Hi Danny, I'm an admin on Arthur Wiki. We have a very large vandalism problem over there, 99.9% of the time it is by unregistered contributors. We have seen on some wikis (including Muppet Wiki) that unregistered contributors are locked from editing pages and were wondering about looking into doing that on Arthur Wiki. We contacted Community Central, and basically got the response that it would go against Wikia's openness and inclusion. We respect this, but were wondering how some wikis are able to do this. Figured I'd contact you, as you are an admin on Muppet Wiki. Thanks for any help you can give!
That's a really good question; I'd like to help if I can. Do you know who you talked to from Community Support? Maybe I can check in with them and help out.
OK, it was User:Semanticdrifter, done through Community Central. The message basically said that doing that would go against the inclusion and openness of Wikia, and gave us a few options of ways to help with vandalism, but mainly to be used in very extreme situations. Thanks for checking on this!
I'm sorry to bother you since I don't know you, but you seem to be the wikia staff member who was most recently online. Is this for real? I have my doubts, since the user doesn't even have a bot flag and presumably you wouldn't have to ask for permission.
Edit: That question seems to have resolved itself.
What "Year(s)" will these Episodes of Sesame Street be written and published? For some reason, they have been sitting there as red link Episodes on Muppet wiki for months, if not, "Years" and nobody has bothered to write them yet! Well, if you know, please let me know! Okay?
It's official King Lazy an admin from the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Wiki is never going to unblock me so if u could help I want to change the mistakes I made on the wiki
Is that how some people can get help from them if the administrator that blocked anyone can get help if the administrator doesn't want to unblock someone? I once responded to Ben Malloy's article here when he had been infinite blocked on the Muppet Wiki by two Muppet Wiki administrators.
I'm trying to contact the admin for "reviews.wikia.com".. and hope you can point me in the right direction.
Apparently this wiki is "closed".. but content is still showing up in the Google Search results... and we would like to get that removed if possible, but I'm not sure how to resolve this.
Hi! Sorry, I can't help with that one; I don't know the answer myself. Can you send a message through the contact form? The Community Support team will be able to help you.
You can take a look at the help page on Templates.
If that doesn't tell you what you need, then there are folks on the Admin Forum who can help you out. :)
Hi Babar! In 2008, I was working on updating some of the help pages. It wasn't HIMYM specific; I was updating the pages that were copied onto every new wiki created at the time. :) There have been a lot of updates and changes since then -- Help.wikia has all the latest information.
Oh, I see.
I know about Help wiki, it was just that became the admin of HIMYM wiki a few days ago, and I was just updating various stuff.
Thanks for the reply. :)
Earlier (Few days ago), you asked us in the runescape wiki chat, why that mediawiki page was like that, it allows the wiki and users to use their own css and js so they make the chat appear as they want it. Cheers.
Is it at all possible to see a preview of a message on someone's message wall? It can be a little frustrating when dealing with the source code on an unfamiliar wiki.
Yeah, that should be coming very soon! We're going to release an update to the Message Wall entry field in the next couple weeks that should help you out.
Thanks for the question, let me know if there are other updates you want to see!
Hi! I'm sorry -- when I answered this question before, I thought that a preview button was going to be included with the additional buttons that appear under the entry field here. (It wasn't my project, so I thought I knew all the details, but it turns out I didn't.)
For people who use the visual editor, they will see messages (more or less) the way they appear, and you can switch back and forth between visual and source -- but I know that doesn't work for templates, which appear in visual editor as a green puzzle piece.
Obviously, most messages are just text, so you don't need a preview for that -- but I'd like to understand the situations where a preview button would be useful. Can you give me a couple examples? The most helpful thing would be links to actual threads on a wiki where you're trying to use a template or something that's hard to visualize without a preview button.
When the meant by preview button, the other contributers had hoped for a preview button like the ones on the pages of different Wikis. I don't know about the other buttons that were talked about.
Danny,
Hi this is Ben Malloy250632 and I have been trying to reach you for months. I need to know something. Look, I am a very nice guy, and I have been twittering you some lately and I never did hear back. I also have noticed that your admins have kept blocking me to "Infinity" or Expiry of Block was September 2012. I have also noticed that I have been blocked since September 2011, but I can't seem to edit Muppet wiki. Could you all at the wiki please do me a favor by unblocking me? I have been blocked basically every time I keep adding usernames just about. I really want to edit Muppet wiki again, but everybody keeps telling me that I was doing "Schtick!" I only was trying to be a help to the wiki. A lot of staff like H Rytter and Oscarfan have been blocking me! I wish somebody could unblock me! It's a major issue that I can't seem to resolve. Well, please mail me back as soon as possible! Okay?
Well Ben, I have had the same problem that you had when it came to the Muppet Wiki. Only this problem was when I got Infinite Blocked by Aleal due to different issues with one of them being about not using the edit summaries before their website got upgraded. Back then, whatever I wrote was still in the Edit Summaries was still there until the cache clearing since this had to . Also, he and Jbrangwynne53 had a rule about responding on your own talk page for the first posting. I did appeal to Aleal upon the suggestion of Merrystar. He commented that he knows that I meant well for a change in Wiki behavior, but stated that I wasn't suitable for a cooperative Wiki environment. As for your problem, maybe Danny will hear you out someday.
Hey Danny, I was able to see the Message Wall additions that replaced the User talk pages on site including the Muppet Wiki that you founded. How are you enjoying the Message Wall inclusion so far?
Hi, Arthur. Actually, I'm one of the people who helped to design the Message Wall. :) I really like it; it's very helpful for keeping track of the conversations that I'm having across lots of wikis. What do you think?
I think it's good. I did appreciate the help you gave me when I helped to create some pages for the guests of "Jim Henson's Animal Show" back when I edited on the Wiki you founded. I was a fan of that show even when it aired on Animal Planet. By the way, have you heard the news about The Jim Henson Company coming out with a show called "The New Nabors?"
Hi. Just stopping by to say hi and ask a favor. I am still making a new wiki and I need help posting pages about the clone wars. Could you tell others about it and reply in my talk page?
Hi. You shouldn't be receiving notifications here if you are not following the wall. Although since you posted you are probably following it at this point :). Could you please send a report to Special:Contact with details of the notification you got? Thanks!
In all seriousness, I hope you're all enjoying the wall here. We did put a lot of work into and will continue to add features that you all need so you can manage your communities' conversations.
