to see it fixed in the near future if possible. :)

Hey ehm... was wondering if the issue was already tackled. I just gave it another try (no rich editor once again, got no clue if that makes a difference and yes I want to try it with the rich editor but my stupid PC keeps on lagging till next week if I try that) xD.

Anywho, it seems the problem with the publish button still exists. If the technical team had already tried to fix it, please assemble the A-Team to have another look. :P If they haven't worked on it yet, you could basically ignore this message.

Looking forward to being able to use this new option. :)

New features I would like to suggest Edit

I would like to suggest some new features that me and my Admin team have come up with.

1. Wikia being able to cope with more HTML so that we can have Paypal donations boxes etc on our wiki. ( <form> cannot be used on wiki).
2. Top 10 lists avalible on all wikis.
3. Badges avalible on all wikis.

This would be best sent to Special:Contact. As for the suggestions:

1. You can put HTML in a MediaWiki page, and then transclude it with <verbatim>; eg. <verbatim>Paypal-form</verbatim> would transclude and evaluate HTML for MediaWiki:Paypal-form.
2. Top 10 lists are still in beta, as far as I know - they're also not very helpful to maintaining wikis, unless you have a fan fiction wiki or something similar.
3. Badges are widely viewed as useless or unnecessary and many admins opt to remove badges from wikis that have them. Putting badges on all wikis would only escalate this problem.

Hello Kirkburn! I noticed a that you edited a Help page on redirects. That article was useful to me, but I was wondering how to make a redirect to a wiki. For instance, my wiki name is:

http://jak-and-daxter.wikia.com/

But I noticed that another wiki redirected me from: starwarstheoldrepublic.wikia.com to swtor.wikia.com. I was wondering how to do that in case someone typed:

jack-and-dexter.wikia.com or something like that, and redirect it to my wiki.

If I know how to do this, I'll know all I need to know. I am the first and main and only admin of the first wiki listed above, and I would love some help! THANKS!

Main page not updating? Edit

Hey Kirkburn! I notice that the main page has not updated itself in several days. I have cleared my cache several times and it does not change. (Reset indent)  UPDATE: As already mentioned, when one goes to change a user’s userrights, previous userrights changes are not visible at the bottom of  Special:UserRights/<username>. I have now discovered that when one goes to protect/unprotect or change protection settings, previous protecton transactions do not appear at the bottom of the protection inteface. Popup messages Edit

Hi Kirburn,

Since your a staff of wikia could wikia please remove the annoying popup messages like this

this has happened twice and could pose a security risk of peoples accounts on wikia - please explain why I seem to be the only one receiving this popup.It also occurred on the ImperialCerberus wiki under "my preferences" but since wikia's full of ads I suspect it maybe at wikia's end since its certainly not on my end. Hi. Kirkburn is not the person to contact about issues like this. It's best to goto the community team and they will handle it appropriately.

Normally I would say popups aren't on Wikia's end and to run a malware scan but this seems to be a service that Wikia uses. I frequently notice scorecardresearch loading on pages and its some kind of statistic/tracking service that Wikia uses for analytical purposes.

I've emailed wikia via Special:Contact and provided a link to the image at http://community.wikia.com/wiki/File:Popup_message.png hopefully they'll respond - because its certainly not me since all day I ran the McAfee Internet Security Suite Virus scan and the Microsoft Malicious software removal tool, both have picked up nothing, so it must be one of wikia's ads. Hi I don't know who to go to for this but I'm going to take a wack at it and ask you.

So me and this other guy have resently have been trying to improve on the Breath of Fire wiki which hasn't been terriably active in the past few month including the admin and I'm wondering if theres a way to spice up the wiki some maybe change the colour add some other features to it? Is there a way me and the other guy can do it or does someone else have to do it?

Deprecation Edit

Hello Kirkburn! I recently browsed the HTML source of the main page and found a deprecated element that could cause problems: the <div> containing the Facebook, Twitter and Wikia icons at the bottom of the page uses the "align" property, which will not be supported in HTMl5. I'm recently trying to help someone to get his wikia up and running (http://nl.masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Nederlandse_mass_effect_Wiki --> dutch wikia) of course there are limitations of my skills of editing wikia.

My question is: Can you tell me how i can change the background? Add a screenshot or a more appealing colour. I read only moderators and wikia owners can adjust them and well this "owner" isn't active much.

Infobox Question Edit

Hi. I had a question regarding the infobox template(s) used throughout Wikia. There is a (I guess this is what you call it) default infobox template if you come into the new Wikia Editor. On the side, it has the features and media and all the stuff, and there's a template for infoboxes there. I've been using it on my newly created wiki, the Adele Wiki (you can go to one of the pages on the Wiki if you don't know what template I'm talking about). The only problem is the font in it is a light gray and it is a little too light. Is there a way to change the color to something like a black or something? Thanks ahead of time! :)

Ah, that's because it's taking the normal text colour of your wiki, and putting it in the infobox. You could perhaps tweak the colours of the infobox itself (e.g. give it a dark background), or set the text colour to be darker. As a quick fix, I've edited the template text colour to be darker - see here. Hope that helps! Btw, Special:Contact may be a better place to turn in future. What I meant was:

1) the article MEDICAL SCRUBS is a " commercial advertisement " for clothes ! Therefore, it should not appear on PUBLIC-HEALTH NEW PARADIGMS, which is meant to contain new ideas aimed at finding alternative ways to deal with public health. Indeed, the economical and societal consequences of the traditional way to deal with public health has become both inadequate and unbearably expensive for individuals and society in industrial countries.

2) when I tried to simply suppress the article MEDICAL SCRUBS, I couldn't write a "summary" of the reasons why I suppressed such a misplaced article. The only possibility was to mark the "minor change" spot. So I wrote my reasons for suppressing MEDICAL SCRUBS on the empty space left after suppressing the article itself...

Gruntz Wiki Page "take-over"Edit

Hello!

I was searching for a Wikia domain related to the 1999 puzzle game "Gruntz". Sure enough, it existed, however it has not been used since May of 2010. I was wondering if there was a way for Wikia to close the page, and allow myself to restart it. (named www.gruntz.wikia.com). I have attempted to email the original founder multiple times, however I met no luck. I'm looking forward to adding more information, and perhaps redesigning the Gruntz wiki.
