That user (who added the blog) hasn't been editing since ages,yeah...but I found this blog and remembered about your project (WLB). I don't see any problem with translating the articles. And of course, if I'll translate anything, I will indicate the source.
I think that (even though technically he should've) it's not a problem that he didn't indicate a source; after all, it's just from one wikia to another. But if any future editors pass by, it's best to let them know that it's the correct way.
If you want help from other Arabic users, feel free to put a translation request at c:wlb:Translate:Requests and ask if anyone has time. I don't know how active our AR team is but you may get some response.
Regarding "using images" from eg. the English wiki: when taking over images, the correct copyright should also be indicated. There is an extension called "Shared Image Repository" (SIR) though, that allows a wiki to use another wiki's images without re-uploading them. If you ever create an international wiki, you can ask Staff to enable a SIR from the English wiki. It saves you time and reupload hassle.
It all started back when I was an anonymous user with no account. When I went to Walking with Dinosaurs Wiki, I simply created the page "Spinosaurus" from the show Primeval. But the admin of that area just changed it into "Spinosaurus (Primeval)". Even for an admin, it actually felt unreasonable to do it since Spinosaurus did not appear in any of the regular Walking with Dinosaurus series (Primeval was still made by the same producers) before Planet Dinosaur, where Spinosaurus appeared.
Even though he labeled Spinosaurus with Primeval in parentheses just because it made an appearance in the show, I tried to ask him why the other creatures that first appeared in Primeval (such as the Dodo, Kaprosuchus, etc.) weren't labeled with Primeval (though Giganotosaurus, Scutosaurus, and others were labeled with Primeval in parentheses since they had others that appeared in the regular "Walking with... series"). When I did, he didn't seem to answer. I even asked him if Spinosaurus made other appearances in Walking with Dinosaurs before Primeval, but I didn't seem to get answered either.
Even though Primeval Series 4 and Planet Dinosaur were released in the same year (2011), they were made at different times. When Planet Dinosaur came, I asked the admin the reason why the Primeval Spinosaurus is labeled "Spinosaurus (Primeval)" it's because it also appeared in Planet Dinosaur, yet he never added it just because Planet Dinosaur wasn't made by the same producers, which seemed foolish since they've already added other creatures from Impossible Pictures.
But for some reason, he added it any way without letting me know. He could've at least left "Spinosaurus (Primeval)" back to "Spinosaurus" *before* he ever heard of Planet Dinosaur or not agreeing at first about by suggestion.
It wasn't fair for what he did. I'm not intending to lie, but I feel like I know what I saw. But if he reveals what has really happened, it's going to be my fault.
Even though I was immature back then, there was no reason for the admin to do something so unfair since all should be treated equal. And now I see Spinosaurus has a heartbreaking reminder of the past. Even though it's in the past, I have absolutely no forgiveness for what has happened. To me, I think the admin thinks he's smarter than me about the Spino.
This is what I now imagine what could've happened:
Me: "Have you ever heard of Spinosaurus in other Walking with Dinosaurs specials before you heard of Primeval Series 4 or Planet Dinosaur?"
And perhaps this:
Me: "Have you ever agreed at first about my suggestion of Spinosaurus in Planet Dinosaur before you let the show be on Walking with Dinosaurs Wiki?"
And for the strangest thing in my imagination, one of the DC characters, Raven, becomes part of the heartbreaking part of the past, even though she (for a fictional character) wasn't even involved with the situation back then.
I made an account in 2014. However, creating an account was a mistake. I couldn't contain my curiosity to create an account.
On the site of Teen Titans Go!, some user who calls himself DYGOOD is so rude, he made fun of me on a thread long ago. I demanded an apology, but he ran off like an itty, bitty, little bully.
I tried to join in TMNTPedia to convince everyone that Kirby's mutant form was meant to be called Kirby Bat, not Wingnut (even though Mikey called him that). But it didn't make me happy, and I was banned for my actions (I had no idea I spammed there until someone told me).
I proceed to go to other sites, but none of it brought me joy. And what's worse I've been into: being treated like a servant, being picked on, planning to erase my account...
I tried to forget about them, but nothing made my life any better.
I think you should realize that Wikia has over 400000 communities. Even if some communities don't like you, you can always find new communities that you may feel better in :) don't let a few communities ruin your entire Wikia experience.
On the other hand, when you approach a new wiki, always try to be friendly and open for others. A positive attitude towards the users of the community will help you get accepted.
If nothing helps, it's indeed possible to have your account closed, see the above link.
Helper language? Isn't currently part of the Language Brigade Wiki? And you are in fact true about Filipinos preferring English wikis and I agree with this since I am a Filipino myself. Almost every user of each nationality does since English is our Top 1 international language.
And users preferring English is a problem Dutch language community has too. I try to promote Dutch language wikis, but still a lot of users with high English proficiency prefer English wikis.
Other communities who use languages other than English may also have the problem too. I have Filipino user friends who admit to talk better in English than their own mother language. With English being the frequently-used language, people socialize more in English wikis. Even the Philippines Wiki uses the English language. And most of the time, spotlighted wikis use the English language.
By the way, have you ever known that the Philippines has over many local languages?
Haha great xD and yeah well if not today, another time is perfectly fine too! Whenever I'm online I'm usually over there. I'm currently also multitasking by making some templates for a user who newly created a Dutch wiki.
The reason I messaged you about this here rather than on NL was mainly because of my forgetfulness of my Dutch :P
Anyway, I just wanted to ask what kind of help you need on the NL CC. I'm certainly interested in helping you with the Dutch Community, and I'll be willing to do anything to the best of my ability. So if there's anything specific, feel free to ask, and I'll try my very best to help you with it. :)
P.s. You're an awesome user with all the work you do :P
We're missing out a whole lot of Dutch Help pages mainly. For the rest I'd say user support on forums, if those weren't inactive... Before we start needing help, we first need activity on nl.c. Therefore I'm mostly improving other NL wikis so they'll hopefully become active.
If you want to practice Dutch, I think you could always try out founding your own NL wiki or seeing if there's an inactive wiki about something you like, and writing some articles there c:
Haha ^- ^ thanks! I'm just doing what I can though.
I'm actually considering adopting the Dutch version of a wikia I already administrate. I finally started doing some work on it yesterday–maintenance templates and such–and might take it on as an admin later :P
Hey, so I wondered if you happen to know the dimensions needed for an image to take up the entire background space of a wikia, assuming the image is fixed and not tiled. I've seen that the ComDev Team has done it many times with exact dimensions, and I thought you might happen to know them as well. If you don't happen to know them, that's alright. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!
It depends on the screenresolutions of the person behind the screen. For me, it's 1600x900, for you, it's this.
Of the ~50% who use desktop, most Wikia users use 1366x768, 1600x900 and 1920x1080, so with 1920x1080, you would have a resolution that doesn't make white (or other colored) edges for any users. Of course there's always people with over 2000px resolution, but I guess you can't account for everyone.
If you're really concerned, you can always put it into CSS and put background-size:cover;. That will make your image to fit to whatever screensize it's on anyway, but depending on the situation not always advised.
Oh, I thought he already mentioned why I'd asked to talk to you and that you understood now. I'd be glad to talk to you in chat though. I live in European time zone, so I'm not online late in your evening but should be a fair amount throughout the day. Let me know if you want to meet in Community Central chat or another (e.g. SFWiki). Thanks for the message :)
I would like to use the Christmas/New Year-wishes-tradition, though I'm a week late, to thank those around me who kept this wiki and daily life more fun for me during the past year. Everything just seems so normal and evident that we are here almost every day, yet it's very worthwhile to consider for a moment how wonderful it is to have people like you around me, making editing and being on chat a lot more enjoyable. I would also like to use this opportunity to wish a happy and healthy new year for you and everyone around you who is dear to you. I hope you'll have a great and healthy new year in which all your wishes may come true!
It's always better late than never, especially when it's more than just the default greeting (: a happy 2016 to you too, and hopefully you'll have an even more fun and productive year on Fallout Wiki (or the Fallout wikis if we include NL) than last year!
