  • Hey, thanks for all the good work you do on adoptions, I know it really helps Merrystar to have people like you helping out.

Have you ever considered spreading that help over the for forums? There are also the blogs and chat you could look at too :) You have a good "voice" and Central needs good voices!

    • Hi, Sannse. I'm glad that I could be of help.

I have occasionally answered some questions on the forums, but perhaps not as much as I'd like to have.

In recent times my activity has dwindled to a halt as I'm quite busy with activities outside of Wikia. When I find some free time again I'd certainly like to continuing helping out however I can on Community Central.

    • That's great, any help is appreciated. And I certainly understand that Life thing getting in the way! But thanks again for being here when you can :)

  • Thank you for fixing the page where my name is, and I'm glad you helped make sure users don't write over other user's adoptions because I felt worried that I would lose my adoption I made.

  •     Unofficial response: (Please wait for an official response by a staff member)
Hello. I can guarantee you that your adoption request will be declined if you do not edit on the wiki. Contributing to the wiki's content by editing and creating new pages is one of the most important criteria for adoption. If you start editing now and make an edit every day then by the time Wikia staff come to review this request you should met the requirements for adoption. --LêgêndFPŠ wall

While I do appreciate your reply, I'd have preferred it if I was not told that my adoption request is "guaranteed to be declined" by a member that is not part of wikia staff. I do not believe that members of this site, members without administrative rights that is, should have the right to tell someone that their request is guaranteed to be declined; that should be left up to a staff member.

Now, onto my issue with the adoption guidelines and why I will not edit that wikia:
*Are you contributing to the wikia's content?*

         - You have edited on the wikia for at least a weak (the more the better)
         - You have created at least one new page (the more the better)
         - You are currently editing the wikia
         *Are you building the community?*
         - You make an effort to talk to other users -- you've left friendly and encouraging messages on user talk pages and responded to questions on article talk pages, forums, or blogs.
         - You keep the wikia looking well-tended and up to date -- update news sections, add new pictures and videos related to the topic, etc.

While I do know that meeting this criteria is important and would be fairly easy to accomplish, however, for a wikia that has been inactive since December 3rd of 2013, meeting these requirements makes no logical sense whatsoever.
I believe that these specific guidelines should be applied to wikias that have active members, but, they should not be applied to a wikia that has been inactive for a long period of time.

Honestly, would it not be easier for a wikia staff member to allow adoption rights to someone if the wikia in question has been inactive for a long period of time? Now, if the wikian is committed and wants the wiki enough to requeset adoption, why keep that from them (at least for a wikia that, quite literally, has been abadoned)?

    • There are plenty of things you can do to a wiki before you get admin rights. It's not about worthy-ness, it's to show you're willing to go the distance.

  • Hi LegendFPS! I saw you help out a lot with adoptions, and I just wanted to make sure I understand something properly. ^_^

If I want to adopt a wiki, and there is only one other contributor, do I still have to make a whole announcement thingy, like a forum or blog? Or can I just message the user and see what they say? I don't want Staff to fail my request if I do it wrong. D:

    Thanks!!

    • Hello there, TheCuriousQ.

So, whenever there is an active editing base on a wiki a user wants to adopt, it's crucial to reach out to them. Staff prefer blogs/forum posts (without polls!) so that all the voting is consolidated in one location. If it's just a single user however, a direct message to them will suffice. Though, a blog or forum might be better in the long run, since in case more editors join while you wait for the request to be completed, you won't have to worry about more messages, or creating an announcement.

So, it's up to you how you want to talk with the other user, and don't worry about Staff failing your request. Just meet the guidelines, and you'll be fine.

P.S. I noticed you contributed this thread through TOR. Please, for your sake, don't use it.

    • True, but as an administrator here, if I see a user needs help, and I have the ability to respond, I shall do it ASAP.

  • Thank you for your help, I kinda knew it would be a problem not having edited at all.

I'll try my best to edit as much as I can!

    Thanks! :)
