Could you give some more detail about what you're wanting to do? If you're asking whether we can help you set up a bot to work on IMDb, the answer is no, however, because that's an entirely separate company from Wikia, Inc.
No I just want your help to set up a bot on The Vampire Diaries. A bot which can fix errors like (IMDB => IMDb)
Do you have any kind of bot installed on your computer? If not, you'll need to start there first. I personally recommend pywikipediabot, but others may feel differently. Installation instructions are at mw:Manual:Pywikibot/Installation.
After you have your bot installed, you will then need to create a separate bot account. You can't use user:Alaric Saltzman to run your bot. You'll need an account with a different name, such as, perhaps, user :SaltzBot.
You then would have to go to the admin on the wiki where you want to use it and ask them to ask Wikia Staff (through a Special:Contact) to give your newly-created accont what's called a "bot flag". This will ensure that people can turn off bot edits when they're looking at Special:WikiActivity or other reports.
When you get all that done, and your new account actually has a bot flag on your wiki, lemme know and I'll help you further.
I'm not sure what to do. I mean I've read the instruction, but I don't get it. I've downloaded core.rar and unpcaked into a folder named core. What's the next step?
There is a manual for Pywikibot at mediawiki.org. It includes detailed instructions for installation. Parts of the manual are available in languages other than English.
You could also use AutoWikiBrowser (AWB) to do that pretty easily. I am good with that app if you need help just let me know. Its quite a bit easier to use than making your own bot IMO.
Ok well first you would need to download AWB. 1. Download AWB - You can do that here, then go to the link in the infobox for the website and hit download. Its a pretty small app so it shouldn't take long and you might need to enable its use on your wiki depending on how the wiki is setup. 2. Gather your list - AWB has a lot of options of pulling in the article list such as all articles, by template transclusion, by category, etc. 3. Make the change - Once its there the easiest thing would be to go to the options tab and then select normal settings. Then just put in IMDB in the find and IMDB (or whatever) in the replace. Then hit save. If there are a lot of articles affected it might be worthwhile to request a bot flag and create a separate bot account (like Alaricbot). This is a bit simplified BTW but if you can get the app running we can work on it from there.
