This is mostly a concern and a suggestion, but the wiki I go to has a rule that's contradictory. This regards to the chat in wikias.
In the Terms of Use, quote: "Post or transmit any content that is obscene, pornographic, abusive, offensive, profane, or otherwise violates any law or right of any third party, or content that contains homophobia, ethnic slurs, religious intolerance, or encourages criminal conduct;"
It's obvious that we shouldn't be allowed to use words such as the N word and the F word, but shouldn't we be allowed to censor these words so people don't use them? What this means is that chat moderators will kick people whoever says these specific words, but it's a problem once you're in a wiki chat with 25 people and half the mods aren't on chat then it's a problem that the person isn't getting kicked.
My main concern is that we shouldn't be allowed to use these specific words, but we can't also censor them. Now, the only method to censor them in chat is to use the emote triggers (like (batman), :), etc.) and that's fine as a censor alone because most people won't get kicked for offensive slang, but will get kicked for bypassing censorship.
But here's the problem: we can't censor these specific words. About a few months ago, these words were uncensored because "those words should not be allowed on wikia at all, even if masked." Well, the whole purpose of the emotes is to make sure nobody uses those words! This is the part that is contradictory, we can't use these words but we can't censor them at all! And it's a tough job already if moderators in chat receive criticism for not kicking someone and a whole hour debate starts if these words should or shouldn't be used because this rule is absolutely ridiculous.
So should we have a censorship option for wikia, or do we leave this as it is. I hope we get some sort of censorship option or a censorship alternative using emotes, so people don't get kicked for using these words inappropriately and mods can focus more on the chat behavior. Thank you for taking this suggestion and help me find an answer to my concern.
