Issues with signature

How are you writing the signature? With ~~~~?

I use the four tildes, but it shows as this:

You have to copy the source of your signature, and paste it into the inputbox that is found in the signature section of Special:Preferences.

So what your saying is I have to copy and paste the above into the Preferences section? Do I check or uncheck the box below it?

Yes, you have to. Also, you have to keep the box checked as well, to be able to use wikitext.
