I've seen a few posts and comments where people refer to the admins on a wiki as "staff". why is that?
Mostly it's about the funny badges shown on Help:User rights, and about using other pictures + other titles for 'crats etc. If your wiki can stick to admins/sysops/bureaucrats/... just ignore this; of course normal local admins + 'crats are not staff.
By Merriam-Webster, "Staff" is "a long stick carried in the hand for support in walking." I think some wikis use "staff "as a sort-of joke because they have the authority to use the "ban stick" and block users.
Personally, I don't like using the word "staff" on Wikia because of the confusion it can cause between paid Wikia Staff and Admins of a particular subsite who aren't paid (at least I never got a check).
