• Hey,

I submitted a site for the MMO category. Please review it on Friday :)

The wiki has 1,382 Pages but only 6k views

• Hello, how do I submit a community to a gaming footer?

Looking to add w:c:eternalcardgame to the collectible card game footer.

• Hey Raylan :) I see that you’ve added the CaptureFlag.io Wiki to FooterIoGames. I don’t mind supporting more .io Wikis, I love the genre, but this Wiki in particular had only 6 views last week, when the requirement is actually around 7,000 considering the exceptions, & that Wiki has only 18 pages of the required ~100 (considering exceptions). Given that the game has already been around for nearly two months, & the state of the Wiki itself, myself & some of my fellow Admins were concerned about why it was added / that it could potentially cheapen the quality requirements of these footers (we wouldn’t normally mind, but this is to a rather extreme degree). Could you please explain why it was added? Thanks!

      Loading editor
• Sure thing! The "new" designation gives a site a few months to get its legs underneath it in regard to building out pages and increasing viewership. I agree it's certainly at the "edge" of what would be considered new, so this will only give it a limited amount of time before the next check comes around at the end of this month.

        Loading editor
• Understood, thanks for the explanation.

Oh, one last thing. Regarding w:c:captureflagio:Thread:133, about a unified .io Wiki, would FANDOM be willing to give us such a short url like io.fandom.com? Would FANDOM want such a thing, or was this just an off-the-cuff suggestion?

Not that I necessarily think that’s a good idea, but for the sake of argument, would FANDOM be willing to help us pull something like that off? Diep.io for example, has “eaten” related .io Wikis before & constituted them within custom namespaces. We have the template, Category, & general infrastructure to potentially pull such a thing off, but it’d be very trying without help & many Wikians (including some of Diep.io’s editors probably) wouldn’t want to go for it unless there was a push for it & tangible benefits.

• It's just an off the cuff suggestion ;) I'm looking at the general health of the footer in conjunction with page counts and whatnot and was mulling it over. The communities would all be combined around a similar subject which could very well lead to more of a footprint, and therefore more views/edits. And as far as url goes, anything that's open goes.

I confess that I'm not terribly familiar with the io concept as a whole, and with the recent Curse Media merge, a lot of things are up in the air :P So maybe best to hold off on anything until the dust settles (totally my bad).

• Ah no problem, the FANDOM badge just makes it a bit difficult to distinguish personal opinion from company directive xD Thanks for clearing the air.

• Hey Raylan,

I was surprised to see that you'd blocked me on RSW, with the message "Spam/advertising-only account". That is factually incorrect, as I'm a long-standing wiki editor and contributor. I'm guessing this was in response to my posts on Resemblant and Armadyl08's talk pages, and would like to try and understand why. User:BertH has previously clarified that it's okay to alert users to the switch, while linking not to the new wiki directly, but to the official game newspost on the subject, which is what I've done. Besides the fact that the block message paints me as being nothing but a spammer, I'd like to ask why you just went straight to a block and didn't, say, reach out to me on the topic at any point. • After five years of not editing, you returned simply to promote a competing site. That's advertising. Moreover, it's lurking in order to jump on anyone who is considering editing.

And no, leaving messages on people's talk pages is no longer permitted. Please pass that along. There was a window of opportunity where it was permitted, but that window has passed. We don't intend to allow people to advertise ad infinitum.

not allowing people to message each other and link to community announcements that are on the main page

• Since you recently updated Classic WoW Wiki's background with ease, I'm wondering if you could maybe offer any advice/assistance on how to properly implement this image as a default background on Minecraft Wiki. Preferably, the background would scroll as a user scrolls down an article. It also can't interfere with our article-specific backgrounds currently being applied to certain articles through our wiki's CSS.

How possible is this to achieve, and is my prototype image properly formatted?

      Loading editor
• I'd go to our development team requests page and ask for help there.

Essentially you'd take that image and overlay it on another image of a solid color, so that your image would appear on both sides, with a gap in the middle. The gap is where the page's content would sit atop of. Then you'd merge it all together, add some blending, then add it to the site via My Tools -> Theme Designer. Just make sure "fix" is unchecked so it scrolls. Adding it through Theme Designer shouldn't (I think) interfere with page-specific backgrounds.

The reason I link to the team above is because they do this sort of thing all the time and can do it much faster than I can ;)

• Hey. I'm a bureaucrat from the Geometry Dash Wiki. I noticed that our wiki has been pulled from Platformer Games footer template after having been present on it for years. The given reason I found was simply 'low page count'. I would like to argue that this is very much an intended organisational attribute of the wiki based on the simple principle of quality over quantity, and the results speak for themselves. Every page is comprehensive, well written and with well designed layouts, feel free to check for yourself. Moreover, Geometry Dash itself is within the top ten paid games apps of the AppStore. I'd like to request that the Geometry Dash Wiki is re-added to the footer for these reasons.

A separate thing I was actually intending to raise with you a while ago but didn't get around to it until now (reason why I noticed our wiki was missing) was updating the syntax of the footer templates. I actually helped you with this a few years back, and thought perhaps I could suggest another update.

Here is the current code:

<div style="display:inline-block;margin:10px 20px;padding:15px;border:2px outset #000;border-radius:30px 0;box-shadow:2px 2px 5px #000; width:93%;">
<div style="display:inline-block;vertical-align:middle;margin-right:10px;"></div><div style="display:inline-block;vertical-align:middle;width:calc(100% - 210px);text-align:right;">
<div style="text-decoration:underline;font-size:20px;">Platformer Games</div>
<p style="font-size:13px;">Go to these sites for info or for help with your own wiki!</p>
[...list of wikis...]
<p style="font-size:13px;">Want your community included? See how!<br/>See all of our Platformer gaming wikis!</p>
<div style="margin-top:10px;">
<div style="display:inline-block;vertical-align:middle;"></div>
</div>
</div>
</div><noinclude></noinclude>

Here is the proposed update code incorporating the current flexbox standard and simplifying, with some subtle refinements:

<div style="display:flex;align-items:center;margin:20px;padding:20px;border:2px outset #000;border-radius:40px 0;box-shadow:2px 2px 5px #000;">
<div style="margin-right:10px;"></div>
<div style="flex-grow:1;text-align:right;">
<div style="text-decoration:underline;font-size:20px;">Platformer Games</div>
<p style="font-size:13px;">Go to these sites for info or for help with your own wiki!</p>
[...list of wikis...]
<p style="font-size:13px;">Want your community included? See how!<br>See all of our Platformer Gaming wikis!</p>
<div style="margin-top:10px;"></div>
</div>
</div><noinclude></noinclude>

Do consider and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

• Let me take a look next week at both things ;) I've no problem making an exception for a site if there's nothing major to add.

Always appreciate the new coding! Thank you!

• Ah, I was just thinking. It’d make sense while you’re at it to properly optimise the template structure you’ve got going on. Currently you’ve got an individual footer per gaming category. The issue with that is that if you do wish to conduct a syntax update, you’re going to have to update each footer individually. What I would recommend is that you instead create a singular design template, which accepts multiple input parameters. One will be a separate template which is a bare horizontal list of wikis, and you’d have a list per gaming category. The actual footer templates that people transclude onto their own wikis are again another set of templates, but you will never have to directly edit these after they are configured as they will only consist of a transclusion of the design template, with parameters being another transclusion of a gaming wiki, plus the relevant footer image and link to its gaming portal. I’ve created an example below (titles like these are good for indexing), although you will have to implement your own category structure here.

Template:GamingFooter

<div style="display:flex;align-items:center;margin:20px;padding:20px;border:2px outset #000;border-radius:40px 0;box-shadow:2px 2px 5px #000;">
<div style="margin-right:10px;">{}</div>
<div style="flex-grow:1;text-align:right;">
<div style="text-decoration:underline;font-size:20px;">Platformer Games</div>
<p style="font-size:13px;">Go to these sites for info or for help with your own wiki!</p>
{}
<p style="font-size:13px;">Want your community included? See how!<br>See all of our [{} Platformer Gaming wikis]!</p>
<div style="margin-top:10px;"></div>

The final output will be exactly the same as currently, but a lot more efficient on the backend. Just an idea.

• GD has been added back to the footer - I also marked it on the list in such a way so I remember not to remove it again when looking at page count ;)

For now, I think I'll stick with the individual footer code updates, since I'm going to be touching them individually anyway. Certainly doesn't hurt to put the optimized structure in my back pocket, though. Thanks very much again!

• Hello Raylan13,

I am PegasusMan, an admin on the Donkey Kong Wiki.  We have conversed in the past regarding some technical problems of mine, but lately, an issue that I believed to have settled seems to be stirring once again.  The issue involves "The Great Ape War".  As written in the "Warning" at the beginning of the page, nearly all of the page's contents are theoretical information, research, and speculation; things that do not belong on a wiki based on offical information.  However, I believe that although the page is not concrete facts, it is possibly the wiki's best chance at attracting more users to join it.  So, after much thought and multiple users sharing their opinions on whether or not the page should exist (see the comments for the full argument), I have decided to consider the possibility of deleting the page for the wiki's sake.  After all, as the comments read, the page goes against Donkey Kong Wiki's Rules & Guidelines.

I would like to get your opinion on this issue as I feel that if the page should be deleted, I may have committed my worst mistakes as an administrator of Donkey Kong Wiki.

Thank you,

PegasusMan

• Ultimately it's local administration's decision as to whether any sort of content remains on the wiki ;) If the users are in agreement that something should be deleted, and the reasons are valid, there's nothing stopping you from doing so, especially if it is against the site's policies.

That being said, there is a warning at the top of the page, and it appears that (really) only two users are recently very vocal about its inclusion. In the rules it only states that speculation and theory may be reverted or deleted, not that it certainly will.

But a strong case for keeping it would be because the wiki (and page) was recently featured on Kotaku: https://kotaku.com/the-donkey-kong-timeline-is-truly-disturbing-1823035151

Now that I have seen evidence of the benefits of the page, I have decided to let it be.  Thanks for the article!
